I'm a four strings bass player and I wanted a White XT-2 bass but unfortunately they don't make them in white so I've bought a white five strings bass. The finish is not perfect but great for the price, the bass is very comfortable and fun to play I don't have any problem with the strap button and don't need any extension on the bass. The standard strings on the bass are quiet overtoned but I've change them for some Rotosounds Swing Bass and the result is great! The passive pickups are very good but I'll probably change them in a near future for some EMG HB (neck) & HBCS (bridge) pickups + BTC System to sound more like a vintage Steinberger XL bass. I'm so satisfied with my Steinberger Spirit XT-25 White bass that I'll order a four strings XT-2 in black!

I've owned my XT-25 for a few years now. I did add the extension hook available from Steinberger, to give the bass a better balance. I wasn't very happy with the way it balanced without it, but the extension solved the problem. The leg rest works really well when seated; you might not even need a strap! As for tone, I think this bass has it's own unigue sound. I actually love the stock steinberger strings that came on the bass. Generally I run the bass a little more volume from the front pickup and the tone rolled off just a little. It sounds great. I always have a blast playing this bass. The string spacing is closer than most other 5 string basses. So I have a little trouble slapping and thumping on this bass. Also, since it it a 24 fret bass, the sweet spot for thumping it is a few frets up from the end of the fingerboard, as opposed to a fender with 21 frets; you just thump right near the highest fret with those. So it isn't business as usual for thumping and poping, even though you can adapt, somewhat; and it sounds great when you get it. The thing that holds me back from really taking this bass to the gig as my main axe is it doesn't have quite the guts I need. It sounds great, but it lacks the drive I'm used to from a P bass, or my main work bass , my G&L L2500. The Steinberger is really fun in a more intimate coffee house gig, or rehearsal, or traveling, especially flying. The bass records REALLY well ! I enjoy the bass sooooo much. I like it for what it is.
THE main feature is it's headless, and compact design. Two good pickups give a decent variety of tone. Leg rest works so well you won't need a strap when seated. Rear tuning seems to take some getting used to, but once set the bass really stays in tune. Balance was not happy untill added the Steinberger extension strap hook. Problem solved. I don't like the tiny dots on the side of the fingerboard. They don't show up very well, so it is difficult to get a quick visual que at a glance.
My bass was literally flawless! Finish reminds me of a grand piano!
Great bass for the money!! Still might need a more traditional bass though.

Best 5 string bass I've ever picked up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

it arrived almost completely set up , just need to make a small tweek of the intonation . The action is so great , you just have to barely have to touch the strings(fretting and plucking) to get it to sing with unbelievable sustain . I wish I bought this bass fefore any of my 5 other basses . this would have been my only perchase period !
you can make it sound almost like any type of bass
Couldn't believe I could get such a great bass at such a low price

I like this bass. I got it because of the size. It is perfect for the boat, I can keep it on board and practice underway. It plays great but the low string buss a little. I guess I should raise the action but it plays so nice the way it is.

Good choice for it's price

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I bought it about a two years ago and so far I'm very glad I bought it instead of an Ibanez, took me a while to decide, but in the end stunning looks of this axe made me decide after all.Now to the main part - when I got it was set up greatly, no buzz, nothing, it didn't require any input from me, so I got it out of the case and started playing right away, neck feels just fantastic, it's my first headless bass in collection, and I'm not disappointed, I just had to tune it up a little and it holds the tuning no matter what.Sound is very nice, with just a little turn of a knob it can go to a subtle Precision bass style or to a roaring power of two humbucking pickups.I have about 7 more basses in my collection, but I pick this for touring, since it's reliable, sturdy and looks good on stage, especially the white one.So if you are still in doubt - search no more, this axe is worth every cent of it's price.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I've wanted a 5-string bass guitar for some time, but most I've found have the high "C" string as the 5th string. I wanted the low "B" string which the Steinberger has. WOW! It has fabulous sounding 'bottom end' with the low "B" string and good 'punch' in all the strings.

It took me a few weeks to get use to the reaches on the fret board because of the wider width, but the fret board itself isn't so wide to cause missed fingerings, and it's not too narrow which can cause collisions between the strings during fast chops. Overall, this bass was a good buy and a keeper.

    Long live the bottom end!!!

