OVERVIEW

Compact digital mixer with spectacular GUI.

The QSC TouchMix is designed for musicians and production professionals who need the power and capability of a large mixing console in a compact, affordable and easy to use format. TouchMix offers enough power and functionality to satisfy demanding professionals as well as a range of features and functions that help less experienced users achieve great results. A fantastic design, sure to be a popular piece of equipment.

Twelve dedicated XLR ins, four XLR and 1/4" hybrid inouts, and a pair of TRS 1/4" make for a very capable ionput scheme. It has stereo AUX outs as well in addition to its XLR main outs. Cue and moniter out, six XLR AUX outs. WiFi dongle, dual USB ports and a dedicated talkback channel. Four professional effects engines and even one channel of pitch correct, assignable to any input.

The TouchMix-16 provides the user a choice of Advanced Mode operation, which has total control over all parameters or Simple Mode, which provides only the most essential controls. For many practical engagements, Simple Mode is all you're likely to require. It offers everything you need and nothing you don't.

The QSC TouchMix Series represents a breakthrough in innovation and digital mixer design - the result of collaboration between QSC and industry icons Greg Mackie and Peter Watts. TouchMix resets the bar for performance and value and redefines the user experience for professionals and novices alike.

The TouchMix Control Android App for Android-based tablets and smart-phones is now available, as is its iOS predecessor. The Android app offers users comprehensive control of the TouchMix digital mixer, effectively replicating the on-mixer touch screen interface. The full compliment of features is available to tablet device users on both platforms. On Android smart-phones or Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices, the TouchMix Control App operates as a compact, personal stage monitor AUX mixing solution.

Up to twelve external devices comprising any combination of Android or Apple iOS smart-phones or tablets may be connected at once to a TouchMix mixer. In multiple wireless device operation, the TouchMix operator may allow or restrict access to functions on a per-device basis from the mixer. TouchMix Control is a free downloadable App from Google.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I absolutely love this TouchMix16. It absolutely kills with reliability and features. My favorite part BY FAR is the ability to label the channels digitally, save them, and save "scenes". The way the scenes work are perfect for any application, but great for bands who hook up quite a few pieces, drums, guitars, vocals, etc. I can play one bar, save the scene, then come back weeks later and recall that scene....set it and forget it! Incredible feature for sure. I play in 2 bands, an acoustic duo and then a 3 piece alternative rock band. It's great to know I can save scenes and labels for BOTH applications and that way, in any scenario, I'm set within seconds. All the levels are saved and it's never been easier. The ONE and only con I've found was that it can be difficult to get to know. It's got a huge manual and it does really suck when it comes to setting the EQ. I find that the parameters are almost too fine and specific, rather than an easy BASS, TREB, MID, GAIN, etc. They are all there of course, but with like 3-4 other parameters within each domain. I find that to be VERY unusable because it's not quick whatsoever. All I ever want to set is some easy EQ to tweak super fast depending on what instrument I'm using. I also will say the same about the EFFECTS. They are all there to use, but it's somewhat involved to dial it in. Again, you can't do this FAST. It sucks for me because some rooms require less reverb on guitar / vocals and other require more depending on size. Not the easiest tweak to make on the fly. I do, however, believe this is all pretty marginal and the unit itself is really the first of it's kind on the market.

Perhaps the coolest feature is the link with an iPad or an iPhone. You can create your own WiFi network and have the exact display of the TouchMix16 on your device, so I can tweak settings quickly from my pocket or my iPad which is mounted to my mic stand. What an excellent feature and idea.

All around, I truly give this a 9/10.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

My basic use of the Touchmix16 is providing reinforcement for a big-band featuring over twenty musicians. Our music ranges from the 30's to the 80's and beyond. We mic the rhythm section, saxes, reeds, trombones, trumpets, and vocals.
Since we play many different sized venues, my Touchmix allows me to keep the board programmed for a basic set-up and swap out Eq, amps, speakers, and monitors to match the situation. This is a tremendous time-saver during set-up.
I wish that I had had a Touchmix during my 30+ years of teaching sound and lighting since it is so easy to use and explain to those interested in learning sound.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I bought one and it was compact and not hard to figure out. I liked the way that QSC put things together. I use these mixers with a Bose system l1 model 2 and they work fine because I needed more that just 4 inputs that the Bose system has. I liked it so much that I went and bought another one.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I have had this board now for about 9 months and at this point could not be happier. I am a experienced amateur musician who plays live, runs sound , lights and everything in-between and bought this board to simplify setup, reduce weight, and improve our sound. I bought the board early in its release and fought through a couple issues with wireless networking which has been resolved with firmware releases and support during this was decent.

Couple of things to highlight that I think are the main selling points now that i have had a chance to use it and know it capabilities.

