Steinberger

A great 5-string bass that has a distinctive, award-winning body-shape, along with amazing features .

The Spirit XT-25 is a 5-string bass guitar featuring the same distinctive body-shape as the award-winning Steinberger XL Series and the trademark headless neck with the patented Double-Ball tuning system. Other features include the patented double-ball Steinberger bass bridge with direct-pull, 40:1 ratio machine heads, 2 (HB - HB) Steinberger bass pickups and folding leg rest for playing comfort while sitting. I'm a four strings bass player and I wanted a White XT-2 bass but unfortunately they don't make them in white so I've bought a white five strings bass. The finish is not perfect but great for the price, the bass is very comfortable and fun to play I don't have any problem with the strap button and don't need any extension on the bass. The standard strings on the bass are quiet overtoned but I've change them for some Rotosounds Swing Bass and the result is great! The passive pickups are very good but I'll probably change them in a near future for some EMG HB (neck) & HBCS (bridge) pickups + BTC System to sound more like a vintage Steinberger XL bass. I'm so satisfied with my Steinberger Spirit XT-25 White bass that I'll order a four strings XT-2 in black!

I've owned my XT-25 for a few years now. I did add the extension hook available from Steinberger, to give the bass a better balance. I wasn't very happy with the way it balanced without it, but the extension solved the problem. The leg rest works really well when seated; you might not even need a strap! As for tone, I think this bass has it's own unigue sound. I actually love the stock steinberger strings that came on the bass. Generally I run the bass a little more volume from the front pickup and the tone rolled off just a little. It sounds great. I always have a blast playing this bass. The string spacing is closer than most other 5 string basses. So I have a little trouble slapping and thumping on this bass. Also, since it it a 24 fret bass, the sweet spot for thumping it is a few frets up from the end of the fingerboard, as opposed to a fender with 21 frets; you just thump right near the highest fret with those. So it isn't business as usual for thumping and poping, even though you can adapt, somewhat; and it sounds great when you get it. The thing that holds me back from really taking this bass to the gig as my main axe is it doesn't have quite the guts I need. It sounds great, but it lacks the drive I'm used to from a P bass, or my main work bass , my G&L L2500. The Steinberger is really fun in a more intimate coffee house gig, or rehearsal, or traveling, especially flying. The bass records REALLY well ! I enjoy the bass sooooo much. I like it for what it is.
THE main feature is it's headless, and compact design. Two good pickups give a decent variety of tone. Leg rest works so well you won't need a strap when seated. Rear tuning seems to take some getting used to, but once set the bass really stays in tune. Balance was not happy untill added the Steinberger extension strap hook. Problem solved. I don't like the tiny dots on the side of the fingerboard. They don't show up very well, so it is difficult to get a quick visual que at a glance.
My bass was literally flawless! Finish reminds me of a grand piano!
Great bass for the money!! Still might need a more traditional bass though.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I've wanted a 5-string bass guitar for some time, but most I've found have the high "C" string as the 5th string. I wanted the low "B" string which the Steinberger has. WOW! It has fabulous sounding 'bottom end' with the low "B" string and good 'punch' in all the strings.

It took me a few weeks to get use to the reaches on the fret board because of the wider width, but the fret board itself isn't so wide to cause missed fingerings, and it's not too narrow which can cause collisions between the strings during fast chops. Overall, this bass was a good buy and a keeper.

      Long live the bottom end!!!

When I got the guitar, I realized the notes past the 14th fret were out of tune. I took it into the shop and they explained to me that you need to be careful shipping from different places because guitars will warp and crack traveling through different climates. luckily he told me my guitar was still salvageable just needed the neck to be re adjusted and intonation done.

Happy with the bass, nice portable can take it anywhere with you, once you get use to the knobs you can adjust to about any sound you want. I did end up getting a hard shell case Musicians Friend did not carry them so I hard to order one from SamAsh they seemed to be the only ones who still carry them (and I would highly recommend getting one of these cases if you do any traveling at all) Very pleased with the Bass so far..

Construction is excellent and plays very well. Really surprised by the fret work. Usually don't see this quality with lower price instrument. The one down side is this instrument needs a strap hook like the Synapse model to enable the bass to hang in a better position with a strap.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

This bass arrived promptly from Musicians Friend. I was looking for a bass to pack on the plane, as I have withdrawals without one. It seemed to have a fair setup, and the fret edges are nicely done. After adjusting the neck, and the intonation, it plays great. Same bridge as my Spector's. The neck seems thick, but is easy to play. The strap buttons provide , when hanging, easy access to the upper frets. When it's strapped it feels more like the length of any of my 35" scale basses, because of where it hangs. I was put off by the reviews of this bass, but it's great for travel or heading to practice. For Four bills, it plays way better than most of the MIM Fenders, or some the other overpriced firewood that's out there. The pickups are lacking sand in the bag, so I'll upgrade later. It stills sounds fair through my Mark Bass or my Phil Jones amps (although much less aggressive). Also, the gig bag is fairly flimsy. For the price, a great bass. I like it. Enjoy!

I have owned this bass for about a year and would highly recommend it. I bought this bass for a couple of reasons; 1) I wanted a 5 string bass and 2) I was tired of the "Neck Drop" that I constantly get with my Thunderbird. The bass sounds good and is fun to play. It took me a little while to get used to the 5th string and the headless, but it is now pretty much the only bass I play.
