Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:
I wanted to love the KPA. I bought in to the hype and picked one up. As a long time Fractal user, I'm not afraid to tweak. So, I tweaked. I played. I tweaked some more. For the most part I will say that the KPA sounded like a very good analog emulation but it suffered in the low midrange - especially on clean tones when pushed hard. The 650hz +\- range just got too fuzzy. It never sounded "bad" but, to me, an essential frequency range just kind of disappeared.
The tonal compromise really was not a big deal. It still sounded killer. The absolute deal killer for me was the lack of a dedicated controller. I play live. I need to change mid-song or more. For such an expensive, well thought out rig from people obviously smarter than me, the lack of a dedicated switcher with some compatible internal routing functionality really begs the question, "Really?" OTOH, the Axe FX controller is light years ahead by recently offering the ability to switch seamlessly between "scenes" in the same preset. Yes. Really.
I know lots of folks love the Kemper and I wish them luck. I'm keeping my Axe and MFC for now.

Comments about Kemper Profiling Amplifier:
This amp is as close as I have heard to tube amp emulation for a solid state device. It still lacks a vibrancy that comes with speaker action, but still a convincing sounding rig. There are tons of user amp profiles available although many don't sound that great, but the ones done right are well worth it. I am not a metal head so I cannot speak of the high gain profiles, but I have found some great plexi and blackface profiles. Some of the boutique profiles don't sound much different that any other to be honest. I am surprised at just how much most tube amps sound alike as interpreted by the Kemper, still nice and warm and full of 2nd order harmonics. You can also profile your own amps, but I have not tried it yet. There are also cabinet profiles too that can be swapped around for the best sounding rigs. I don't use the on board effects, but there seem to be some useful ones if you have none outboard. Listening through the headphone jack sounds horrible, almost made me want to send it back, but when run through my board with good Lexicon reverb, it sounds great. I also use a Black Finger tube compressor in front and a 2ube LPB post for additional tube warmth. I am not sure who to send it to if it breaks down after warranty, as It is made in Germany I believe. A pretty expensive amp to be rendered useless if it cannot be fixed. A tube amp can be serviced anywhere as they are simple circuits. I also cannot speak to how it would do live, although I don't see why it wouldn't sound good through a good PA. I read they are making a rack mounted version, that would be a big plus. Bottom line: a great goto amp for just about any tone one needs for any project.
