I put these on my '61 Reissue Hofner Cavern bass and they were just what was needed. The LaBella beatle Bass strings that I had on prior broke at the bridge much too easily and I read that same thing had happened to another reviewer. I will stick with D'Addario XL Chrome Flats for my Hofner from now on and they are priced much better than all other medium scale flats (at a proper gauge) for Hofner basses. I use the new D'Addario NYXL nickel round wounds on my solid body basses and those strings are killer !
Thumbs up!

Went to put the strings on.All was good until I got to the G string. The outside wrapping of the string only extended about 4 inches up from the bridge. The rest of the string from there was too small in diameter and when it got to the nut,it moved around so much it was impossible to get a tone at all.Being a new bass,I thought the instrument was defective.Upon closer inspection of the string,I noticed it was not wrapped correctly in manufacture.Never ever had a bad string,so it was a surprise.Glad it wasn't the guitar itself.Put the old G string back on,no problem.

Comments about D'Addario ECB81M Chromes Flat Wound Electric Bass Strings Light Medium Scale:

I use these strings on most of my basses.
Love the sound - they knock off a little of the top end screechiness of most rounds without sounding dull, and they still retain brightness.

I use them on short scale basses with string through bodies, like the Fender Mustang.
I also have them on some short scale basses with a standard bridge.
On those, there's about a half wrap of the thick part of the string around the tuner
on the E string, but it has never caused any problem for me.

They feel good on my fingers, are reasonably priced, and might provide the sound
    you're looking for.

Comments about D'Addario ECB81M Chromes Flat Wound Electric Bass Strings Light Medium Scale:

Love these strings. Gets rid of the clank of rounds, but still has some round tone to it. As noted in the title of the review, check to make sure you're buying the right scale length. The medium scale is not good for through body stringing(or at least mine). Luckily my bass can be strung either way, so I wasn't tsol.

Comments about D'Addario ECB81M Chromes Flat Wound Electric Bass Strings Light Medium Scale:

I play country music professionally on a Gibson SG Standard bass. These flat wound strings help tone down some of the SG's growl. They seem to get warmer with age. The Chromes on there now are a year old and haven't lost any resonance. In fact, I've decided to keep playing them for a while longer before changing.

Mechanically easy on fret wires, long lasting tonal behavior, capable of being eq'd to meet tough musical tone requirements, soft to the touch so long periods of playing aren't painful, especially to younger or new players still developing calouses.
