Zildjian

Professional cymbal with multiple tonal options.

Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Crash cymbal features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.

The relatively thin design of the crash results in a very responsive quality. It opens up quickly but still has the ability to project loudly and cut into dense mixes due to the unlathed bell.

"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

Features:

I have been playing for over 33 years. I just boutght 13 hats, 9,11,15,17,18,20 in The K Hibird. They sound is great. I have owned paiste sigs full set, I just replace my Sabian HH full set with the  K Hibirds. the difference is the K Hibireds are lighter so the sound will not travel as far as the Sabian HH. But you can realy work some nice dymanics out on them. Dont get me wrong now the 17,18 will put out some volume by all means! I would have to say the K Hibirds are a lot like the Sabian AA in projection and as excellent as the High end Paiste Signatures. If you going for head banging better get a heavyer cymbal or hard music. Rock, country, blues, classic etc... this is a great application. I was a bit dissipointed as to how the new cymbal looked when delivered to me. Zildjian apperently throws them together wiht no seprators becasue of the scratches and funky crap on cymbals. But I am picky so it could be me! I like a nice clean cymbal. I had to send the cymbals back 3 tims to get what I wanted. But let me tell you Musician Friends took very very good care of me!!! These days with all the rush on customers buying up every thing. Musician friends made sure I felt like their only customer and proved it time after time.

Quality:

QUALITY: is great can beat it! very well made cymbal and great looking laths and stamps.

Value:
Overall:

Likes: Sound Looks of the  two laths. Stamp is Cool! great application for Rock, Country, Classic Blues etc...

Disslikes:  Price off charts for a light cymbal , resale value SUCKS in todays market, and they way Zildjian processes the cymbal because of the finger prints and scratches.

I've been playing these for a few months now and my appreciation for them has grown stronger. I have the 16" and 17" and these are my primary go to crashes. I also have a Sabian 18" Dark crash a K Zildjian Dark crash 18" and a Sabian 19" Studio crash. All these cymbals have very different tones but have similar character and blend so well together. They offer a great palate of sounds for my style of classic rock & blues & some mild punk. They may not work for metal and the like but still great cymbals never the less That's it ! Rock on !! P.S. I still don't like the price but you gotta pay for that sound!

If you like a dark explosive sound you'll love these. I have a 16" & 17" they are amazing. Explosive cutting attack with a fast decay, tried the 19" it was too washy for me, also tried the dark thin 16" & 17" they sounded almost identical to each other, the Hybrids were a little lighter with less wash. kinda pricey hence the 4.0 on value, otherwise great, I have an 18" on the way. I'm not that heavy of a hitter but I do play agressively; ala John Bonham, Ian Pace, Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer etc...

Last summer I went to the SweetWater Gear Fest in Fort Wayne and in the flea market a guy was selling these and some Avedis Zildjians for $40 dollars each! So I got the 19" and a few Avedis and this is the best cymbal I have evr used and plan on using.  I'm a Paiste guy but I'n keeping this one forever.

Better than a Soundbyte!!

Listen, I spent weeks contemplating what cymbals to buy. When I first began searching I thought I would save money and buy ZHT's( a nice sounding mid-range cymbal itself) and then slowly upgrade to the K's. I play an 11-piece pearl kit and was robbed close to a year ago and they took all they could carry: Korg D3200 recorder, Korg M-5o keyboard workstation and all of my cymbals and pedals. They were sweet enough to leave my kit and wrap-around rack.  Anyway, when it come time to make a purchase I went to a local music store to see and hear the Hybrids as I had a feeling they were better than what the soundbytes were portraying.  They sounded incredible. Very strong shimmer with a dark wash. The whole line fit that description. I had planned on the 15", 17" 19" crashes and the 9" and 11" splash, but the 15" was a little to high but the 16" was much darker and lower in tone while still sounding like shattered glass. Amazing. The 17", while the undertone(the hum below the wash) was lower than the 16"'s the actual wash or shimmer was higher in tone wich was kind of backwards from what I expected but they sound great together. The 19" has a beutiful depth while still maintaining a shimmer to die for. The wash on these Hybrid,s are insane. These are thin cymbals but they're no fast crash exactly. They have a mild sustain, yet, so musical. I am telling you, you could write a song with these cymbals alone. Now for the Splash, Oh Man these are so sharp they could cut the rest of your cymbals in half. The nine is the embodiment of what a splash can be. The 11" is OUTRAGEOUS, The sharpest splash I have ever heard. So Do I think these are great cymbals? There is a reason why these are the most expensive cymbals Zildjian offer, and as bad as it may hurt to think about laying down that kind of cash for a cymbal, you'll never look back if you do. Two more notes: 1) Although thin, these cymbals have a heavy lathe and that makes for a very reasonably durable cymbal.  2) I am a professional yet I swear by Wuhans Chinas(laugh if you want), and thier Chinas should have a K stamped on them because they couldn't be any more sonically matched. You don't have to be a rookie to appreciate thier Chinas. Take a chance on a 16",18", or 20".
