I don’t know how the Big tunable Djembe’s sound but you get a lot of bang for your buck with the Remo Advent Djembe.  I have a huge roped tuned Djembe, made with solid wood, that I have put aside in favor of the Advent.  The Doon’s and Goon’s are deep with only a slight ringing noise, the tones are solid and the slaps are high.  As a starter or advanced Djembe one can’t go wrong with this little number, it sounds great (my handes are very sore from playing too much, yet I can’t put it down) and for the price is a steal.

A all around great drum

Features:

I recently updated to the Remo Advent after the goatskin head on my previous Djambe began to have serious sound inconsistencies effected by the weather which no amount of rope tightening seemed to fix. With this drum that issue is solved and I get a snappy rim/edge sound along with an unbelievable low bass. I tried this drum out at an acoustic gig the other night and it sounded wondeful. Full bodied yet very responsive at quieter volume levels, plus it sounded great with brushes which is something I like to use for certain tunes.Plus, like the previous reviewer stated, this drum could be tuned high to get a Dumbek tone, or tuned lower for a deeper Djembe sound. Either way it works just fine.

At this price one is getting a great little drum that's impervious to  the weather, is light to carry, and has a lot of guts for it's size.  This drum is probably not for Djembe purists who insist on real skin and  wood, but those drummers, several whom I count as my friends, are not  likely to warm up to the idea of an artificial drum anyway. As for me,  I'm a semi-professional drummer/percussionist who needs to have a  comsistent sound for my gear and Remo certainly understands consistency

All in all, I would recommend this drum, especially for the price.

You Need One of These, Maybe Even TWO!

I was going to wait a month or so before writing, but after six days, I am convinced that this has to be the best value in djembes. I got it to have as a "companion" to my 16" Remo djembe. I have it tuned so it sounds like a doumbek, but it sounds great when tuned lower, too. It sounds great either way. I played it in church where I keep my big drum. Its complemented the sound of my other drum beautifully. I took it to an open mic/jam session where it acquitted itself well. I can't imagine how one... could damage this drum. At its pricepoint, you could have two of these; one tuned high and one low. GET ONE! NOW
