Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
I have owned this bass for about a year and would highly recommend it. I bought this bass for a couple of reasons; 1) I wanted a 5 string bass and 2) I was tired of the "Neck Drop" that I constantly get with my Thunderbird. The bass sounds good and is fun to play. It took me a little while to get used to the 5th string and the headless, but it is now pretty much the only bass I play.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
I've owned my XT-25 for a few years now. I did add the extension hook available from Steinberger, to give the bass a better balance. I wasn't very happy with the way it balanced without it, but the extension solved the problem. The leg rest works really well when seated; you might not even need a strap! As for tone, I think this bass has it's own unigue sound. I actually love the stock steinberger strings that came on the bass. Generally I run the bass a little more volume from the front pickup and the tone rolled off just a little. It sounds great. I always have a blast playing this bass. The string spacing is closer than most other 5 string basses. So I have a little trouble slapping and thumping on this bass. Also, since it it a 24 fret bass, the sweet spot for thumping it is a few frets up from the end of the fingerboard, as opposed to a fender with 21 frets; you just thump right near the highest fret with those. So it isn't business as usual for thumping and poping, even though you can adapt, somewhat; and it sounds great when you get it. The thing that holds me back from really taking this bass to the gig as my main axe is it doesn't have quite the guts I need. It sounds great, but it lacks the drive I'm used to from a P bass, or my main work bass , my G&L L2500. The Steinberger is really fun in a more intimate coffee house gig, or rehearsal, or traveling, especially flying. The bass records REALLY well ! I enjoy the bass sooooo much. I like it for what it is.
THE main feature is it's headless, and compact design. Two good pickups give a decent variety of tone. Leg rest works so well you won't need a strap when seated. Rear tuning seems to take some getting used to, but once set the bass really stays in tune. Balance was not happy untill added the Steinberger extension strap hook. Problem solved. I don't like the tiny dots on the side of the fingerboard. They don't show up very well, so it is difficult to get a quick visual que at a glance.
My bass was literally flawless! Finish reminds me of a grand piano!
Great bass for the money!! Still might need a more traditional bass though.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
The lack of sound is what is so poor.
I owned one of these for a year. I tryed it on Rock, Jazz, Folk, pop, everything. It didn't sound good on anything. Mostly due to weak pickups (these cheap EMG have no deepth of tone) that need to be replaced. And the stiff like a rock neck that has no flex at all. Yea it stays in tune but it sounds like a fork on a plate. If you own a Fender P or J bass you will be disapointed with this 5 string headless. Overall the sound is poor. For the price it's a mistake when there are so many better sounding basses in this range. Just plain SAD. I sold mine after a year of frustrations.
Well built but not well designed.
Could be used as baseball bat.
Makes interesting conversation piece.
But not a good value
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
it arrived almost completely set up , just need to make a small tweek of the intonation . The action is so great , you just have to barely have to touch the strings(fretting and plucking) to get it to sing with unbelievable sustain . I wish I bought this bass fefore any of my 5 other basses . this would have been my only perchase period !
you can make it sound almost like any type of bass
Couldn't believe I could get such a great bass at such a low price
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
I'm a four strings bass player and I wanted a White XT-2 bass but unfortunately they don't make them in white so I've bought a white five strings bass. The finish is not perfect but great for the price, the bass is very comfortable and fun to play I don't have any problem with the strap button and don't need any extension on the bass. The standard strings on the bass are quiet overtoned but I've change them for some Rotosounds Swing Bass and the result is great! The passive pickups are very good but I'll probably change them in a near future for some EMG HB (neck) & HBCS (bridge) pickups + BTC System to sound more like a vintage Steinberger XL bass. I'm so satisfied with my Steinberger Spirit XT-25 White bass that I'll order a four strings XT-2 in black!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
I bought it about a two years ago and so far I'm very glad I bought it instead of an Ibanez, took me a while to decide, but in the end stunning looks of this axe made me decide after all.Now to the main part - when I got it was set up greatly, no buzz, nothing, it didn't require any input from me, so I got it out of the case and started playing right away, neck feels just fantastic, it's my first headless bass in collection, and I'm not disappointed, I just had to tune it up a little and it holds the tuning no matter what.Sound is very nice, with just a little turn of a knob it can go to a subtle Precision bass style or to a roaring power of two humbucking pickups.I have about 7 more basses in my collection, but I pick this for touring, since it's reliable, sturdy and looks good on stage, especially the white one.So if you are still in doubt - search no more, this axe is worth every cent of it's price.
Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:
I like this bass. I got it because of the size. It is perfect for the boat, I can keep it on board and practice underway. It plays great but the low string buss a little. I guess I should raise the action but it plays so nice the way it is.
