I have used these cables for about six months now. At first they did fail after a little use. I then unscrewed the ends and found that one of the wires had pulled free from the end connection. This was clearly because the strain relief prongs on that end had not been wrapped properly around the insulating cable. As a result, any stress on the cable transferred directly to the electrical connection instead of to the strain relief prongs. After re-soldering the wires I pushed the rubber insulation better into position so that the strain relief prongs could do their job, and then squeezed the prongs secuely onto the rubber cable. I have since used them many times with no problem. Nor do I have any issue with the sound of my instrument while using them. If you buy these cables save yourself an untimely headache and check the connections and strain relief right away. It would appear to me that the problems people have had with these cables failing might well be a matter of quality control rather than quality itself.

There is way too much buzz, they kink up faster than a garden hose, and they messed up the jack on my Stratocaster. My dad bought threee and he hates them. Take my advice: if you're going to buy a cheap, no-frills, effective cable, then look some more. Don't make my mistake.

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

Cable was backordered and arrived after about a month. Worth the wait! Right away I could tell this was a fine cable - having paid 4-5 total for the 15' option! I used this cable in sporadic gigs and practice (almost every day) from this past April until August, when I stepped on it while I was plugged in. A quick re-solder, and it was good as new. It lasted another 3 months of regular, but not stressful use until this past week (Nov 5) when more regular gigging took it's toll and broke my solder job. I bought a Hosa 10 ft to replace it before a gig, and was unimpressed by how poorly the Hosa was grounded and caused gnarly noise when plugged into an amp. The Rapco will do the job for the working musician, but I'd say make it a secondary and invest in something a little more professional for a primary cable.

I need to revise a previous review that I made a while back about these cables. These are ok for the money, but don't expect them to last long. I have bought 4 in the past two years, each lasting only a year. They have a lifetime guarantee, but I have spent more money shipping them back to the manufacturer then on the cables themselves. I would honestly not recommend them.

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

If you want a cable that will work, this does. But my concern is the overall quality. The inner conductor wire is thin and so is the shielding. This is something you rarely see when you buy a cable. There is no spec on the wire gauge. The outer housing is also a lower grade casting. If you use this at home and do not plug - unplug often, this is an acceptable cable.

Comments about Rapco Horizon Standard Guitar Cable:

I've been using this brand of cables for over 20 years, & they do a great job connecting stationary gear. I have an identical pair of 3' connecting my studio monitors to my digital mixer, & just bought 4 - 6' cables for my larger set up connecting 2 pairs of monitors. Been using the 3' cables on the same speakers for 10 years, & never had a problem! Not recommending these for guitar because the jack covers unscrew easily. But for connecting effects, drum machines, monitors, mixers connections....you couldn't ask for a better or more affordable cable.
