Excellent idea, excellent product, CRAZY good value! I use a mic splitter with mine-one side into the mixer, the other into the B205D's Channel 1. I run the normal unpowered monitor mix into the B205D's channel 2. I mostly use the channel 2 signal, but if I need to hear a little more ME, I can bump channel 1 up a bit without having to bother the sound guy. If I have to run sound from the stage, I run the MAINS signal to channel 2 instead of the monitor mix, so I can hear what's going on out front. They are a LITTLE shy on high frequencies, but adding a tweeter would probably cause feedback at this close range to a mic. I wish I had 5 more--probably will eventually!
I really like having 3 channels of inputs--opens up multiplw ways to use this monitor! I wish it came with a mic splitter. This thing is also an EXCELLENT acoustic guitar amp! Or, plug your mp3 into the RCA ins, a mic in channel 1, a guitar in channel 2--instant PA for a 1 man act. Even better--Daisy chain 1 more--instant PA WITH MONITOR for a 1 man act!
Despite all the horrible reviews about Behringer's quality and product support, I have had ZERO problems with ANY of my Behringer gear-and I have several pieces, most are several years old. The one thing I contacted Behringer Support for (extra mic stand mounts for this item) was handled quickly.
This price bucks for a powered monitor with 3 input channels? That sounds this good? EXCELLENT value!

I bought this about two years ago, to use at duo/trio gigs, because I could not hear myself well. It's worked really well up until recently, when it developed a "buzz" or "rattle" inside. I opened it up, tried to insulate metal parts, put electrical tape on any parts that could be vibrating, but so far, have not been successful in removing the buzz. It only happens at certain frequencies/notes, but they happen to be where many of our songs are at. I'm now having to either send it out for repair or replace it and use it as a backup unit. Really hard to say if I'd recommend it, due to vibration/buzz issue. Prior to this happening, I was very happy with it.

Ask me a question

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I have used a pretty wide range of monitor cabinets over the years and decided to give a small personal unit a try.

My Rhythm guitarist liked the way mine worked so much he bought one as well. The lead guitarist and drummer are looking at getting them too! (Now to convince the 3rd guitarist and sax player to jump on the bandwagon.)

Carrying this little workhorse around sure beats lugging a bunch of Peavey 112 TLMs all over creation. We'll still use a couple of full sized floor units to fill from the sides but 2 cabinets are a far sight better to lug than 6 or 8!
The 3 way parametric EQ alone makes this unit worth its weight in gold.

If you are so inclined you can daisy chain several units together (but you'll need to go from XLR thru to 1/4" male). It would be nice if they would have provided the option of XLR thru to XLR input or 1/4' to 1/4" but it's not a really big deal. Just get a cable with XLR - 1/4" and you're set.

The volume controls let me adjust the level without having to get the sound tech's attention and then make funny gestures as to tell him to turn my monitor up or worse yet, the ever so unprofessional "announcement" over the PA that I need more monitor.

I'm a short guy (5' 4") and with a straight mic stand set all the way down the angle works just fine for me. I have mine mounted on its own stand and my mic separate on a boom stand with the monitor placed slightly to my right. Using an ElectroVoice N/D 967 mic I have zero feedback issues. If you experience feedback you may want to consider getting a better mic (it really IS worth the extra $$$ in the long run).
I've had mine for a little over a year now and it's held up wonderfully with no issues at all. The sound quality is good (what can one expect from a very small cabinet) and actually way beyond what I expected from such a small package.
You can't beat it for the price! At 1/2 the cost of the Mackie unit (BTW...they are the same) this one is definitely the way to go in a personal stage monitor!

Who could ask for anything more

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

After being warned by different stores who did not have this item in stock to stay away from it. And according to them the cheap components etc.etc.etc. I was scared but based my decision to get one on the Behringer gear I already own and that I have been more than satisfied with. This unit is simply fantastic for the price, it's silent, loud, and has all the features which enables me to link it with my partners Soloamp so I can also hear him through my mix. And it does not heat up at all. It's half the price of the Mackie and TC Helicon and I'm glad I made the move, the money I saved helped me get the 4Bar lighting system, so now I have personal monitoring and stage lights. Who could ask for anything more at this price. Bravo BEHRINGER I use this unit in venues for my folk duo where most of the time we don't have much stage space to work with. On the other hand I wouldn't use it when I'm playing with my full blues band, with them I go back to my wedges.

