Seymour Duncan Blackouts are 9-volt active humbuckers that provide more extended frequency response with less compression. Seymour Duncan engineers have captured the tone players want in an active guitar pickup design with the benefits of balanced inputs.
Not only do Seymour Duncan Blackouts active humbuckers have less hum than most active humbuckers, they also have more lows, more highs, and more output. Simply put, the Blackouts have more tone than most active pickups. Players will find far fewer problems with hum, especially near computer monitors and fluorescent lighting.
Blackouts are available in individual neck and bridge models, or as a two-pickup set. All versions come with all necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack, and a battery clip.

The Blackout is a great pickup. The output is too high for a TC Electronics G System (which is really the fault of TC). The pickup does not have enough cut when playing fast riffs on some amps. The EMG 81 cuts better because the EMG 81 does not put out as much bass frequencies. Blackout has way better cleans than EMG 81. The Blackout Neck pickup is amazing for cleans. The EMG 81 (bridge position) works better with a wah pedal than the Blackout Bridge. I need to try the Mick Thompson Blackout (AHB-3). I here it cuts better than the AHB-1 (regular Blackout).

This pickup came with a guitar I recently bought and it blows any EMG out of the water by far. Harmonics scream on this thing, a really clean and thick distortion sound so nothing gets muddy. Amazing for soloing. This is the best of the best kids. I highly recommend this pickup to anyone who plays metal and wants the best possible tone.

I just got this in the mail yesterday and installed it myself and this thing rocks!!! Theres alot of lows and highs and it picks up harmonics very well. And if you are worried about installing it, anyone can do it with soldering experience. I am a 16 year old kid in high school and I installed it with no trouble at all. This is a great pickup for metal and I highly recommend it!

Okay, you know how you get that muddy, rather boxy sound with EMG's? These nix all that stuff. Perfect sustain and thrash metal type tone. EMG's are gonna be for death metal and a lot of palm muting bs. These blackouts are for shredding and getting the most tone out of any riff and lick you can come up with. Get this pick up if you wanna sound legit!!

This is the best pickup you can get! This gets harmonics so well. I put this on my Ibanez rg420ex and wow? this is way better than 81/85 emgs.

Ok. Here is the complete lowdown on these pickups from being an active musician and using them for 6 months. I switched to these pickups for about six months from the EMG 81. The Blackouts are very very heavy metal, they have alot more gain than the EMGs, a lot more tone, tons of sustain, and are very heavy pickups in general. They also have a hell of a lot more output to. This being said, you will have to turn your gain down alot as well as your lows. Cons: They have absolutely no bite at all. They often muddy up very quickly and are very un clear. I went back to the EMG 81 and I am absoluelty happy that I did. I can now hear crystal clear what I am playing and I am obviously getting the screamin demon tone of the EMG 81. I play a peavey 6505 through a Marshall vintage cab with an Ibanez tube screamer. I through a boss chorus pedal into my fx loop and I suddenly had the best of both worlds of the EMG and Blackout. I was able to get the fatness of the duncan really quick and I still have that EMG bite. If you are having problems with the EMG, throw some chorus into it and you will be fine.

I haven't tried these myself, so I set all the stars in the middle. I recently had a chance to speak with Sven (Silenoz) of Dimmu Borgir. He told me that he loved the EMG 81/85 combo, but after using these he couldn't go back. To stay objective, I will also add that he said "Of course, it's all a matter of personal taste..."

I bought a brdge blackout for my kh-202 guitar, for a while I was confused on wat to get...I have emgs on my other guitar and they sounded ok...and I wanted to try the blackouts so I didn't no what to get. I finally decided to go with this and now I want to get rid of my emgs because they cant keep up with this. I can't wait to get my neck blackout to complete it!! SD for life.

I have owned these pickups for about 8 months now and are fantastic! They are in an ibanez S520 custom. They provide such aggressive distortion but at the same time clear crisp tone. I run through Line 6 Spider 3. MY harmonics are extremely easy to perform *especially pinch* you can do them all day with these. I plan on buying another pair for my ibanez rg321. These pickups are the best I have ever heard. I have tried emg 81/85 theyre..... ok nothing really spectacular. I am not hating on them but the Sd Blackouts punch you in the face compared to emg, Sd blackouts are made for Modern Metal and Rock in general NOT FOR PEOPLE STUCK IN 1950!!! If you like metal and want the best sound from your guitar slap a couple of these babies in and thrash away!!! You wont be dissapointed one you hear the first strum, you'll feel the bass and dynamic sound and your ears will melt. And when you decide to solo they scream clarity and warmth at the same time. Bottom line *MY OPINION* best active pickup out there. And affordable.