        - Recording practices and live... hook up USB drive and record every channel... its that easy.
        - Saved settings from venues - get it dialed in and save it. Next time your there, load it up.
        - Enough Aux mixes to satisfy a band larger then the size of the board would imply.
        - Effects are pretty pretty good and with 4 channels, there is enough to go around for us.
        - Size and weight.. its the size of a laptop, going to this from a full size board is a godsend.
        - Having a touch screen on stage for adjustments and backup if iPad gets broke or other issues is a big deal when it happens. Beware of boards with NO interface other then wireless.
        - Consistent, not sure why but from one venue to the next, sound checks are 1 song affairs now.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I bought the QSC Touchmix mixer in December 2014 from MF and have used it at two gigs so far and at rehearsal. This mixer has so many features built in there are too many to talk about. Some of my favorites are having EQ, adjustable high/low cut filters, limiters, and compression on each channel, as well as, on the aux sends and main L/R outs. I also like the presets for different instruments and the ability to have four effects on each channel. The effects sound good to me and you can change them easily to suit your taste. The low cut filters are adjustable and really clean up the low end and allow the amps to work more efficiently while giving the low end good clean punch.

The compression really keeps everything at a steady level which is really beneficial with backing vocals, bass, and keyboards. Our keyboards seem have variations in volumes between settings. Using compression with a low/medium threshold on them seems to minimize that. I just add back some of the gain that is lost from compressing and it sits really nice in the mix. Another one of my favorite features is the Gain Wizard. When a channel is clipping it shows you which channel and how many clicks to lower the gain for that channel.

I bought this mixer for the ability to mix from the IPad app which has worked pretty well although I have to reset the connection on the mixer every time I use it. We were just about to buy a snake and hire a sound man to run our sound but this is much more convenient and cleaner looking. With all of the features built in it has improved our sound and allows us to save money on the sound man. Everyone has a wireless and can go out front and listen and adjust levels. I keep the IPad mounted on my mic stand and can keep an eye on the gain levels and adjust the monitor levels. I would like to see an iPhone/Android app come out for this so the other band members can adjust their own monitor mixes.

Overall, I'm very happy with this mixer but it does take a little time to figure it out. Once you have the settings the way you want them you can save them and recall later. It eliminates the need to buy all of the outboard processing stuff and puts everything in one compact unit. Every input channel and output is completely adjustable to whatever you want it to be. If I were starting over with buying a PA I would just buy the Touchmix and the QSC powered speakers.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

This is by far the best compact digital mixer I have ever worked with. The people at QSC really know what's going on out there in the musician world and make products very user friendly. I highly recommend this new mixer from QSC to any performer or band. From factory presets, to on-board Advance Effects including reverb, delay, chorus, pitch shift & correct , saving your scenes from different venues, and having enough aux outputs to have your whole band on a personal monitor system with their own effects is just plain awesome! Plus controlling the whole mix from the iPad app is a great feature, especially if you don't have a sound person. Remember its good to invest your money in great quality gear to get a great quality sound and this mixer is beyond a winner for that!

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

We recently installed an outdoor sound system on our corporate campus. I'm a fan of QSC products and after reading about the new Touchmix mixers it was the natural choice. We ended up receiving our Touchmix 16 a couple of weeks before it officially ships and it has exceeded my expectations.

The Touchmix 16 is part of a semi-installed outdoor sound system. It's rack mounted with an 8ch Yamaha amp, 2x sennheiser wirless mics, and a BT receiver. The speakers are permanently mounted QSC AD8T and ADS-52T speakers in the main pavilion and Yamaha VXS5 speakers in the side pavilions.

With the Touchmix we have a mixer/speaker processor/HD recording system that can be operated with an iPad, but - unlike the uber-expensive systems spec'd out by installed sound contractors - does not REQUIRE a tablet or PC for setup and calibration. I can see why all three contractors bidding on the job poo poo'd the Touchmix: it eliminated a ton of expensive rack-mounted gear and was super easy to set up.

I need to give a shout out to QSC's tech writers: the manual is superb. The writing is concise, user-friendly, and humorous. BUT... if you've spent much time with mixers you won't need to read it in order to use the Touchmix - the software is THAT well designed.

In terms of truly useful features, the QSC engineers went berserk. The marketing literature and specs do a great job of describing what the unit can do but don't capture the subtle and useful ways many of the features are implemented.

              Some examples:

If you notice that a channel has gone into clipping you can use the Gain Wizard to get it sorted. The Gain Wizard looks at how long and how often the channel has clipped and tells you how much to turn down the input gain. That's a really nice touch!

You can save presets and apply them to individual input channels... Or to the entire mix (scenes).

When you save a scene you have the option of not saving the fader levels. This lets you recall compression, EQ, Gating, Effects, Routing, etc. and just set the levels.

Setting a time delay between speakers for a more cohesive sound is easy. There's one knob and three readouts: feet, meters, and time. Watch the readout you're most comfortable with and turn the knob. Simple.

You can link mono channels to form a stereo pair... on the input channels and on the Aux outputs.

DCA groups make it easy to raise/lower the level of several channels all at once. DCA groups can apply to individual channels as well as the Aux outputs. I've never used DCA groups before and the interface was so intuitive I grouped four Aux outputs into three groups and renamed them in about 10 minutes... Without the manual.

Channels, Aux outputs and DCA groups can all be renamed. Just click in the name box and start typing.

The folks at QSC obviously put a lot of thought into who would use the mixer, where they would use it, and how. I'm old school when it comes to mixers - I like faders and knobs that I can touch and feel. But after just a few minutes with this mixer I would feel very comfortable mixing a small gig or contemporary church worship service with it.
