This is a great addition to any drum set but have a some thing in mind:
1. these are not toms. You have to be creative to be able to blend them into your style of music if you play rock or similars.
2. They are not loud. Mic them if you can.
3. I keep them on the stand and carry them like that. Yes, they are bulky, but if you fit them in a duffel bag (with long handles) upside down they are easy to carry.
4. I put Remo CS dot heads on them as they were the original heads used when these came out. I believe a single ply head matches the nature of the instrument with a more focused and live sound. I find pinstripes a little dull and mostly suited for beginners that don't know how to tune yet.(I've been there)
5. They can be hard to set in small venues but I re-arranged my cymbal set up and replaced a couple of stands with clamps and arms and now I have a decent space for the rotos. If the hi-hat rod is on the way, cut it. You don't need 20" of rod above your hats. I left only a few inches to use a trick-hat, that's all you need.
These will not only expand your kit but they will also force you to think outside the box. Great instrument!

Mounting bracket AD10 poorly constructed where it was not machined properly, and therefore, we could not get a tight snug fit to hold the Roto Trac onto the stand. Any hit on the drum caused the bracket to loosen and shift.

Also too bad replacement parts are not available as I have to disassemble the whole piece to replace a 3 inch by 3.5 inch metal bracket plate!

Comments about Remo Rototoms 6", 8" and 10":

I was quite disappointed for the second time ordering this item. I thought, and gave the benefit of the doubt, to the company; I originally believed that I had a mis-machined plate that caused our difficulty in attaching the drum rack to the hardware stand. I had to send back the whole kit, when I really only needed a 3 inch by 4 inch by 1/4 inch plate sent to me. Anyway, kit re-packaged and sent back. (The return label sticker did not allow for home pick up, and I had to be further inconvenienced and bring package to a UPS facility). I received the replacement Remo Roto Drums and stand - and ended up with the exact same piece of poor workmanship in regards to attaching the actual toms to the hardware.

Comments about Remo Rototoms 6", 8" and 10":

I really like the sound and quality of these toms, they are fun to play. I like to use them in solos best. I do believe they are right in the pocket for Latin songs. The reason I would not recommend them some drummers just do not need them and many rock, blues and other band leaders might just tell you to take them home. I mostly wanted them for fun, however they are much more then a toy.

Comments about Remo Rototoms 6", 8" and 10":

Don't buy these if you think they are the thing. They are neat, sound great, and are absolutely of no use if you can't think outside of the box when playing drums.

I play them for a couple of years and then put them away, rinse and repeat. After 20 years of having a set, they are set up right now in my studio and I still find myself enjoying them.

There's nothing magical about them, and there's something magical about them at the same time. It depends on your mindset when you're playing.

Since I can't truly answer the next question with their yes/no I'll say that I'd tell anyone about them. But I wouldn't call it a recommendation. I'd rather invite them over to hear them and decide for themselves.

Proper tuning is the key, but discretion is the better part of valor in playing your kit. As for tuning, the 8" should be between your high tom and your low tom, and the 10" between your low tom and your floor tom, but that's just my perception.

I have been behind the drums now for over 38 years, and I must say that the Remo Roto Toms are a wonderful addition to my Tama drum kit. I have them set up in front of my double floor toms where I use them as an added percussion effect while performing a drum solo. Any serious drummer should obtain a set of the 6", 8", and 10" Roto Toms. They're great!

Pros: These add so much to my drum set and are incredibly fun to play. I just love them. They are awesome for drum solos as well as trippy spacey jam stuff (listen to the intro to Time by Pink Floyd). Also they will make your kit look so much more impressive.Cons: They are not nearly as loud as actual drums due to the lack of a shell, therefore if they are un-miced they can get drowned out if there is lots of noise from other instruments. Although the stand itself is incredibly durable, the bar they mount to can be difficult to deal with, and it gets kinda warped when I take the rotos on and off.But overall I love these things and would recommend them to any drummer looking to expand their set.

