OVERVIEW

The ultimate heavy rock weapon.

This budget-priced brute combines a powerful ceramic magnet with a pair of over-wound coils for maximum heaviness. Made to Seymour Duncan specifications, the Detonator is based on the popular Invader, and provides a similar tone, but uses one large ceramic magnet as opposed to three. It's output is very high, measuring at 16.4k DC resistance. Works with traditional and Trembucker-spaced bridges.

it has a double thick ceramic magnet. this way was cheaper production way considering the invader has three magnets in it. all this has been verified by duncan employees.

this is going to get you two types of sound in one pickup. you will get the distortion coils but the hex screws really give it a almost active sort of spectrum, it keeps the bass tight and full, the highs dont scream like regular pickup poles, its darkened in just the right spot for mixes.

Just to clear this up duncan designed is not seymour duncan. Seymour duncans are made in America these are made overseas. Basically you get the duncan name on a generic pickup. This is supposed to be a copy of seymour duncans sh-8 invader pickup which I own in one of my guitars. The invader was deigned as a punk rock pickup and it does that job. This pickups alright but compared to the real invader it is terrible. Save your money get the invader.

Nice Pickup

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

My son brought home a Warlock guitar that was a basket case so I decided to turn it into a father son project. It only had one pickup, bridge position, so I looked around and decided on this pickup because uf the price, figuring we could always change it later. After completely rebuilding the guitar and adding 500k volume and tone pot with a .47 tone cap all I can say is that I'm impressed. My son described the sound as "freaking amazing". With the wiring diagram from Seymour Duncans website installation was a snap. We seem to be able to cover a wide range of sound, but this is not like a PAF, the sound is drivin hard and actually gets better when the volume is turned up. That being said when we roll back on the volume, and roll up on tone we can do some decent cleans. All in all I would say this pickup is a solid value, if you are looking for a hot bridge on a budget this would be a good one.
Easy to configure, went to the SD website and found wiring diagrams for set up
For the money you will spend this thing is awesome
Very good price for what you get

I placed this pickup in my custom guitar and played with it live the following night. It had a nice bright tone and cut through the stage volume very well. The low tones were exceptional as well! This is a big sound for a modest price point. I definitely would recommend this pick up!

I worked as a guitar repair tech for years, and I always mod out my own guitars. I had a cheapo strat we picked up last week and I stuck this in it. HUGE difference! the guitar sings clean or dirty. for the price you just cant go wrong.

        Clear and Loud

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

I absolutely feel the value is amazing and the sound is incredible but there are no ring or screws included.
This pickup is extremely clear and very loud but controllable and full spectrum.
This pickup rocks but sounds great for slower and more delicate riffs or songs like Greendays 'when september ends'. I am still working on the balance with the bill lawrence in the neck but it honestly sounds just as good as that one and that is a fairly famous and expensive one.

sounds great clean or distorted. great for an ac/dc type tone . it just cant be beat for the money . best little hidden treasure i have found!! it may not be as versital as some of my more expensive duncans. but if you do not want to spend 90+ dollars on one , check this one out!!! it has tons of output!!( i found a lower pickup height worked best for my tone.)
very quite , i have used them for 6+ years.
best value in a pickup anywhere. hands down!

This pickup is soo gnarly. I put this pickup in my 1984 dean. When I fired up my 80's Crate amp and played, my mullet almost caught fire! Gnarly! I then thew on my '88 Whitesnake tour T-shirt and hopped in my '78 Pontiac and went to my buddies house and he said it was the most gnarly pickup he ever heard! Far out! We had a show later that night where we covered Motley Crue and Bon Jovi and Poison and we blew the house away thanks to this pickup. Tubular dudes!

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

So I have an abused ESP/LTD PB401 that someone had yanked the P-Rails out of before I found it. In their place they put some G&B Humbuckers, they sounded decent enough, but not quite hot enough to my liking. It was time to do some research, and find something with a little more punch and clarity. After reading the reviews of the Detonators, my mind was set. Even better, the price was well within reason, which meant I could get a couple extra things. As mentioned the PB401 had a very hack wiring job before hand, so I installed the Detonator as volume only with no selector switch. It was a pretty quick & easy install, and well worth it! It definitely has the power now to cut through with a ton of bottom end. Definitely a bargain. I am not sure how these stack up to the actual Invaders, but I am pleased. My son is sold as well. He wants to put one in his Dean Evo. I reccomend it!

