OVERVIEW

An amazing mini rig with digital delay and features of its bigger brothers.

The Blackstar Fly 3W combo is the new gold standard for the mini class of amplifiers. Though it's small, it's not a toy. It's an incredible low-wattage practice amp that you can use in your bedroom, put on a desk or throw in your backpack and jam wherever you want, via the battery-powered operation.

It features two channels, built-in digital delay, Blackstar's patented Infinite Shape Feature for endless control between U.K.- and U.S.-style tone. It also offers an Aux. line in for jamming along to your own music, a headphone out and an emulated line out for silent practice or recording.

And, if you want to really rock in small-scale form, you can chain the Fly combo to a Blackstar Fly 103 1x3" extension cab, and turn your rig into a 6W stereo setup that's also perfect for playback of your own music library.

I researched this thing a bit before buying, and was still pleasantly surprised. First, I have to just remind people how cheap it is. Just keep that in the back of your mind as I then expound upon how great it sounds. This is not a tiny toy amp that eeks out enough noise to be somewhat playable. It has serious tone, ESPECIALLY given its size, not just in considering its size. For metal heads, no, I don't think the built in drive channel is going to cut it for you, but, where you really trying to tear up some metal with a tiny portable amp like this?? I do think that you can get some really solid distortion when you crank up the gain; enough to please most people. The fact it has both a volume and a gain control is very nice. This way you can dial in various amounts of crunch or distortion, and still be able to choose how loud you want to be. It also means you can have a nice clean sound that you can also turn up loud, and if you choose, leave the crunch out of it. The tone is very warm for a speaker this tiny. Clearly not as much low end as a normal amp, but much more than you'd expect and definitely enough to play with and get a full tone from. I did buy the extension cab as well; it adds a very noticeable amount of low end and full sound to the thing, and makes it a bit louder. If you really want to get the best tone, I'd recommend it but if you're just worried about portability, the head only will do just fine. Delay sounds really nice as well, and being able to adjust both the level and the delay time can again get you many different sounds. I have plugged a phone into the aux in jack and the music that came through was clean and clear. Been using it a bunch for the past few weeks and the batteries (that come included with it, nice touch) are still doing fine. I wanted to buy the power chord, but honestly, I've really enjoyed just picking it up and playing wherever without thinking about plugging in somewhere and lugging around a chord. For the price, amazing.

Still love the amp but delay makes slight fus noise. These two ive had clearly have a manufacturing problem. Its a very small thing to me considering the amp is great in every other way. Just know to check yours close if you care about the delay. The thing isthey are not supposed to do what mine have done. I love it but wont ever but another blackstar product. It would be nice if it at least waited until after use befor it broke. These have a problem out of the box.

Amazing sound for the 3" speaker and only 3 watts. And the on-board DDL is very good.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

If my wife wants me to leave the room or floor, I can just unplug this li'l guy, and carry it, my guitar, and cable downstairs. Plug back in and play. No fuss. No muss.

If we're going to our cabin in the woods with solar (or nothing... bring batteries), thar she is!

      Is the sound GREAT? No.

Is the sound BAD? No. Not even close.

It's a GOOD sound (very good when you consider the size) that you can really work with and make better with your fingers. And what's really cool is that it's got a very sweet CLEAN sound. That's not so easy to find in an amp this size. The dirt is versatile and rocks like it should. Add the delay and both channels are even nicer depending on what you're doing.

Highly recommended practice amp. Fun to play, accurate, and ultra portable. I'm very happy with this amp.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

In my personal opinion its the best because it has a loud true clean and shapeable distortion you can really tweak the sound but it doesnt have a heavey metal sound on its own but i hooked my zoom pedal up to it and the true clean let me isolate the sounds i want really amazingly. Plus it isreally light. I want to drill a hole in it and put a d clip on it so i can hook it to my belt lol.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

Saw a few reviews on it and wanted to try it. SO... glad I did. I bought the optional "B" cabinet for it which makes it 6 Watt. Very versatile great clean and crunch sound with adjustable delay that is just incredible. Great for an evening at the coffee shop to create an atmosphere or out in the yard on the picnic table.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

I really like this. Small and portable. Good sound. I like it best with extension speaker. Very easy to dial in sound. I had a Fender Mustang which I found somewhat difficult to use. I think Blackstar is more known for metal. I play classic rock and blues and can dial in good sound easily . Very nice for apartment living.

The BlackStar Fly is a small amp that does not sound like a small amp....
It has room filling volume and distinct clear presence....
I have been doing this for 50 years and no other battery powered amp I have used has these qualities...
My next purchase will be to add the satellite speaker to complete the stack...

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this as a practice amp - my main rig is built on a Blackstar HT Club 50 - so that I wouldn't have to carry the head and cabinet everywhere. since then, I've brought it out to a bunch of living room sessions, and jams, and it's right sized, and holds up well in small group jams. I've also run my dirt board through it, and it takes pedals very naturally, though I recommend a bit of caution regarding the pedal out level - my Blackstar LT Metal pedal and Earthquaker Seamachine chorus sound great through it, though my Anarchy Audio fuzz doesn't play especially nicely with it - it's just too hot.