Theese toms are amazing theyve lasted me about 4 years and sound great for any type of music the only possible downside i could think of is the fact that they take up a good amount of space on my drumset and are very heavy but they are a great buy. i love to customize the pitch by easily turning the heads. If your looking for three extra toms on your set for a great price that you can basically make sound however you want theese are certainly the toms to get

Roto-toms are a great addition to any kit, great value for a big sound. First thing is go to the nearest hardware store and buy some wing nuts to add to the screw shaft. From the bottom wined them up under the tom set, Tune first then use the wing nut to lock it in pace. Stops nasty shocks from stage hands or sound guy's accidentally knocking out the tuning set up from the sound check till play time. Most famous roto tom solo check out the start of Time by Pink Floyd

How the stand and the Roto Toms connect leave me with a bit of a question as to the durability of this model, but so far so good. These are very versatile and give added potential to any genre. Cant wait to use them!!

Part of the drum family but do ot try to play them like normal drums. If you want to add that certain "something special" to your music then invest in these. They are cool and funky and if positioned for personal playing comfort they will please endlessly. For those of you who want to add latin percussion or subtle reggae fills, get a set. Personally I would not use them in Jazz, Blues or Country but my mind is open to ideas here. The stand leaves much to be desired. To me heavy duty means heavy duty and what is supplied does not even come close. I would suggest checking out a local welder and having a custom stand built. One word of warning, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN OR ROTATE....you will hear a sharp crack and no it's not the batter head (wish it was that easy), it's one or more of the base struts cracking in half for my stupidity. Other than this, I would not do without them on my kit.

i got these when i bought a slightly used 7 piece pearl export set. i love the way the sound. don't get me wrong. but they are so heavy that they need their own stand or whatever you clamp them off of will keep falling. also they are great for when your ready to really start expanding your set but i dont see them as essential. you can get some awesome sounds out of them but i find them hard to insert into a song. they seem more likesomething used for drum solos and thats about all. they sound great but shouldn't be at the top of your priority list if your just starting off

I was looking to expand my 5-piece drumset but buying more toms was going to be too expensive. Instead I bought the Remo Roto Toms and WOW. Not only do they sound terrific, and look awesome in my set, they are also relatively inexpensive.Obviously they aren't very practical in many kinds of music, but they kick ass in drum solos and sound amazing in spacy or Pink Floyd style music (listen to Nick Masons drum opening in Time) and basically turn a 5-piece set into an 8-piece.One thing to be aware of is that they are not as loud as other drums, but they can hold their own.The setup is pretty easy despite the lack of good directions. The only thing I had trouble with was finding a case for them. So if like me you get sick of the cardboard box and bubble wrap method, go get a gator GP-66 bongo case, which is big enough to fit the roto toms if you put them at the right angles.Overall I am very happy.

Comments about Remo Rototoms 6", 8" and 10":

Play these both live and studio and must say that the sound is one all of its own. When tuned right they can blend in with ANY set of drums for the added edge most drummers always look for. The only two problems I have with these roto toms have nothing to do with there performance they have to do with availability from MF. The heads (6-8-10in) you do not have to replace is one (with dot in center) and the second is that I have two other remo roto toms 12" & 14" and I know they have other sizes but you do not stock them. I think if you lower the price a little for the just starting out drummer and stock MF with the items I mentioned above I think you will sell a lot of this product and will have very few bad reviews. For all of you out there though take it from this drummer who started at age7 and has been playing for 48years in bands this is a very good addition to your set along with the other remo drums.

Back in 79' I got my first set of roto toms to add to my 5pc Pearl kit. I'm also a big Neil Peart fan. They were made much better then but they still have the same cool sound. I use them a lot on fills and in solos. The rototrack hasn't changed much through the years and needs a redesign for sure! Unfortunately, the Remos aren't much better the the knock offs these days, but I still love them!

It brought me back to the days of area rock with its bright tones. However these drums became unplayable due to thier constand de-tuning. The concept is that you can tune them while you play to give it different sounds, but really that just leads to the drums tuning lower and lower as you play them. It got to the point where I played a fill, and then the next time I tried to play it during the sme song, it went to a lower and bad pitch. The concept of these drums is great, they just need to be made better.
