added 4 new packs of picks to my last order, but these are probably the least-awesome. the grip is nice, better than a plain pick. However, i should've read further to discover that these are nylon - cool if you like that sort of thing, but I find them way too soft for my picking styles. probably good for folk, country, or other styles where softening/deadening the string response is a good thing, just not right for me. On the plus side, they come in a cool pocket-sized box which you can put other things in once you've emptied it, and now I have a dozen grippy folk-picks that I can offer to passing hippies (who seem to love them). I?'ll pass on these in the future.
grip is better than plain nylon picks
I don't play enough nylon picks to judge this fairly
they include a box that you can put other picks in

These picks are the best I have ever used. The textured surface ensures that the picks will not slip, even when playing 16th notes. These picks can take a lot of abuse, and still function perfectly. Very good product indeed.

I've been playing guitar for about 20 years now and I've never been real picky about my picks. :p And then reccently a friend recommended I try these and , wow, I love 'em! I won't say they actually improved my sound, but the amazing grip of these did improve my strumming as I can focus more on rhythm and picking than on adjusting my pick every little whipstitch.

Snarling Dogs have become my favorite picks. The textured grip makes them easier to hang on to, especially when strumming an acoustic. The only problem I have with them is keeping them away from my kid--he "borrows" all of mine! :)

I find this pick to be the best that I've used for acoustic when a lot of strumming is called for. The grip prevents the pick from turning while playing and the beveled edge really helps with down/up strumming. I find myself getting tangled in the strings on the up strum happening less and less and my strumming speed and accuracy has grown since getting the Snarling Dog pick. Highly recommended. Great service and price from MF as always.

I really love this pick! My minister got one in a sample of different picks and gave it to me about a year ago when I was just starting out. At the time, it was too thick for my tastes.
As I've progressed though, I picked it up one evening while playing my electric and loved the way that it felt, whether strumming or picking. It especially raised my game at strumming as I've struggled with that more than anything. The chamfer on the one side made it much easier to do up/down strums and triplets. A bit heavy for acoustic, so I bought some of the 73 mil. picks, which were just right. Great product!

Comments about Snarling Dogs Brain Guitar Picks and Tin Box:

Boy, do these bring back some memories. I recall seeing these way back at age fifteen when I'd just mastered power chords and was still learning my first solo- a simpler time. My bassist's brother brought home a collection of little grey 1.0mm picks with convenient grips and tiny labels which read "BRAIN," all secured in a nice little tin. I wound up stealing one or two from him (he never missed them), and they became my primary picks for the longest time. This was back before I'd started doing any research at all into picks or picking styles, and WAY before I'd built my large collection. At that time, they were the best picks I'd ever used... Do they still hold up now? Well, recently, I purchased a tin of 1.14mm "brain picks" (the orange ones), and I must say, I now know why I liked these picks so much back in the day.

This pick is a fine example of "simplicity is beauty." After trying out countless different picks and picking styles, I never would have thought that I had the closest thing to the "perfect pick" in my hands all those years ago. In the end, all the Tortex, Ultex, Delrin, sharp, insanely thick, and insanely thin picks didn't feel as right in my hand as a standard-shaped nylon pick.

First, and most obvious, they do NOT leave your fingers. No matter what your picking style (and I've tried many myself) this pick will stay right where it is. Back when I was a beginner, this was a BIG deal, and even today it's a welcome feature so I don't have to keep re-gripping.

Next, they've got a pretty comfortable release. They're slick enough to make strumming multiple strings a breeze, but still have a good amount of friction, so I don't lose control while playing solos. I think this is due to their construction, at least in the case of the heavy orange ones. The edge of the pick is beveled into a tiny wedge-shape rather than simply rounded off, which causes the string to slide smoothly until the very end when it reaches the tip. An effective way to balance out the feel.

Then there's the tone. People say nylon produces a brighter tone, and while I think there is SOME truth to that, I find this pick to be mostly neutral. It hasn't got much of a character to its tone when compared to the more compressed sounds of, say, a Tortex. Some may consider it bland, but to me, it allows more room for the pickups, amp and picking style do most of the tone-shaping. Again, simplicity is key here.

There is, however, one major problem with this pick, which I'd forgotten about from the old days... The added grip is achieved by tiny bumps arranged at the top of the pick, which, when I used to play with the pick against the side of my index finger, started to hurt the skin along the nail after a while. Even now that I grip more with my fingertips, it does irritate the skin a little after prolonged sessions.

That, however, is the only problem I've found with these picks. Apart from that, they're by far the best picks I've ever used. Handy in just about any situation, and I would recommend them to anyone who's looking for a no-frills pick that gets the job done.