Rather have a Mackie

By QuadFinger

from Austin Texas

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I purchased one of these and used it on two different gigs. I also purchased a Mackie SRM 150. The B205D is a direct clone of the Mackie. The specs are IDENTICAL, the mic stand mount is IDENTICAL.The three band EQ frequencies are IDENTICAL. ALL I/O and switching are IDENTICAL . I A/B them for sound using a beta 58 and frankly in could not hear any difference. Now when I say clone, I mean a near exact copy from a specs stand point. I returned the B205D in favor of the Mackie, not because it sounds better but because Behringer has a reputation of poor quality and I feel that the Mackie will hold up better. Again let me stress that the specks are identical and so is the sound.

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I returned two Mackie SRM150s---they just died. I waited and got one of these after using a B208D for a year. I'm very happy with the Behri---don't even waste your time with the Mackie if this is the type of unit you need. It performs just like the Mackie does and doesn't die on you. Behri has its Class-D stuff together. I now own two of these. Don't expect Wembly. Great for songwriters, acoustic practice and vocal rehearsals. An interesting alternative to a full-blown acoustic amp. All at a bargain price.

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

we are supplying a monitor mix into the back of the 1st unit and using the thru connector to daisy-chain through the other 3 units. Then we are supplying a personal signal from the 4 vocal channels from the board(using the channel patch connector). It didn't work as expected unfortunately the thru connector on the back isn't a duplicate of what comes in on the back input connector. Instead the thru is a mix of what comes in the back and what is supplied in the front channels as well. This forced us to switch our ides to use Y connectors to supply band monitor mix into channel 1 and the personal vocal signal into channel 2. Anyway, not a really big deal but it would have been nice if bhering had supplied a BLOCK-DIAGRAM of the signal flow for all subsystems!!! Other than that it's pretty close to PERFECT!!!

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

This unit can fill an outdoor 1/4 of an acre lot with music with no problem.
Great quality, ok price, I plan to use this for a loooong time....
It's the versatillity Iove. Just pick it up and go, and the ability to hook up just about anythin to it from an I pod, guitar, keyboard to an 8-track tape player. (younger folks ask your parents)
I bought it for a karaoke monitor, however, I am painting the outside of my house and had it hooked up to my laptop (no hum) outside in the shade all day long about half way (loud) playing pop and rock music. This thing didn't even cough once. I am very pleased as with my other Behringer products.
I sounds better after speaker break in. Say.... 2 or 3 hrs. of moderate play.
This thing is pretty loud, and the tone is warm with no irritating overtones found in cheaper quality units.
It's true the low lows and high highs roll off, but the sound is still full range-ish.
I understand in order to get more volume, the frequency range needs to be comprmised.
It is punchy, and the highs are crisp, but it is in the midrange and mid low range where this monitor sings," with the ""ice pick"" effect.
It is as if a section near the irritating (the baby cry frequency) 1khz range was at least reduced.
The sound is very pleasent and warm to my ear", I pod sound good, my telecaster even sound clean and full though this monitor.
The speaker does get overwhelmed if I crank it all the way up with the bass all the way up.
This is due to the amplifier power reserve (bigger amp than needed) for weak signal source sometimes used like mics, and passive guitar pickups.
Great quality, rugged shell, good knobs, good plugs.
It's kinda steep, but I will make that up in my 1st gig.

Big Sound in a Small Package

By El Trubadour

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

It's not very often that one finds two great uses for one product, but this active speaker excels in both categories. I needed a compact speaker system, which would easily fir into my trunk without taking up much room. I wanted it to be small, yet powerful. At the same time, I needed a couple of powered stage monitors for other events. The Behringer Eurolive B205D is a surprisingly powerful unit, which can easily handle a lecture in a room of 100 people. As a stage monitor, it keeps things off the ground and closer to the performer. Also, the unique mounting system enables the microphone stand to support the monitor and place the microphone boom over the unit. So, if you are just looking for a small, portable speaker system, OR a convenient stage monitor, feast your eyes on the Behringer B205D. You will congratulate yourself on your fine selection.

I bought one of these to save over $100. on the similar Mackie. Not sure if I would get the same quality, overall I'm very happy.I use it to monitor my solo E. Piano & voice at gigs. Play out every week so it has already seen much use. I dropped it once with no damage, still sounds good. Overall a very good value.

