Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I picked up a 2002 in 24" size. I couldn't be happier with this cymbal. Band mates even gave me compliments on the sound, which I'd describe as a clear, cutting ping (I use wood tip), almost glassy, with a mellow undertone of a rich, warm, complex wash. The bell cuts beautifully when struck with the shoulder of the stick, without being too loud (a problem with many other rides). The ride is too large really to crash much, but I occasionally hit the edge for a luxurious gong-ish wash. The cool thing is, that wash persists even while you're keeping time on the surface, but it's controlled. One concern I had was this ride would be too loud, given its size. But its size actually works to control and buffer the volume, and this cymbal is perfectly at home in moderate-volume rock settings. Not as complex a tone as a true jazz ride, and not as dynamic, but it's a workhorse that can be used throughout styles and has just enough sizzle for jazz-ish funk or rock. Interestingly, the ride produces exactly the same ping no matter where on the surfce you hit it - that consistency, while it forfeits a bit of complexity, makes this ride easy to play. Make sure to budget for a 24" cymbal case or bag - you'll want to protect this fine instrument.

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal takes alot of thought to describe. This is not really the sort of ride I would seek out or choose as my main baby. I already own a 2002 22" Power Ride, but got a good deal on this 20" Ride, and was wanting another Paiste, but not as big and bold, and a little more sporty in size. There is a brightness to this cymbal that can almost be described as a sizzle, which could easily be off-putting, but once you learn how to work it, it becomes an appealing characteristic. The bell can be extremely sharp unless you hit the sweet spot, but the sweet spot is quite sweet. The ping is less pronounced and more washy than the Power Ride, making it a candidate for some jazz playing, I think. I believe the crash sound is terrific, and a really strong feature of the cymbal. It's a light, airy, and shimmery crash sound, that you can get by hitting different parts of the cymbal with the shoulder of the stick while riding. I think it sounds best with lighter wood-tipped sticked such as Vic Firth HD4. I generally prefer a ride with a stronger stick attack, but the overall features of this cymbal make it fun to play, with lots of character. I first tried this in a store, and was not expecting to like it, but the more I played it, the more I really began to understand its appeal. If you like a brighter, somewhat washy ride sound, with a good bell and shimmery crash, go for this one.

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

When I got the 22" a little over a year ago, I was impressed with the sound; and still are today. It's loud enough to play live shows, but still has nice volume for the studio. Also, you are able to play any part of the cymbal hard without producing the overtones like other rides, so good for blasting. Although expensive, it's sick, so it's worth it.

    Good rock cymbal

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

Great bell. Looks great except for the huge size of the 24". I realize others may love that. Has the feel of a sheet cymbal, pretty thick and heavy in appearance, feel and sound. Great rock cymbal but that's about all. It's called medium-heavy and that describes it's sound pretty well. It has a near-ping ride sound with lots of overtones and moderate sustain. The biggest downside for me is a l-o-u-d, low-pitched undertone that almost overcomes the rest of the sound of the cymbal (from the drummer's throne at least, don't know about audience or recording). I got a great deal on mine new. Absolutely not worth the regular price IMHO.
The bell on the 24" is the best I've ever heard or hit ... and I've had a bunch of mostly Zildjian rides in 46 years of playing. Looks good. Too big to be practical. The rest is pretty average.
Looked perfect upon arrival unlike many high-end Zildjians that are flawed from the factory. The two 2002 crashes I got also arrived in perfect condition.
Way too expensive for what you get. It's got the feel and sound (other than the great bell) of a really good, cheap sheet cymbal.

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I recently refurbished my black TAMA Swingstar (circa 1990?) that had been sitting in my basement and was looking for the perfect ride. I own a 21" Zildjian ride but it had too much ring. I took a chance on the most expensive and ordered the 24" PAISTE hoping for perfection with the larger size. I received it, in great condition once again. I LOVE THIS CYMBAL; great ping, great crown, looks different from the picture, more dimply and nice shine. It has that tight sound you want right after your strike it. This is a ride cymbal with presence!!!!

The only ride cymbal for rock and jazz

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

This is the one. If you are looking for that classic rock ride sound reminiscent of your favorite drummers like John Bonham, Alex Van Halen, Bill Bruford and Stewart Copeland (to name a few) then use the cymbals they used. The Paiste 2002. This ride cymbal is perfect for classic rock, R&B, Jazz. Very versatile, never too heavy, but always cuts through the music with that sweet Paiste tone. Made in Switzerland and worth every penny!

