Maybe the ratings which I gave to the D'Addario ECB80 strings are deflated, but the reason that I would not give a straight 5.0 score is because there just might be a better set of flatwound bass strings out there. So far, I haven't found that better set.I've had good results with other flatwound strings until I acquired a Rogue AB-304 acoustic electric bass. Not wishing to use the stock roundwound strings which came with the instrument, I decided on using a set of flatwounds only to discover that the E string wouldn't fit through the bridge. I wasn't going to risk ruining the bridge by trying to drill into the bridge to accomodate the .100 size E string and I didn't want to pay a luthier to work on or replace the bridge. The solution was as simple as a different set of strings with narrower E string. The D'Addario ECB80XL strings, so far, have exceeded the quality of other brands that I've used.

I recently brought this at a local music store which this brand and size was the only option he had for flat round I don't think they have a fuller sound or better feel than the roto sound 77 so I order two pack of them instead of keeping this sad excuse for bass string on my instruments. Might be good for some one else but definitely not what I was looking for.

Comments about D'Addario ECB80 XL Chromes Flat Wound Bass Strings:

I bought these after reading hundreds of rave reviews on Talkbass.com. I put them on my 1989 Peavey Fury, plugged it in and then...SHEER HEAVEN!!!!!You couldn't crowbar me away from that bass all night. Now I'm actually a REAL bassist and not a low-end "guitard" with piano strings. I'm gonna put DA flats on all my basses. My wallet also thanks me since I won't be trashing filthy roundwounds every other week. Keep rockin D'Addario!!!!

Comments about D'Addario ECB80 XL Chromes Flat Wound Bass Strings:

Im in a cover band we play a little bit of everything. I first bought a set of these for my Fender P i was told they would give me more of a country sound for our country songs. I am on my 8th set and i have them on all 4 of my basses. They are by far the best strings ive ever played and they are all i will ever play.

Comments about D'Addario ECB80 XL Chromes Flat Wound Bass Strings:

I purchased these strings for my grandson's micro (28.6" scale) bass guitar to replace original roundwounds. The strings are almost identical in diameter to the originals. The E string had to be adapted to fit - normal for short basses. . . No big deal.

The flat polished wounds are easy on younger fingers and eliminate noise. This set gets a nice "round sound" aka a rich, string bass sound. Very pleasing rich sound.

I appreciate the manufacturer includining string tension data for each string. Why don't other manufacturers include this info?

Good quality. Competitive price. Not cheap, cost- wise. You get what you pay for.

Yes! I would purchase strings from this manufacturer without hesitation. They have a long history of making excellent products and have many different products to choose from.

Comments about D'Addario ECB80 XL Chromes Flat Wound Bass Strings:

I was always turned off by flatwounds until I shut up and listened. I was using rounds and half-rounds on my fretless basses for over 30 years, and then just got these a few months ago, WOW, these are better than any half-rounds I ever used! What a difference on my Aria fretless, totally new dynamics that I didn't know were possible. Nothing but compliments on studio and live performances. I'll never use anything else on that bass ever again, and I'm considering using them on one of my fretted basses.

And, as always Musicians Friend provided super fast (free) shipping and great communication.

Remembered the flat wound strings I had on my first P-Bass which I bought from Mel Bay in the late '60s. Replaced the round wound strings that were on a pawnshop bass I recently bought with these flat wound. They are so smooth to play and sound great.

THESE STRINGS ARE EASY ON THE FRETS, THE FRET BOARD AND THE EARS. I JUST LOVE THE WARM SOUND THAT THEY CREATE.
