      Comments about Meinl Aluminum Doumbek:

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The light weight of the drum, the comfortable vinyl exterior, and the really nice sound make it a pleasure to play every time I pick it up. Since it is so light, it can be brought just about anywhere easily, whether to a drum circle as a second or third drum or to a park or beach. I have another meinyl drum, a copper one, and this one is lighter, more comfortable, and better sounding than the other, although the other drum is really, also, a word of art
I would recommend this drum to all levels of players. I know of at least 4 or 5 people who own this drum and are happy with it. Drum on, drummers!

Aluminum Doumbek - GREAT TRAVELING DRUM

      By thetacosface

      Comments about Meinl Aluminum Doumbek:

Sounds great right out of the box. Nice addition for any percussionist of any skill level. Was expecting the vinyl cover to be a hard plastic vinyl but is closer to a leather material which gives the drum a nice texture/grip.

      Great traveling drum!
Was hoping the travel bag had a shoulder strap (rather than a small strap handle) but no complaints about the drum itself.
      Two thumbs up!
      Great value considering the QUALITY!

      Professional Level

      By Omar Limas

      Comments about Meinl Aluminum Doumbek:

It's excellent. I started using a Darbouka to learn...if you can afford this one to start you won't feel any sort of transition when buying another one. You won't need to get another one but you might because there are other drums beautiful embellished....but when it comes to technical and sound aspects, this one is the one.
It's amazing, the body has a perfect grip that allows you to do crazy things while playing like modifiying the lows of the Doums and do crazy rolls as it will grip on your pant. It has a nice feel and you won't harm your hands if you play too hard thanks to the vinnyl covering. It's a great plus to it as it doesn't really mess with the sound and let's you get used to the Kas and Taks faster than with any other drum.
They are really durable, mine has gone through some hard managing and has survived well. it's sound its amazingly sharp and if you tune it right you get a great range of lows and sharps. Beautiful rolls and bounce. Don't let anyone to tell you it lacks of anything, they don't know how to tune it! This is a great professional Doumbek in my own experience. People get it to record with it but I do perform with it and it's the right tool.
It's nice metal and vinyl plus a very durable skin (mine just gave up after maybe 4 years? 3 years? of playing and performing with it). Really nice job.
you can always ask for a discount, but really you won't need it... comes with a bag and other derbakes are not as well constructed as this one. This definetely competes with middle eastern constructed drums and it's not loosing fast.

      My new hand drum

      By SoundPost

      Comments about Meinl Aluminum Doumbek:

I've been using various percussion instruments in my project studio for a number of years, and have always loved the variety of sounds you can get with both darbuka and doumbek. What I like about his drum is the tonal range. It's capable of crisp high frequencies but has plenty of bottom. The covering probably adds a bit of darkness that I like. Head response isn't quite as controllable as on my darbuka - but hey - this is a doumbek! I love it!