Very practical, surprising amount of muscle

Comments about EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I'm a worship leader in a 1000+ member church, and we always need quick and easily set up speaker options for a variety of needs. (laptop audio for projection, stage monitors, small scale PA applications, etc.)

Pros: Amazing clarity and volume in a very small package, 150 Watts in something literally the size of a small boom box. Having two XLR/1/4 inch inputs plus stereo RCA inputs means being able to hook up guitar and vocals for a quick small to medium-sized room gig, and it easily has enough power to work well for that.

Cons: Given the limitations of physics, you can only expect so much bass response out of something this size, and while you'll still get a decent amount of low-mids, you'd definitely need to supplement this with a subwoofer or bass amp if you want true full-range sound.

Overall: Great value for the price, great portability, good configuration of inputs and controls. A very practical little speaker with a surprising amount of muscle.

These little monitors are "amazing"

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

Have you ever read the term "amazing" in a product review? I bet you have - probably many, many times. And just how often is that overused term justified? Probably hardly ever. Well here's an exception to the rule. I play 4-5 nights a week in a variety of musical settings - from a duo all the way up to a five-piece band. I think the one constant in whatever lineup I use is the guys always want to be able to hear themselves better - either their vocals or the band mix. In certain settings monitors aren't even needed; but in the other 80-90% of the venues we play, monitors are necessary. We've used powered floor monitors for the most part over the years, and they usually work well. But as you know, they are heavy (45+ lbs.) and take up a good amount of real estate when hauling. A friend introduced me to this compact (7 lbs.) Behringer monitor a couple years ago and I almost dismissed it immediately, because in appearance it reminded me of the Hot Spot passive monitors we used 30+ years ago (those old Hot Spots never really worked very well.) But when my friend offered to let me try this little Behringer, I gave it to my guitar player who is always complaining he can't hear himself and let him use it for a gig. He didn't really comment on it after the gig and I returned it to my friend the next day. Fast forward a year, another musician friend of mine mentioned a little monitor that he had his eye on. It was actually the TC Helicon personal monitor. So I looked it up online; and as I was reading the reviews, I kept thinking it looked familiar. Then it hit me, it reminded me of the Behringer unit. So I started looking at the reviews for Behringer and noted that it had earned 5 stars across the board. So I called up my other friend and asked to borrow his Behringer again. He obliged and this time I really paid attention to the comments my band members made. Their unanimous verdict after a week of use: "Amazing!" (And I agree.)

Originally I purchased one for my son so he can crank up the music while practicing. Since they passed that test I decided to purchase 4 units to use in a live performance to help with monitoring. Well I was in a smaller church venue (100 people) and these monitors worked perfect. This church had two 15" floor monitors and two 15" house swpeakers. I used one unit for the piano player to amplify his piano so he was not just relying on the house monitors to hear. One for the bass player to hear the lead vocal, one for the drummer, and one for lead vocal singer. Everyone was able to customize their own mix and volume. We play loud, and these units held up without a hitch. I would recommend them in a heartbeat. I never write a review but this product deserves a thumb up.

Loud Clean Punch, Small Lite & Cheap!

        See all my reviews

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

Great little system, which is obviously a knock-off of Mackie's SRM150, but at about half the price!Very impressive volume and punch from a 5.25" speaker.Side by side with a JBL EON-15 P1, this lil guy put out just a bit less power, and the tonal quality of the two blended well together. But it becomes evident that this lacks a presence on the very highs (because there is no tweeter) and of course it also lacks significant low-end (because the driver is small and not designed as a woofer or subwoofer)Also note, though it appears to have 4 bass ports, there are really only two. The other two are only for looks.Obviously designed as personal monitors, they can also make for a super cheap and affordable PA system for small to medium sized venues, especially if adding a sub-woofer to make up for the missing low-end. (Like a Behringer EUROLIVE B1500D-PRO)...But keep in mind this runs 125 Watt RMS, so even though it includes a safety limiter, don't push it like you would a larger 150+ watt PA system, or else you may damage the speakers. I did this the first day I owned it, and the next day, noticed a slight rattling sound unless I cut back on some of the Bass.As far as the electronics, everything works perfectly, feels smooth and sounds great. Even with the volume up 100%, these are VERY QUIET with VERY LITTLE noise!I just ordered a pair of TRIPOD microphone stands to keep these 7 pound bad boys raised up high and stable. But even with a weighted non-tripod stand, these can be raised to over 5 feet, and not tip over...as long as you don't bunk into them :)Use it with an ounce of wisdom not to push them to 110%, and you should enjoy these for years!

