OVERVIEW

Adding a second speaker to classic VOX tone.

The VOX Custom Series AC15 guitar combo amp is now available with two 12" Celestion G12M Greenback speakers. This "TWIN" enhances the full, "chimey" sound of the AC15C1; and also features the larger spring reverb tank found in the AC30C2. The Custom Series have been updated to include dual channel sound, tremolo circuitry, and footswitching capabilities. True to its past, the AC15C2 "TWIN" relies on three 12AX7 dual triode vacuum tubes in the pre-amp stage, and two EL84 pentode tubes in the power stage.

Two channels are provided on the AC15C2: Normal and Top Boost. Each channel is equipped with its own Volume control, and the Top Boost channel offers highly interactive Treble and Bass tone controls. This powerful channel pairing provides an abundance of tone-crafting control. Both channels rely on the Tone Cut and Volume controls in the Master section. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone shaping. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the AC15C2 "TWIN" can deliver the coveted clean VOX "chimey" sound or a powerful overdriven tone - and everything between.

The AC15C2 "TWIN" provides the VOX Classic Tremolo effect, with adjustable controls for both the speed and depth. A Warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. The optional VFS2 footswitch provides a hands-free method of turning the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off while performing.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp will give you all of the AC30 sound at a more reasonable level. The second speaker really makes this amp sing and it brings in a whole different ange of lower tones that a 112 just can't do. The best little feature is the AC30 reverb tank that comes with it. This is how the little brother Vox is supposed to sound. I have yet to hear a displeasing sound come out of it. It takes very well to OD pedals and really the only thing that is disapointing is that it weighs so much.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted a Vox amp in the worst way, so I finally bought an AC15C1. 15 tube watts through a 12" Greenback. How could it not sound great? Well, I tried really hard to warm up to this amp, and after countless hours of working with it, I gave up. Nothing I did made it sound like a Vox. Months later, still wanting a Vox, I decided to try this amp out. Went to the local dealer and played it. It sounded.....better. Went home, and ordered one a few days later. When it showed up I took it into my studio and began to work with it. Not long after I had the tone I had been looking for. The second speaker makes this amp much fuller, with that Vox chime, that I had hoped for. When you run it hard, it provides a nice full fat distortion. These amps are a bit tricky to set up, but I think it's time well spent. I was able to learn the full spectrum of what this amp can and cannot do while I tweaked it. If you spend time learning the amp, it will give you that chime that Vox amps are known for. I am more than pleased with my purchase. If I were making a recommendation...... I'd say save your money and buy this one as opposed to the AC15C1. The second Celestion makes a huge difference.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp just shows up my 1964 twin and my Peavy tube amps as well as messa boogie. If you Ned more power by the ac30 . The dual speaker in the cc model sounds so much better than the regular ac 15 and this amp is a bit larger than the 15, in fact this amp has the full size reverb which is very light btw but it's the Sam size as in the 30 model. Don't waste your money on the cheaper Ac 15s because the difference is humongous in sound.

The first one the reverb did not work but they shipped me a second one free of charge and the reverb is very very light but at least it works!

This beast weighs over 70 lbs so it's not for casual gigging unless you are able to manage the weight. This amp takes effects on the high boost also and quite well. I would recommend a tube driven tone bone for your overdrive and a reverb pedal since it's so lacking in that department. The tone is also me but some new mullards of even some JJ's should improve the audio and tone. The speakers work well but I'm going to switch them out with some real good Webbers! The greenbacks are not a great speaker for overdrive as most know. Clean as a Fender, almost. It's a keeper!

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The only negative I have is that it weighs more than a Fender twin. I first heard this amp while I was checking out a pedal a few months back and even though I have a large selection of amps I kept thinking about it. I finally gave in and bought one and it is killer. Am I going to sell all my other amps, of course not, there is no one perfect amp for every occasion but this amp will get quite a bit of use so I recommend trying one. And BTW if you're wondering yes I bought the pedal a few months back, and no it won't get used as much as this amp.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amplifier is as advertised and I can echo other comments. It definitely has that vox chime that everyone alludes to. I was looking for that sound and this amp delivers. I play a Gibson Les Paul, Washburn B35, and a Taylor 214ce. All sound really good through this amp. In particular the Taylor was a surprise. So in my opinion this amp serves acoustic guitars as well. I'm just a hobbyist player, but if I were a working musician I would consider getting some sort of handtruck to move this amp for long distances, if necessary, because it is heavy. No complaints.

      Service and delivery comments:

Received in a few days. Hard to believe this 75 lb. package made all the way from china and across the United States ,with only two dings in the box to my doorstep, but it did. The amp works great with all functions operating as they should. As usual, Musicians Friend delivers.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been a Fender and Orange user for most of my 20+ years of playing guitar. Typically, I prefer a pristine-clean sound, and get my OD/distortion from whichever flavor of pedal is needed for the particular task. Or, on an Orange, one clean channel and another distorted with no pedals at all.

The Vox produces great cleans. I was really surprised how amazing it sounds when compared side-by-side to my Deluxe Reverb. Certainly a different sound, but just as articulate and pleasing when dialed in properly. The dual speaker configuration makes it a great clean slate for pedals -- you hear the tone of the effect with no speaker distortion.

What shocked me about this amp, is that I find myself doing something I've never before liked - setting the amp for a somewhat dirty sound, and using a pedal to drive the tubes further when needed. I've never had luck with this configuration with any other type of amp, and I've owned quite a few. When set to edge of breakup, the amp is incredibly touch sensitive and depending on your attack, can sound completely clean or distorted.

The amp seems to respond particularly well to certain types of pickups. For example, Filtertrons absolutely sing. Humbuckers, too. I had less luck with a Strat.

I play mostly middle of the road to heavier rock, and I still can't believe how well this "vintage" amp handles various types of distortion. Much better than the Deluxe Reverb. The 15 Watts, are pretty loud. it's enough to keep up at rehearsal in a 4 piece band, but you'll want to be mic'ed up for a gig.

There are only a couple of negatives. First of all, it's very heavy. The double handles help, and I would certainly suggest carrying it with both hands. The other is the reverb. It's fine, but it doesn't come close to my Fender Deluxe Reverb or Orange Rockerverb II. The tremolo is nice sounding, but is very different from the DR.

Overall, I couldn't really be happier with this amp. Fantastic sound and amazingly versatile.

Comments about Vox Custom AC15C2 15W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Bright crisp cleans with a nice tonal warmth. There is nothing not to like about this amp. I really love the addition of the second speaker and how it effects the total overall sound. This is definitely a keeper. I was looking into Fender tube amps but the reviews were not so good. Lots of "had to return because of quality control issue" comments. I read reviews on this AC15C2 and there were no issues. I researched reviews on this and 2 other major retailers sites....all with the same results.