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

These things are incredible! VERY hot (you've been warned!!!!)To MY ears, much better sounding than an invader...WAY less muddy...infact, not muddy at ALL. KILLER pickup for metal, hard rock and even puck. Hell, the CLEANS sound good too, though you may need to roll back the volume depending on the amp.I put these (bridge only) on my Ibanez RGR421EXFM, and loved them so much, I swapped out the Rockfield Mafia pup that came with my Michael Kelly Vex NV!That you can get these for $30 is stunning!!!!Coil tappable (features=5 stars)Mine have been perfect from day one (I bought the first one USED!!!! STILL perfect) These are VERY quiet pickups (VERY little noise...almost active levels) (Quality=5 stars)At $50 they would be a steal (Value=5 stars)I see NO downside to these pups. They even LOOK killer...not that it matters.I have NO feedback issues running through 3 VERY hot amps (Bugera 6262, Ibanez TBX150, and a Carvin V3)

Good Pickup, learning how to handle them

          By Dana Schnabel

          from Nor Cal

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

I decided to get back into playing electric guitar so I started out cheap. I bought an Epiphone SG special at a great price used so I decided to upgrade the pickups after I figured out how crappy the stock pickups were. I chose detonators mainly for the price but I read the other reviews on this site.
The guy who installed them love them and said it made the guitar 100% better. When I got the guitar home and started playing, I realized with the crappy old pickups I was playing really sloppy. I think some people are confusing muddy sound with the ambiant harmonics the pickup picks up. Once I started playing cleaner and using more hand mutes I could hear the quality.
I'm sure I'll out grow them but for right now these are great
These are a great value for an entry level guitar that you want to upgrade but not put in a lot of money

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

i wasnt sure what to expect since it has all hex poles in it, i was worried it would be too mechanical sounding or stiff, but once you get the height correct its clear and punches better than any pickup ive had yet, if your height is too high dont expect it to sound good, it will sound trebley and thin. ive tried the JB, JB8, Alternative 8, Custom Sh5, Custom 8 and this Detonantor is about 15% bigger sounding then all of them for rhytmn. for leads its obviously not going to sound like a JB, nothing does, that is one of the best lead pickups ever, just listen to marty from megadeth.
there are alot of contenders for rhytmn and i consider this as one of the best ive owned.
i like it more than i thought i would, its just tight and clear. what more would you need if your going to play metal. it even cleans up and does good medium rock tones.

If you're on a low budget like me and can't afford to shell out for a Seymour Duncan pup, then these are your next best bet and definately worth the price. Installation only took me about 15 minutes. If you can solder and read a set of schematics, then you won't have any problems putting one of these in your axe. Ignore what the tone snobs say, these are definately worth the price.
Made in Korea , Alnico Humbucker for seymour Duncan which is modeled after their Duncan Detonator and has a output of 17.0 or so and is made for the bridge position. Comes with instructions and installment screws.
For a Alnico, foreign made Humbucker, I couldn't find any problems at all with this baby. I installed this in the bridge of a ESP LTD M-15 and immediately the difference was noticeable. Definately a vast improvement over the stock ESP LH-100 Humbucker that was in there. More clarity and sustain, and not to mention loud. I love it !
Best bargain for the money, especially if you play Metal. Blows away those cheaply made Designed by Lace pups.

Comments about Musician's Gear Duncan Performer Detonator Pickup:

I have bought several of these pickups for my guitars and I have liked every one of them. If you are a musician that plays through a combo at home and you're not in a band... this pickup is not for you. Especially if you scoop your mids and turn the distortion all the way up. Now if you play through a full stack and actually use the midrange on your amp... This pickup is loud n proud. Thick low end and searing solos that cut through. A steal at the price!