The Behringer B205D powered monitor has been on the market for years now with a proven track record for ruggedness, sound quality and reliability. For the last several years I've been borrowing a friend's B205D monitors and decided to purchase my own. When Musician's Friend offered me a 20% discount I pulled the trigger. Shipping was fast and they provided a tracking number. I've coupled the B205D with my Allen & Heath ZED10FX mixer and two Yamaha DRX10 powered mains (one small but mighty vocal PA). If I had Behringer ear I would suggest they put back the carry handle on top of the box (like the older ones had).

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I have had been basically unable to hear myself play, especially my alto flute, in a variety of bands and settings, and most recently at gigs, large and small, with sound engineers and personal stage monitors. Beyond frustrating. Apparently I was only playing to the house, because I couldn't here myself at all over the the other guys' amps, not to mention the drummer. So I have been toying with in-ear mic vs mic stand monitor. After trying both locally I settled on the B205D, and I am impressed. I have it on an old mic stand about chest height pointed at my face and I can hear everything I play, especially the low register, quiet alto flute notes. Finally!

The only downside is a high pitched vibration when I play an F (349.2 Hz) on the C flute, or its corresponding note on the alto. Like something in the speaker cabinet is loose. It is not loud, and I only notice it if playing alone and the thing is cranked up. It goes away if the speaker's bass EQ is turned down.

To check this out, I took it back to my local shop today, and played the same notes through three different B205Ds, including new models and the floor model. They all have this issue. But I decided to keep it because I love this thing and the vibration is a minor issue for me.

With a full drum kit, SPACE in MOST of these clubs and sports bars is VERY limited. After using this personal monitor the 1st time, I am TOTALLY convinced that this is TRULY the way to go. I could hear everything clearly and I could adjust my own sound level without fighting with the sound man. I'm ordering another one for my keyboardist and guitarist. I also took out the extended warranty to play it safe. BUY this and ROCK OUT in style !!

I've had this unit for about a year & everytime I use it I'm impressed. I've used it in small to medium size venues performing Blues/ Classic Rock & it has been very adequate. I've used it primarily on a stand with the boom feature but this past weekend I put the monitor on its own stand, wow, really worked well could postion more exact, I feel it's great quality the price.

Comments about Behringer EUROLIVE B205D Active PA/Monitor Speaker:

I use this in a contemporary Church Band, I play guitar and sing. I am using this as intended, it is about 3 feet from my face pointed right at me. I have my mic in the path of the sound but it is a high end super cardoid pattern dynamic mic, so no feedback issues at all. I have the speaker mounted on my best mic stand and it seems solid, works great. I am on the back wall about 3 feet stage right from the drum set. I am hearing well enough now to nail my part in tight harmonies and getting myself situated correctly in the mix overall. Biggest problem was figuring out that I needed to turn the volume way down since it was crystal clear. We run a monitor mix basically the same as the FOH mix since the monitors actually get heard in FOH at the volumes we use in a smallish chapel. I simply grabbed a line out from the keyboard player's Mackie version of this same basic monitor and shot it to mine, sounds identical to us.

As to lack of bass response, well, we get the bass from the FOH speakers pretty well anyway. I mean the bas frequencies seem to travel better than the higher stuff in general in any setting. What we lose behind the speaker line is the mids and highs. This is what we need to sing well together, especially with tight harmonies or solo additions to group songs.

I have already recommended this to a couple of other guys in the band, especially the lead singer but it seems singers never actually buy any equipment, "that's what you instrument guys are for..."

Oh. I would be remiss if I did not say that I got an excellent deal on this unit too. I only buy equipment with gig money and that is infrequent and hard to come by. I was a bit tiny short and had decided it wasn't worth risking the wrath of wife to make the deal now, I would just keep hauling in my 12" wedge monitor for the summer until I hit a couple more chances to increase my gig money bin. No problem, MF made me an offer i couldn't refuse and gave it to me for exactly what I had in the fund. It wasn't the amount but the eagerness to help out a fellow musician and make the right sale, I was actually thinking of getting a really cheap "Kustom" version of this instead), that made me feel so well treated that day.

Looking back this is pretty much the way all my dealings with MF have been throughout the years. Thanks guys, keep up the good work.
