Transform your electric guitar into a fire-breathing man-eater!

The original custom Pearly Gates pickups were wound for the famous '59 Les Paul Standard that defined the raw, rebellious sound of Texas blues rock. Essentially a variation on the Patent Applied For sound, Seymour Duncan's Pearly Gates sound sweet, but is slightly rude, with great sustain and a bright top that make harmonics jump out of the guitar.

I have an Ibanez ARZ 800, love the guitar, but I hated the pickups that were in it. EMG's 80/61 active pickups. The were good, but not very versatile. I bought the Pearly Gates for the bridge position, and bought the Sh 59 custom and wow such a huge difference! I love to play jazz, but I also love to play metal, having these two pickups allowed me to do this. The balance of tones are just perfect on this, its very bright, warm, and can even be a bit on the trebly side.

Well, I would like to start by saying that Seymour Duncan puts a lot of care and quality into their pickups. But this pickup in particular just doesn't do it for me, at least for the price. Sure, it picks up a lot of harmonics, but I don't really feel any sensitivity to playing dynamics at all. It just seems like a very one-dimesional sound(sorry, Seymour!). It just seems that the tone is focused just on getting those high harmonics and nothing else, seeming to me very tonally sterile, just a lot of fuzz and high end. Then again, that's just me. Check the stuff out for yourself, it's really the only way you'll ever know.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I purchased this particular pick-up to upgrade a '97 American standard strat SSS to HSS. This '97 strat has the "greasebucket" tone circuit from factory, 250k pots and .022 cap stock, none of which I changed. Wired to NOT split,2nd position is full humbucker and middle. Any wiring diagram you need is on the interwebs at the touch of a button. Once installed and set properly, I (and keep in mind, I'm cheap) am extremely happy with this pickup. My main guitar is a stock 2004 American standard HSS with an S1 switch, and now my '97 just may move to the front of the line, especially with the combo of humbucker and the more bell-like singles that came in the '97 SSS vs. the Tex-Mex (I think)singles in the '04 HSS. This P/U is VERY versatile, and honestly has a decent clean sound while still having attitude, pinch harmonics, warmth and sweet singing sustain (with just a little hair :) ) when spank'd and crank'd. I can best describe it by saying "take the '04,and anything good about that guitar's H/B, take it to the next level". One thing thing I wouldn't recommend it for is uber-metal and other extreme gain genres...this definitely doesn't have that voice or gain. As for the price, I think this one is worth a little more, after all, a cheeseburger is just a bit more and a bit better than a hamburger. It's a great value!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

perfect for blues or classic rock, just sounds amazing. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, it was well packaged, and in pristine condition. It had more than enough cable for any style of body. The only thing it didn't include was a new pickup mounting ring, but that is no big deal.

Put these in an older Les Paul to replace some DiMarzio PAF anniversary Pus.
Find them to be a little noisy despite shielded wiring.

I put one of these in the bridge of my vintage Les Paul. It brought the old girl to life. I will never, again, put a good pickup on a cheap guitar.

Good guitar wood, good pickup, equals monster tone. My band could not stop praising my new tone and wild riffs. This pickup improves harmonics and response. Great for Blues, Rock and, even Jazz. A stretch for Metal. Definitely not for "Worship," whatever that is supposed to be.

I put this in the neck position of my Gibson SG. My God, it turned my guitar in to a tone monster. It has such clarity for every note even when playing chords it resonates so beautifully. Sounds great when your amp starts to break up. I put a Seymour Duncan "59 in the bridge. I play through a Fender Super Sonic Twin 100 live and a Vox AC30 at home. You can not go wrong with these. I am beyond impressed.

This is the first neck pickup that I REALLY enjoy playing. It provides the perfect lead tone. Nice midrange, but not nasel. Detailed and crisp but never shrill. This is THE bride pickup. I've tried many, but this one is a keeper.

I put these in a 1994 Les Paul Studio and I must say these are the best pickups I've ever used. Playing clean they are smooth as glass! They also sound great distorted and everywhere in-between! Very versatile, and great sounding pickup.