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal a little over a year ago, and its uncomparable to any Zildgian or Sabian cymbal out there. The bounce, tone, bell tone, and overall sound and appearence of the cymbal is outstanding. I have switched my entire kit over to Paistes because of this one cymbal. WELL WORTH THE MONEY!

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I bought this ride nearly a year ago and it's fantastic. My only complaint would be that the bell isn't as big as I would like, but it definitely does not lack for sound. I am a heavy rock player, and this ride is a versatle as I need it to be- nice ping in the shoulder, insane roar at the edge, and the bell, while not that pronounced, cuts very nicely. I beat the snot out of this sucker, too, and it hasn't let me down.

    Blown totally away

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

Totally love this line of cymbals, beautfiul to look at, pleasure to play everyday, and just sound sweet.
I'm in love with this ride after owning it for almost an entire year now. Started off with building my set up with 2002 hi-hats, then got a 24in 2002 ride and my god it makes me happy. The ping, bell, the glossy but musical and tonal sounds it makes just blow me away still. At first I was a bit hesitant on my choice of the 24in because it gets LOUD if you really start going at it. But honestly, I've learned to totally just go with it and have gotten some truly unique, though loud recordings from just wailing on it while playing. Sounds killer for all types of music really, if you're going for a super "organic" sounding cymbal I wouldn't recommend this though, it's very bright, in your face, and loud.
Only owned it for a year, but not a sign of cracking, denting, or even stick marks and I play every day for a few hours hard.
Bought mine on eBay for a much better price than MF, but that was a lucky deal. Cymbals these days are outrageous IMO for the price but if you want it and it's the sound you're going for, there's no alternative.

I bought 7 ride cymbals this month trying to find something better and I cant. The 22" is the only Ride I've bought twice. After 20 years, it started to have a bit of green tarnish so I gave it to my grandaughter and bought a new one. The 24 is louder for sure. I like the 22" better than the 20" . You can pay more but you wont get more.

Well i just bought this cymbal... my first reaction was the suprise that it sounded kinda like the sabian b8 pro ride cymbal. I dont like the b8 pro very well, so i was dissapointed. I started using it more, and then started liking it, it really seems different from the B8 Pro the more a play it. This ride defenently ishigh pitched, has a pingy bell, and is pretty good as a crash too. Paiste never dissapoints...

I have owned 3, 2002 red label ride cymbals. As a hobbyist, I found the 24" to be too loud for around the house. For larger gigs it may be the perfect ride. The 20" heavy ride is a bit drier than the 22" but both sound excellent. I prefer the 22" but both are good.

Still Sounds Great After 25 years

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I bought this specific Ride when it was new on the market back in 1985. It sill looks exactly the same. This has the best overall sound in a Ride Cymbal you can ask for. Very versatile, I play Jazz, Rock, Fusion, Country and this thing works for all these styles no problem. Has a pingy sound to it especially with plastic regal tipped sticks, the bell is very loud too, you can accent off beats for funky stuff great with this thing. I traded in my 22" Zildjian ride because it just rang forever. The sustain on this cymbal is average, not too long or too short either, just right for me. It has stood up to time, I have owned the same one for over 25 years now, still sounds awesome. I highly recommend this cymbal for anyone looking to get versatility from their Ride cymbal, this has a great sound range and capabilities. 5 Stars all the way around!

The inspiring ride sound of Led Zeppelin.

Comments about Paiste 2002 Ride Cymbal:

I remember a few years ago when I picked up my first Led Zeppelin album. I know it may sound like I do not know what the hell I'm talking about because I only own one album from Led Zeppelin. How the West was Won was my fortunate CD choice. I put it into my CD player and what do I hear, Bonzo playing his ride like nobody's business. I immediately fell in love with the live sound and projection of his 24 inch behemoth of a ride cymbal. I do not own this cymbal unfortunately but if you want guys like me in awe of your ride cymbal get this baby. People will be talking about it.

I can't say enough about Paiste 2002 Cymbals. I have all around my kit Paiste Diminsion-Signature and some Innovations and some RUDE. I am leaning towards the 2002's though!! I currently am using a 2002 22" Power ride. It is awesome with no complaints from everything like it's large bell to it's soft tones with my Promark Hickory. But I did order this 24" 2002 Ride after test driving one at my Local Drum shop. Man what beautiful Cymbals Paistes in 2002 series! I am also currently using 15" Sound Edge Signature Hihats. Maybe soon I will also try the 2002 15" Hihats. I am very pleased with the current hihats though. I have them in 13",14" and 15". But this 2002 24" Ride is just perfect!