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

The lack of sound is what is so poor.
I owned one of these for a year. I tryed it on Rock, Jazz, Folk, pop, everything. It didn't sound good on anything. Mostly due to weak pickups (these cheap EMG have no deepth of tone) that need to be replaced. And the stiff like a rock neck that has no flex at all. Yea it stays in tune but it sounds like a fork on a plate. If you own a Fender P or J bass you will be disapointed with this 5 string headless. Overall the sound is poor. For the price it's a mistake when there are so many better sounding basses in this range. Just plain SAD. I sold mine after a year of frustrations.
Well built but not well designed.
Could be used as baseball bat.
    Makes interesting conversation piece.
    But not a good value

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I was curious about Steinberger electrics so I bought this one because I have a NS eu special white edition and thought this model in white would compliment the look, I know...kinda shallow. The bass came setup ready to play. The pickups are passive but I love the uncolored tone. I think it's a great classic rock bass.I don't like the strap holder location in front so I added one to the top shoulder to get a more level view of the fingerboard. Tuning is great, accessible and stable. I find the 'C'neck a little fat but not too difficult. It took some adjusting from my Dingwall Afterburner "D" style neck. The 12th fret octave position is farther out than most basses so your arm will be extended out farther. I would think the optional arm like on a Synapse would change this. I had a bit of fret buzz in the middle neck area and had to back off the neck tension a bit. It's not the best bass for 'slap n pluckers' but workable. I've played a few gigs with it and overall it's worth keeping. I like the sound and will continue to gig with it.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

This bass arrived promptly from Musicians Friend. I was looking for a bass to pack on the plane, as I have withdrawals without one. It seemed to have a fair setup, and the fret edges are nicely done. After adjusting the neck, and the intonation, it plays great. Same bridge as my Spector's. The neck seems thick, but is easy to play. The strap buttons provide , when hanging, easy access to the upper frets. When it's strapped it feels more like the length of any of my 35" scale basses, because of where it hangs. I was put off by the reviews of this bass, but it's great for travel or heading to practice. For Four bills, it plays way better than most of the MIM Fenders, or some the other overpriced firewood that's out there. The pickups are lacking sand in the bag, so I'll upgrade later. It stills sounds fair through my Mark Bass or my Phil Jones amps (although much less aggressive). Also, the gig bag is fairly flimsy. For the price, a great bass. I like it. Enjoy!

I have owned this bass for about a year and would highly recommend it. I bought this bass for a couple of reasons; 1) I wanted a 5 string bass and 2) I was tired of the "Neck Drop" that I constantly get with my Thunderbird. The bass sounds good and is fun to play. It took me a little while to get used to the 5th string and the headless, but it is now pretty much the only bass I play.

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I've been a Steinberger guy since the 80's. I've owned an original L-series (#958), an XL2-T - Transtrem bass, an XL...and one white Spirit before this one. As much as I love the original graphite 'bergers, they're heavy and have a very unique tone that doesn't fit into every style all that well. The Spirit's, with the three piece neck, running the length of the strings, along with the rosewood board, have a slightly mellower and more useful tone. I can play this bass in the swing, blues, jazz band that I perform with, and get a good number of useful tones from the bone-simple electronics.
I think the pup's could be improved...not much power there but, the tone is nice, Shielding the control cavity with some copper foil tape is a must, other wise the bass will buzz in some venues. Dimmers and beer coolers in your average bar will be noticeable. Overall? Great bang for the buck and a delight to play. I'll pick this up before my boutique 6er's on a regular basis!

I took it into the shop and they explained to me that you need to be careful shipping from different places because guitars will warp and crack traveling through different climates. luckily he told me my guitar was still salvageable just needed the neck to be re adjusted and intonation done.

Happy with the bass, nice portable can take it anywhere with you, once you get use to the knobs you can adjust to about any sound you want. I did end up getting a hard shell case Musicians Friend did not carry them so I hard to order one from SamAsh they seemed to be the only ones who still carry them (and I would highly recommend getting one of these cases if you do any traveling at all) Very pleased with the Bass so far..

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

I travel a good bit and purchased this bass to take with me when I need to learn new music or need to run tunes while I am away. I did not expect it would be such fun to play. I can't keep my hands off of it. The tone is pretty mild if you are going straight into your amp, but with a little tone shaping it sounds really solid. It does take a little getting used to, but a couple of hours is really all you need to get the hang of it. My only complaint is the string spacing is a little tight for my taste. I need to adjust my playing style so my hand doesn't start to cramp after playing it a while.

Very nice bass, easy to play, comfortable to play.
Maple neckthrough, passive EMGs, 2V 1T knobs
Very versatile tone-wise, just using the two volume knobs.
I use a wide leather strap and Grover screw top strap buttons to secure the strap.
I would suggest snagging a string adapter so you can use normal bass strings.
All of my basses now have NYXL strings. The XT-25 sounds great with them..
I played it through multiple amps ranging from TCE's to Eden Nemesis... Love it.
Very good bang for the buck....

Comments about Steinberger Spirit XT-25 5-String Standard Bass:

Construction is excellent and plays very well. Really surprised by the fret work. Usually don't see this quality with lower price instrument. The one down side is this instrument needs a strap hook like the Synapse model to enable the bass to hang in a better position with a strap.
