The isolators are designed to keep all movement on-axis...to move in the direction of the speaker cone's travel, while resisting movement in other directions. These stands do a great job isolating the sound. Just don't over tighten the bolt locks or they will break. Luckily, the company includes 2 extra bolt locks because they know the metal is soft and flimsy. That at least saves them from hundreds of customers sending them back. I accidently broke two bolt locks when tightening them even though I wasn't twisting excessively.
