I got a big surprise when this stand arrived. I thought I was getting one of those thin, lightweight stands that usually come in a chrome finish. This stand is much sturdier than that -- more like a camera tripod or a guitar stand with its tubular construction. Even the desk is heavier than those lightweight stands. I can see that the height-adjusting screws could be the weak point, as others have said. I bought it for home use and won't be folding it and setting it up repeatedly, so I doubt that will be a problem for me. I am content that it's so sturdy that a passing pet or an inadvertent bump or gust of wind through the window won't knock it over. A huge improvement over the ultra-lightweights, for very little more money. I am really pleased with this unexpectedly hunky music stand.

You get what you pay for, I guess. But, this ain't no bargain. After only half a dozen uses, I've had to replace most of the rivets, it's developed a serious lean due after using it to hold a couple of 30 page music books, and the zipper on the bag came apart. It should be listed as a "disposable" music stand. So, if your kid is in the habit of tearing up his stuff or losing it, this is the way to go. If you're an adult who minds replacing things after moderate use, look elsewhere.

Great stand, great price

By RedletterKJV

from Beech Creek, KY

When I ordered this stand I was afraid that it would be like cheaper ones that I have seen. Luckly I was wrong. This is a very solid and well built product. Only problem is that it doesn't work best with my beginner books. A great product that I would definitely buy again!

Not So Great.

It's not a bad stand but it sucks when you're trying to but alot of sheets on it and the swiviling arms aren't very reliable. But it still does what it's made to do and it's great for people who are just starting out but for the rest of us, get a better one.

You get what you pay for

By Andromaeda

from Dededo, GU

I ordered 2 of these for my choir. One was really good. Sturdy and professional-looking. Although, all the screws make it a little harder to handle than the more expensive kinds. The OTHER one I received was broken! The music holder was completely snapped from the base. I have to get someone to weld it together. So much for quality. I guess for a cheaper price, you do get what you pay for. Although, the one that does work shows that they have a few good ones in the pile.

Broke two in 3 months

By 2_5cy8IAQ

from Somerville, MA

I broke two of these in three months with minimal use (one gig apiece.) They both broke in the same place - the plastic collar that raises and lowers the desk. The first collar cracked in half. The second stripped where the screw goes in. I may have overtightened the first one, but was extremely careful with the second. Lesson - You get what you pay for.

Typical Musician's Friend quality product. Cool black color, sturdy tubular frame. Smooth action when setting up and a great price. What more can I say?

Excellent Deal

By Follower of Christ

from Benbrook, TX

I was very surprised at the quality. It would still be a great deal at twice the price. It easily holds my Praise & Worship Fake Book (432 pages), another great buy from Musician?s Friend. This stand is easy to set up and take down. Very compact. Easily adjusts from a sitting position to a standing position.

This stand hardly costs a thing. It is very sturdy. I would buy it again and it's only ** dallors. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Not for classroom use

By Jmac

from Chicago, IL

I bought 20 of these for my classroom (4th through 8th grade) and they are not for classroom use. The plastic is very thin and if a child inadvertently tightens the stand the slightest bit too much the knob snaps right off. They're probably fine for personal use.

Ask me a question

I ordered two stands for my boys. I was surprised at the sturdy well built construction of the stand and the great MF price. Can go wrong with this stand

Solid, much more than other folding stands.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought the previous value-priced stands from Musician's Friend, and was satisfied. These new tubular stands are much more stable with a wider base, heavier tubing, and overall more solid lock-up. They are a bit bulkier to transport, but easily worth it for the improved quality.

Again, you get what you pay for

By BurgerTime

from Lake Havasu City, AZ

The screw mount to tighten or loosen the adjustable height on the stand is screwed up. There is no hole that goes through the mount to tighten or loosen on the shaft. Other than this the stand seems to be ok but I can't adjust the height now. It is always on the lowest position.

Works for me...

Classic product at a low price. For what it is, this stand works well & I'd buy it again. My only issue is that the wire "page holders" are somewhat awkwardly placed on the main shelf bar, making it difficult/impossible to use them with my wide beginner books. (I just crack the book a bit more to get the pages to stay.) I also wish it was a bit taller so that I could comfortably read music while standing. (I'm 5'9" & have poor eyesight. It's a bit of a strain with the height of this product.)

By Mr_blimp

Cheap price sometimes means cheap quality. I bought 2 of these stands. One of them was great. There was nothing wrong with it, and I would have given this item all tens if it weren't for the poor quality of the screw mounts on the second one. The screw mounts stripped way too easily. I had to design my own way to adjust the height of the second music stand. The stand is great now that I fixed it up. Just be prepared to have to deal with crappy screw mounts if you get one.

If you are planning on keeping a stand at home, get this one. There is no reason to get one of those expensive ones unless you are looking for something that's really really high quality
