Features:

The two mics together can record just about any type of set up imaginable.

Quality:

Sound fantastic when hooked up to the right phantom power supply.

But do get a pop filter. It makes worlds of difference.

Value:

Extremely good price for the sound.

Overall:

I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this to anyone on a budget.

Features:

at first i thaught the mics were going to be cheap, so i picked them up expecting a cheap sound.... man was i ever wrong, both mics have very unique sounds the mxl 990 is great for vocals and small operations such as acoustic guitars. very nice responce for the bass. now the mxl 991 is my fav out of the 2 because the 991 is a small diaphram. meaning very tight low reaponce. i use the 991 on my cab with a sm57 and it blew me away the clarity is insane, very nice mic i got 2 and i love em. i strongly recomend getting them. i have an audio clip here this is the mxl 991 with a marshall jcm 900 in a 15 inch eminence speaker. no effects used for the clip.

Quality:

great no cons keep the mics in the case when done, mostiure is a big enemy for any condensor mic.

Value:

worth it trust me they are great mic, needed in every mic locker.

Overall:

just a great pair nothing comes close for the price value and quality.

MXL 990/991 Recording package

Features:

These mics are awesome for the price.  The 990 is great on vocals and the 991 makes my acoustic record like an acoustic.  I had been plugging in various ways attempting to get a decent acoustic sound.  I was going to buy an SM57 but when I saw the price of these I just had to try them.  If you have a home recording studio, get these.  You will not be disappointed.

Quality:

Made very well and cool little case!

Value:

I don't see how you can do better for the price.

Overall:

Totally happy and feel like a got a helluva deal.

MXL 990/991: A Great Value for Great Sound

| Review By: Larry Handley | 1 month, 3 days ago

3 people out of 3 found this review helpful

Features:

Well, the mics have no pad or pattern switching, so other than the protective case, not much to say about 'features'. Does have nice, flat responses across the frequency spectrum, with just a little boost in the high end that gives them tremendous clarity

Quality:

Feels well-built and very solid; nothing about them looks or feels 'cheap'. Case is sturdy and will protect the mics very well. Not lockable though.

Value:

Excellent value! In fact I expected a lot less for the price I paid. Plus, got TWO mics, and a case! Hard to beat that.

Overall:

I was very pleasantly surprised at how clear this mic (the MXL 990) sounds. I didn't expect it to sound as good as it does. Actually sounds as good as if not better than another mic I have that costs more. I am not by any stretch a 'connoiseur' of mics, but I know what I want to hear, and for clarity (my voice tends to be naturally too bassy for me) this mic blew me away. It does have a slightly boosted high frequency response, which happened to be just what I need for certain songs, otherwise my voice tends to get burried a bit in the mix and I have to EQ the heck out of it. Other than that little boost in the high end, this mic is pretty flat everywhere else, and has a very nice output level.

For the price, I seriously doubt I could have done better, and I would have been happy even if I had paid considerably more. I haven't tried the 991 yet, but if it does as good for its intended purpose, I have no worries that I'll be just as satisfied. Even if you're not into "collecting" a bunch of mics, I highly recommend you have at least this set, and maybe a different one when you want warmer vocals.

Great Buy

| Review By: Paul Poremski | 1 month, 4 days ago

Features:

The mics are great. The mic stand clips though are nothing fantastic but get the job done. And the carrying case they come with is simple but a very useful addition to this great buy.

Quality:

If I were rating just the mics i would give this a 10. These mics have a great tone for what you pay for. Great tone even before EQ and Mix. The clips though yet again are lacking.

Value:

Buy it. If you are a beginner or a professional. These are great for home recording on a budget.

Overall:

There are a lot of similar packages by other companies selling in the same price range. This is worth noting because of the great quality of the mics.

If you are going to buy, be sure you buy a pop filter so condensation from your mouth does not damage the 990. and a shock mount would also be a wise investment.
