At 51 I've finally decided to get serious about learning to play guitar. That means lots of hours of practice. I'd been using a folding chair for my practice sessions but the position was wrong making it difficult to keep the guitar in position. Then I switched to a kitchen stool which put me in a better position, but the thinly padded seat quickly became uncomfortable.

Then I saw this product and decided to bite the bullet and put some money into a proper guitar stool. This thing is great for long practices. With 2 foot rings you can find a comfortable position that will allow you to lock the guitar in a steady position The shaped padded seat is great and I never have to end a session because my tail hurts any more. I can do a 2 hour session and remain comfortable. I am 6' tall and the short model is close to perfect for me. If anything, its an inch or so too tall. Unless you are REALLY tall the short model is probably your best bet but you could always cut the legs down if needed.

All in all, a guitar stool is not something a lot of guitarists think about but face it if you are going to learn to play you're gonna be spending a lot of time on one so its worth the investment to get a good one and this is the best by far.
Rotating, sculpted padded seat, 2 foot rings choice of short or tall model (short is good for me at 5'11")
Very sturdy, high quality materials.
I think this will last longer than the "bar type" stools with music company logos you see at lots of guitar stores. Its also more comfortable since the padding doesn't crush so you can feel the frame like on the guitar logo stools.

This is a fine, well-made, comfortable stool, it's great for gigging, BUT! If you plan to sit on it while recording this IS NOT the stool you want. In time it will develop penetrating metallic squeaks which really aren't all that loud, but WHOA, your microphone will really pick them up! Of course you can retighten the screws but you won't be able to completely eliminate the problem. If you're a classical guitarist maybe you sit very still and it won't be an issue. But if you move around...

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Tower Saddle Seat Stool:

I've had two short versions of these stools for more than 5 years now and I absolutely LOVE them. I am 6' 2" tall and weigh 350lbs, I use them everyday and they are built like tanks. They have held up extremely well. In fact I'm thinking about buying a 3rd one. I've had them so long that I wore out the plastic feet inserts in the legs so I removed them and replaced them with heavy duty 1" rubber crutch tips at all four legs on both that I own and expect to get another 5+ years out of both of them. I've read some complaints about the height of these stools... the short ones I have are the perfect height for me no matter what I'm using them for. Highly recommended!

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Tower Saddle Seat Stool:

Love it for a guitar throne. After beating it up in the Virgin Islands for a few years, the legs turned a solid shade of light rust. It's great for keeping a wet sandal from slipping off, though. My old man stole it from me to use in his wood shop, so I bought another one. I'm 5'10" and the short one is perfect - it positions you well above any seated diners/patrons in the venue and lets you easily reach any pedals on the floor.

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Tower Saddle Seat Stool:

Too tall to reach pedals. Too tall to use at recording console. Optional backrest that can be purchased doesn't work with it unless you're willing to not swivel at all. Had I known about the design limitations and flaws, I probably wouldn't have bought it. I use a Tama 1st Chair for all these purposes instead.

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Tower Saddle Seat Stool:

Got the short one as a guitar stool and cannot use it as it is too tall to really easily reach my effects pedals while sitting. The stool unfortunately just sits there and I use a Tama drum throne instead.

Comments about ROC-N-SOC Tower Saddle Seat Stool:

Bought to use live for solo performances and for recording. Short version is still too tall for a 6' man to comfortable reach effect pedals. Should be about 2-3 inches or more shorter. Also, other reviews for the optional backrest you can buy say Roc N Soc doesn't recommend using the backrest you can purchase with the tower models, although there is a place to attach it! Found this out AFTER the fact, although the stool has a place to attach one. BIG NEGATIVE! A lot of money for a stool that doesn't do what it was supposed to be designed to do!
