I picked up one of these for a donation. Having a number of guitars myself, and checking out various ones while donating, I have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality of the Pacifica. For the 50-80 bucks or so difference in price between lowest end budget models and these you're getting a much better made instrument. Construction details are far more honed on the Yamaha series.

This guitar will last a beginner into intermediate stages before they start to feel a need for specific woods or features, etc. It's a little simpler than a strat (only 2 knobs vs 3), but plays much like a MIM. Even the tremolo is still more stable than other low end guitars (not heading out of tune as easy). It's kind of a simple, no frills model, but really done well. This is definitely worth the extra few bucks, you'll be glad you went with it. A great guitar to learn and grow on.

I've been playin for about 5 years and this was my first electric guitar. within the first month i got it those little black & white cables snapped off so I had to re-sevor(or however you spell it) them on. I ended up having to do that at least 20 times, no joke. the fretboard sucks. I still have problems playing Iron Man because the frets are the size of mountains and the fretboard isn't slick at all. Scratches easily, but does stay in tune pretty well. The only good thing(besides tuning) is the different types of distortion you can get from it. Other than that, stick with an ibanez or epiphone les paul for beginners. R.I.P dimebag.

Arguably Best Guitar for the price

      By djobson101-AxMMe

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

Well this was my first guitar when I was 12 years old, I'm 24 now and still pick this thing up almost everyday. Of course, it's gone through some evolutions, but hey, this guitar is nothing but a workhorse.
All you really need in an electric guitar... HSS pickup config is great for different styles. Tremolo is good for subtle vibrato, if you abuse it like EVH, Jimi or Slayer, then yes, it will go out of tune. To be expected.
All the parts are top notch. Great construction and feel... It's lightweight, too. Tone nuts might swap out the pickups from this guitar, but stock ones aren't so bad. Definitely have heard much worse.
Yamaha is such a success driven company, you really get a nice bang for your buck out of these guitars. I've had mine for over 10 years now.

I own this guitar for last 10 years and i am really impresed whit this instrument. Yamaha is very good brand. This guitar has beautiful body, comfortable neck (basic components).Pickups are average. If you want to improve your sound i suggest DiMarzio pickups (Pro Track-neck, Mo' Joe-Bridge)and you wiil get full profesional sound!

      my old standby

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar and I've owned the metallic red one for 8 years now and it has never let me down, I have an Ibanez Xiphos and a Bc Rich Warlock in my arsenal, but i still play my pacifica the most. I recently swapped out the stock humbucker for a Dimarzio DP151 and i play it even more now. This thing has been through Hell and it still performs as good as the day i got it. I've dropped it four times, knocked into walls, doorways, cabinets, etc., needless to say its got a lot of scratches, dings, and chips, but the neck has never needed any adjustments, which surprises me because my Ibanez is less than two years old and it already is showing signs of neck warping. This is a phenomenal guitar that i will have until the day im 6 feet under. Thank You Yamaha.

      MY GAWD! AWESOME GUITAR

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is deffinentaly one of a kind all right it stays in tune almost always and the tremolo whammy bar gives you a very wide vibrato. Not only does this guitar have a great look but such a good price too. trust me, buy this guitar from musicians friend not a different store because I have ordered guitars from other stores and they are not in good shape. This guitar is ideal for anyone that likes fender, it is like the exact same thing but way cheaper. BUY THIS GUITAR YOU NEED IT! Such good features and sounds like heaven when you play it, this guitar will send you through the roof! buy it and test it out you will not be disapointed I promise you!!!

      A good first guitar

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar and it was very nice sounding with distortion and on clean. The pickups have unique sounds when you switch them. And it is a great guitar for the price. I looked at other starter guitars and there was none like this the other ones were all really bad a break easily. I love Ibanez but even there starter kit guitars are cheap.

      Not the Best

      By TheOfficeFan9656

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar from a dealer about a year and a half ago. It has been giving me problems from the start. Doesn't stay in tune, the tuners are stiff and don't tune well at all. Whammy bar use with this guitar is bad as well. Gets the guitar terribly out of tune.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

My Dad bought this one for me as a first electric guitar. The bridge pick up is great for rock n' roll. this axe always stays in tune and the tremalo bar never makes a diffrence in the tuning. The neck is beyond smooth. My older brother who has been playing for 7 years and wont ever give it back to me.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is worth the price and pretty good for beginners. It has a nice sound, but, a little more distortion would be better. It has a five way switch and the guitar does not have a year yet and is giving me problems switching from distortion to clean and vice versa. The thing I like is that the guitar stays in tune but when you use the tremolo, even touching it, the strings comes out of tune, but for a reason not the factory strings; it would be better if you change the tuners for locking ones. But the guitar still nice and at a great and affordable price for beginners.

I feel in love with this guitar first sight! Not only does it play like a 57' strat this yamaha looks like one two! The neck was as smooth as silk and the whammy bar doesnt throw off the tuning at all!
