OVERVIEW

Vintage high-gain blues tone, with classic looks to match.

Black Magick, a recreation of one of rock and roll’s holy-grail amplifiers, is an all-tube, high-gain blues machine that hearkens back to the dimensions, cosmetics and circuitry of the Supro amps from 1959, just like the one donated by Jimmy Page to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. In tribute to this legendary and extensively modified combo, Supro's engineers used the cabinet dimensions from a '59 Supro 2x10 and replaced the baffle with a 1x12, arming the 25-watt combo with a custom, British-voiced speaker specially developed for the Black Magick amp.

The preamp found in the Black Magick features two channels wired in parallel, with independent volume controls and a single, shared tone control. The vintage-correct front-end topology of the original 1959 Supro combos has been streamlined in the Black Magick, with automatic linking of channels 1 and 2 when using only the first input jack. This flexible arrangement provides double the gain when used with one instrument and also allows for two instruments to share the same Black Magick or for the use of an A/B/Y box to achieve channel-switching on the fly.

With more gain on tap than any other Supro reissue, Black Magick absolutely rips for heavy blues and classic rock guitar styles. This amp’s traditional, cathode-biased “Class-A” power section uses 6973 tubes to achieve the instantly recognizable midrange grind and phenomenal touch dynamics that define the Supro sound. A complete range of tones from warm cleans to heavy distortion can be accessed by simply adjusting the volume knob on your instrument. The signature Supro power tube tremolo adds footswitchable depth and dimension to this historic rock and roll machine.

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I am blown away. I have been playing for nearly 40 years now, and have used many different types of amps. I own a variety of modded tube amps and know great tone when I hear it. I tried out one of these Black Magick Supro's today at GC, and all I can say is 'Wow!'. I was shocked at just how great this little amp is.

Plugged in a new '57 RI Les Paul Goldtop to this and the four other Supro models that they had at the Sacramento GC today. I got to crank each one and take my time putting them through the paces. Ultimately, they ALL sounded very, VERY good, but THIS one stood out from the crowd.

Think Led Zep I and II on steroids (this model was supposedly based on 'the' original Supro that Jimmy Pages' donated to the hard Rock Cafe). The tone was full, natural, woody, and beautiful at any volume level. I ended up putting the amp at about 85% of full volume and simply using the volume on the Les Paul to control volume/intensity/tone....it was the most heavenly 25 watts I've ever heard! This thing was just creamy, buttery, beautiful tone.

Bottom Line: THIS amp is exactly what God intended a combo amp to sound like. If I were stranded on a dessert island (that somehow had power), THIS is the amp I would want with me. This amp is now at the top of my 'must have' list, I was simply blown away by how good this thing sounds. The ONLY drawback, other than it was a 'bit' pricey at GC, is that it is PCB construction and not point-to-point or turret board assembly, The Supro web site, to their credit, does address this, and insists that the type of PCB construction used here is legit and most appropriate for the amp to withstand the abuse that most all of us put them through. I do have to add as well too that Musician's Friend's price is significantly lower than what I saw it selling for today at GC, by hundreds of $$'s.

To summarize, yes it's pricey but you get what you pay for in terms of tone. I just can't say enough good about this amp, despite the price of admission.

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Great amp and all, but it came with a burnt out preamp tube. No I didn't call MF and make a big deal I just replaced it and that solved the problem. But this was an unpleasant reminder not to buy brand new expensive amps online.

After about 50 hours of use (about two weeks) this amp started making a variety of buzzing and rattling sounds at any volume. Very unpleasant.

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

While I still love my Gibson Super Goldtone Half Stack, Vox Bruno, 68 Dual Showman with 2x15 cab and 66 Bandmaster modded to a bassman and my Ashdown Fallen Angel stack, this is the best small amp I own and probably the last amp I will buy (although I still want a vintage Plexi) this amp has become my alone or jam. Easy to move and big sound. I can see why Jimmy Page used this amp to record. Ok it is a bit pricey but it is also a piece of rock history that sound dominated the 70's.This adds to my collection as much as my George Harrison Tribute guitar (now THAT was pricey)

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The simplicity of the Black Magick proves that you do not require a lot of knobs, switches, and buttons to get terrific tone. This amp and speaker delivers in every way.

I first read about The Black Magick in the September issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine (about four issues ago), which peaked my interest. Took advantage of the recent sales M/F had, coupled with their double-rewards promo (8% back-stage pass), and purchased it. Plus, Supro had the promo of shipping a free cover. I could not pass on the savings and free cover, which is top quality. Received the cover from Supro three days after sending in the form - wow - talk about prompt service.

This is not my first Supro amp. I've been using Supro's newly reissued/produced products for some time - can't say enough good things about what these amps provide in the way of tone. I own a 1624T Dual-Tone, 1650RT Royal Reverb, and S6420 Thunderbolt. These amps rock in every way. Great tone, solid construction, and superb quality. They look great too.

The Black Magic's tone is aggressive, while remaining articulate, and is pleasantly loud. Single-coil (Fender Telecaster), mini-humbuckers, regular humbuckers, and P-90s all sound great. I could not be happier with the performance of this fine amp (as well as the other three Supro amps I own).

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had the amp for a couple of weeks and love the tone. It sounds great clean and takes my overdrive/fuzz pedals really well. The tube driven tremolo sounds nice too.
You do have to crank the amp pretty loud to get a really nice bluesy tone.
But I've addressed that with a boost pedal and I have a rock crusher (attenuator) I plan to try.
Since it's modeled after a vintage amp, there is no loop. I have not played around much with modulation effects yet so I have no feedback at this time.
One other thing, I was surprised the amp did not come with a tube driven reverb for the price. But I was aware of this and will probably buy a reverb pedal at some point.

Comments about Supro 1695T Black Magick 25W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

First off, I pretty much took the Zepp guitar lesson program as kid. Naturally I am inclined to like anything Page related. That being said this amp does not disappoint. This is a very well balanced tone machine. It is a simple plug in and play design with minimal controls, the tone speaks for itself here. I got the chance to try one a couple of weeks ago and I immediately ordered one. To be honest I have not used it in band setting yet, but I know it will work well for club use. I have not ran my pedal board through it yet either because it sounds so good by itself. I really love this amp.
