OVERVIEW

Unparalleled sound quality and playing comfort.

This Apex Djembe is lightweight and features an elegant plated-steel-radius counterhoop that feels great from the first beat. The specially engineered tuning brackets boast inverted, recessed tuning hooks that allow you to tune the drum with ease. The Apex Djembe will perform to your highest expectations for all levels of drumming.

Its synthetic Skyndeep Black Goat Stripe graphic drumhead screams volumes for any drumming activity, and will stay in tune in all weather. The Skyndeep drumhead features a small removable Sound Control foam dot under the drumhead. This feature produces less overtones for a more focused and dryer, animal-like bass tone and rich slap tones. Comments about Remo Apex Djembe:

I bought this djembe partly because I live in the hills of WV where the weather and humidity go through drastic changes. I have a lot of guitars and other drums that need a lot of adjusting to compensate for this. Since this djembe is all man made materials (no wood or skin) it is very stable and the tone does not change with the weather.
It has a huge sound and all the versatility a djembe should have. It does not have some of the woody resonance of a wood and skin drum but it makes up for it in clarity. It can get LOUD! It is very well built and sturdy so it should be quite durable.
I have already used it in some recording with a kick drum mic under it and an SDC across the top and it sounds fine and clear.
This thing is low maintenance and great fun!

        Comments about Remo Apex Djembe:

The REMO Apex Djembe is a truly excellent instrument, especially for the price. No, it doesn't have a goatskin head, or a rope tuning system - but those are only problems if you're a djembe snob. For the rest of us, the Apex is rugged, highly weather-resistant, portable, and easy to tune. It has only a 12" head, so you're not going to get the booming bass you'd get with a 24" wooden djembe, but, especially if you mic it, that shouldn't be a show-stopper for most players. The key-tuning system is easy to use, but it, and the chrome hardware in general, make it uncomfortable to clutch between your knees. I've found that just resting the bottom edge on the floor/stage/ground and tilting the body back to rest in my lap works pretty well, and it still sounds like a 12" djembe. For outdoor drum circles, this thing is exactly what the doctor ordered ...

          Comments about Remo Apex Djembe:

I'm prefacing this with, "I'm not a drummer." But I'm having great fun with this drum. It came tuned pretty tight and I couldn't get a good low sound but after tuning it down it has a pleasant bottom end and a big variety of sounds. I've played djembes with real skin heads and this synthetic head doesn't sound AS good but it does sound good and it's easy to tune. For the price, this is an excellent hand drum. And it looks great!

            Comments about Remo Apex Djembe:

Sax and guitar player here. I've been going to drum jams of late. The remo is lovely and well built. It plays almost like a doumbek or my darbuka- very crisp side tone. It held up well with other drums, though got some side-eye from the wood and goat-skin players. Does an all plastic drum have a soul? I'm still trying to figure that out. But it won't get ruined in the rain and this a big plus.
