I picked up one of these for a donation. Having a number of guitars myself, and checking out various ones while donating, I have to say I was pretty impressed with the quality of the Pacifica. For the 50-80 bucks or so difference in price between lowest end budget models and these you're getting a much better made instrument. Construction details are far more honed on the Yamaha series.

This guitar will last a beginner into intermediate stages before they start to feel a need for specific woods or features, etc. It's a little simpler than a strat (only 2 knobs vs 3), but plays much like a MIM. Even the tremolo is still more stable than other low end guitars (not heading out of tune as easy). It's kind of a simple, no frills model, but really done well. This is definitely worth the extra few bucks, you'll be glad you went with it. A great guitar to learn and grow on.

so this was my first guitar...i liked it when i sucked, but as i got better i realized that this guitar was not as good as it gets. This lead me to purchasing an epiphone LP standard (great guitar). First of all, the fretboard is not comfortable to your fingers...at all... second, the pick-ups are very weak. The switch will sometimes go dead and i'll have to push it a bit to get it working again. Also, the screws that hold the guitar together have come loose several times. I'd recomend this to nobody but begginers, and even for begginers I'd say you should save a little more for a standard mexican fender.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar not too long ago as a replacement for a guitar I hated. The yamaha pac012 feels very comfortable and is easy to play. The sound is amazing compared to the other guitar I was using. I am just starting to learn and I was told by many that this would be a great guitar to start with and I wouldn't need to upgrade before a long time.

Arguably Best Guitar for the price

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

Well this was my first guitar when I was 12 years old, I'm 24 now and still pick this thing up almost everyday. Of course, it's gone through some evolutions, but hey, this guitar is nothing but a workhorse.
All you really need in an electric guitar... HSS pickup config is great for different styles. Tremolo is good for subtle vibrato, if you abuse it like EVH, Jimi or Slayer, then yes, it will go out of tune. To be expected.
All the parts are top notch. Great construction and feel... It's lightweight, too. Tone nuts might swap out the pickups from this guitar, but stock ones aren't so bad. Definitely have heard much worse.
Yamaha is such a success driven company, you really get a nice bang for your buck out of these guitars. I've had mine for over 10 years now.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

I own this guitar for last 10 years and i am really impresed whit this instrument. Yamaha is very good brand. This guitar has beautiful body, comfortable neck (basic components).Pickups are average. If you want to improve your sound i suggest DiMarzio pickups (Pro Track-neck, Mo' Joe-Bridge)and you wiil get full profesional sound!

I have a 90's Pacifica and it is my pride and joy. I spotted this model in the store hoping it would be like my other one, actually it sounds better than the 90's model. Great bell like chimes and screaming PAF like bridge pick up. I want another one :)

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

I think pac012 is better than others (wich the price is more high). Sometimes many artists are buying guitars for the lengendary brand, but they replace parts like pickups, for example. This guitar pac012 offers many sounds and good construction. Yes, the true, it isn'nt the most pretty in the worl. His sound is different, but very pretty in clean mode and overdrives styles. Maybe i'll buy another pacifica... a 112, or will replace his pickups, but is only for an experiment of sound. Others that I've played can give a sound that i don't want. Is soft for my fingers. I like the bue... it's one of my favorites guitars.

This guitar is deffinentaly one of a kind all right it stays in tune almost always and the tremolo whammy bar gives you a very wide vibrato. Not only does this guitar have a great look but such a good price too. trust me, buy this guitar from musicians friend not a different store because I have ordered guitars from other stores and they are not in good shape. This guitar is ideal for anyone that likes fender, it is like the exact same thing but way cheaper. BUY THIS GUITAR YOU NEED IT! Such good features and sounds like heaven when you play it, this guitar will send you through the roof! buy it and test it out you will not be disapointed I promise you!!!

I picked up the Yamaha pac012 a few months ago. Just recently dropped an emg-81 into it. Wow what an amazing sound. everything with it is reasonably good. The neck plays well. And the things i didn't like about it were all fixable. If you are looking for bang for your buck this is your guitar.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar from many years ago. The thing about Yamaha is, they are such a huge enterprise from everything else they sell that their products are very quality oriented. This guitar hands down beats a Squier Strat, I own one of those as well and the Pacifica outperforms it in every category. This guitar is lightweight, plays smooth as a dream and won't let you down. It even has a pretty nice crunch to it when you plug it in a good half stack. I own many guitars including a Jackson and a Washburn that were both many times the price of this guitar and I have to say it is still my good old favorite.

Excels as a beginner's guitar. Not a complicated instrument, but manages to have decent tone anyway. Not something you'd take on a tour or anything, because the hardware isn't there and the guitar wouldn't hold up, but it's good to practice on and jam with.

This was my first guitar and I've owned the metallic red one for 8 years now and it has never let me down, I have an Ibanez Xiphos and a Bc Rich Warlock in my arsenal, but i still play my pacifica the most. I recently swapped out the stock humbucker for a Dimarzio DP151 and i play it even more now. This thing has been through Hell and it still performs as good as the day i got it. I've dropped it four times, knocked into walls, doorways, cabinets, etc., needless to say its got a lot of scratches, dings, and chips, but the neck has never needed any adjustments, which surprises me because my Ibanez is less than two years old and it already is showing signs of neck warping. This is a phenomenal guitar that i will have until the day im 6 feet under. Thank You Yamaha.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012 Electric Guitar:

Been playing just over 5 years, have actively played in 6 bands since then and gone through quite a collection of guitars. This guitar, with some tweaks here and there, is not only great value for the worth, but is one of the better guitars that I prefer. Very light yet sturdy, built pretty well, sounds excellent, costs virtually nothing compared to most guitars with this quality. I recommend you add this anywhere from a beginner's hands to a live performance set.

This was my first guitar and it was very nice sounding with distortion and on clean. The pickups have unique sounds when you switch them. And it is a great guitar for the price. I looked at other starter guitars and there was none like this the other ones were all really bad a break easily. I love Ibanez but even there starter kit guitars are cheap.

This was my first guitar. I got to tell you, even tough I play a Gibson SG, this guitar still sounds fairly good. Don't get me wrong, the Pacifica cant even tough the SG in sound quality and performance, but the Pacifica also has good humbuckers. They are hot, and the provide good distortion. It NEVER broke down, and everything works perfectly. What I suggest doing once you get it, is lower the strings. The strings are a mile away from the feret board when you buy it stock, but you can lower them A LOT before getting feret buzz. This guitar should be the number 1 choice for beginners. If you are a beginner, don't buy a Squier (the humbuckers hum louder then I can hum), don't get an Ibanez (cheap quality), and don't get a no-name brand in guitars (such as Beheringer). Get a pacifica, it stays in tune, great tremolo, great humbuckers(barley hum), and great value.
