Comments about Korg SP-280 88-Key Digital Piano with Stand:

For the price you get a whole lot of keyboard. The weighted keys have an excellent feel to them. If you are looking for a toy with tons of effects and tones this is not the instrument for you. This one is for the serious player who wants to let his/her playing do the talking. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Korg SP-280 88-Key Digital Piano with Stand:

I bought the Korg SP-280 to have an 88-key piano with realistic action, on which I could play, and practice classical music. None of my synths have acceptable action for my needs, and I really just don't have space for a real, acoustic piano.

The Sp-280 is compact, very well-made, and has one of the best actions of any digital piano that I have tried. It does not QUITE feel like a real piano, but it is close enough (and quite close, at that). By the same token, the piano patches are nowhere near the sound of a real grand or baby grand piano -- for one thing, they come out of stereo speakers, rather that resonating on the soundboard and whole structure of a real piano -- but they are as good as any I have heard from other vendors. If anything, this instrument has a better-differentiated pp than on most other digital instruments.

It is rather heavy, so I won't be gigging with it, but it fits nicely in my studio, and the the attached stand is a BIG plus -- sturdy, stable and included. It comes with a reasonable damper pedal that is heavy enough not to get kicked around the floor.

To recap: It's a very nice, well-thought-out instrument with few bells and whistles, but great, well-implemented fundamentals. And it's easy to use -- turn it on and play, with no boot-up.

Comments about Korg SP-280 88-Key Digital Piano with Stand:

I have been playing for 33 years and prefer digital pianos (slabs as they are called) with internal speakers.
I owned a P95 for a few years but the speakers were not good enough in my opinion.
I ordered a P105 but returned it as the unit rattled.
I returned a PX350 due to not loud enough speakers

This unit has some things I really enjoy:
                  1. Piano sample- it is a Steinway sample but sounds more authentic than those of Casio for example
                  2. On board speakers- very clear probably the biggest surprise
                  3. Rhodes samples are good

The action on this and the Krome 88 is better than the SP170's action. It is not mushy like the SP170.
Also, like Casio's PX series there is a brilliance effect
I purchased it without trying out first and am excited to own it
