K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand

By kenhtch

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

I have performed off of a two tier A-frame stand for the last 15+ years. After it's recent failure I decided to try something with a new and refreshing look as well as simplicity in setting up and breaking down. The K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand definitely fits the bill. It sets up and breaks down extremely quick and I appreciate the way the arms fold and lock into the column. The only drawback there is that I must lower the height settings to do so. All parts are mechanically attached so there is no need to worry about a rogue piece that wanders away when tearing down after a gig. I chose the "pro" version of this stand because of my full size, and rather weighty, Yamaha DGX-505. The stand handles it's size and weight extremely well thanks in part to the extendable arms. The top tier of the "pro" version also has a fixed tilt of 15 degrees - very nice for the higher board. The four legs raise the column off the floor and provide more than ample room for placement of my foot pedals and give the stand a well anchored feel. I also like the subtle inclusion of the built in cable grips that help to maintain a very clean look. Overall, I have been very impressed with the construction of this stand. There has definitely been some thought behind its development. From the moment I opened the box I had no doubt that it could hold up to my needs. The stand has a very solid and secure feel to it. I don't know if it will get me another 15+ years but if first impressions are worth anything it appears promising.

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

This is the best column style keyboard stand on the market. The unique "spider" base allows you to put your pedals under the stand instead of in front of it like the Ultimate Apex, which I own 4 of. The ingenious folding base makes the collapsed stand compact and light and it is impressive to look at. I added a 3rd tier and all 3 keyboards are well supported and the panels are totally visible and accessible.

I strongly recommend this stand above all others available.

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

Just wanted to add to my previous review from 9/23 that having tried the microphone boom attachment at the top of the stand, I would not recommend it. It's too flimsy, and with microphone attached, the boom noticeably vibrates up and down if I'm playing the keyboard with force. A nice afterthought for this stand, but K&M need to redesign the attachment point for the boom so that if provides a more solid base.

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

Really love this stand and it's brilliant functionality. One issue, flimsy plastic mic boom coupler at top, screws over metal bolt that is not secured with any gasket. Unscrew coupler and bolt falls thru trunk of stand. Everything else is efficiently designed, Ultra study, folds and travels easily.

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

I would've liked it in black but it was not a choice, however it's probably the most convenient stand I've had in 30 years and I wasn't going to purchase elsewhere. Musician's friend has the best value and the most professional staff I've ever dealt with. The threaded bolt for the boom stand is not secured in place and falls through the stand, yet a minimal pain. I love the pedal room with the raised legs. Unbelievably sturdy for it's portability. Get one!

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

Perfect for my setup (2 keyboards- Casio Px3s on bottom and Kurzweil PC3). The design is ingenious- everything folds up parallel or into the main column, making it extremely compact for traveling. Each tier can be infinitely adjusted along the length of the column, so I can get exactly the amount of distance I want between upper and lower keyboards. Arms on both tiers can be extended for further adjustment of the overall arrangement. There is plenty of height on the column to adjust two keyboards for standing or sitting. I was a little concerned that the stand might be top-heavy- the PC3, which is on top, weighs substantially more than the Casio board. But that turned out to not be a problem. The top of the column is threaded to accept a mike boom stand. I used this once, but am not sure I like the resulting position of the mike (directly front and in center). The only additional item I would recommend for this stand is a K&M carrying bag. I have one on order

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

This stand is very sturdy and looks great on stage!
I use two larger boards and they are solid on both tiers. It sets up and tears down quickly and is compact to carry. I strongly recommend this stand to serious musicians!
A boom mic fastens easily on the top of the stand. The only issue is when the boom stand is unscrewed (removed), the bolt that holds the boom doesn't have a retaining nut and has fallen inside the stand. It can easily be retrieved but that is annoying. Regardless, this is the best stand I have ever owned.

Comments about K&M Spider Pro Keyboard Stand:

I've owned a lot of keyboard stands and this one is the best column style stand. I have an Apex, but one of the legs became unstable after only 6 months use and the plastic stabilizer on the bottom broke and the design is not pedal friendly as the legs get in the way. The Quiklok double X stand is good, but takes up a lot of space when traveling and I could never get the upper tier to be parallel with the bottom tier. The best stand hands down is the Standtastic stand, but is very cumbersome to transport and assemble, so it sits in my studio. So on to this K&M stand. A lot of the negative comments are unfounded. You don't need a handle. Just pick it up by one of the legs. It balances well and is better to grab than the handle on the Apex. As far as the complaints about a moving mic boom, all you need to do is attach the threaded collar (lock nut if you will) that comes with every mic stand and the boom pretty much locks in its place. I also found that the rubber insulator on the bottom of the boom thread acts like a shock absorber and does not transfer heavy key hitting to your microphone the way the Apex does . And the complaint about the plastic thread - all you have to do is attach the thread "converter" that comes with every new Shure mic holder. The leg design makes this stand quite stable. Plus you can position your pedals where you want them. The comment about the stability of the arms is true, but that movement is more like a yaw shimmy (similar to the movement of DJ scratching). Since I only pound down on the keys, that movement is negligible. The set up is quick and easy. Is it perfect? No stand is. For the frequently gigging musician, this is the best gigging stand out there

The spider pro is very sturdy and stable. They keyboards don't slide on it plus it has many ways to adjust for different keyboard sizes.

The only problem with this it is that there is no handle to carry it easily, you would have to carry it under your arm and hope it doesn't slip out.
