I read a lot of reviews before I bought this pedal, there was a lot of negative reviews so I decided to try it out for myself, well all the music dealers around where I live don't have "The Weapon" yet, so I decided to take the chance and buy one. I honestly really like it, since the distortion is exactly like the distortion I used on my Zoom Multi-Effects pedal, but that fried and I wanted to get the same sound, and I was a huge fan of Donegan's distortion. To be honest with you I wasn't really at all interested in playing any of Disturbed music with this pedal, which was what everyone was complaining about "It doesn't even have the right tone ect ect", I will agree, it's not exactly like his, but he also have so many differents set ups and amps that I doubt any of us have, but besides that, I really like the sounds that I get out of this pedal, since I play in a band I can use both the distortion and sitar effects for everything, I would have given it a straight ten but there was one problem, switching between sounds. If you're playing the sitar effect during a verse and going into the distortion for the chorus, you have to bend over and turn the knob, and you won't have enough time to do it, so it's either you use one or the other. But I think everyone's real complaint was that they could sound like Donegan, which is their problem, you need to find your own sound now someone else's, giving yourself you own unique tone and sound is what make's people like Dimebag Darrel, Kerry King, Jimi Hendrix, Adam Jones, Tom Morello, and Billy Howerdel all great and professional guitarist, using their pedals and sounds are alright, but if you're planing on just playing Disturbed stuff and not using your imagenation into writing your own material, I don't know if this is the right pedal to be gaining that tone. But overall I really like this pedal and I will continue to use it in my set-up.

Having the mix controls on the octave effect is the best, and arguably only truly good thing about this pedal.

The phaser is okay at best, and the fade-in distortion on that setting would be cool, but the distortion sounds awful.

The sitar effect is neat, but like every other setting, it's noisy. In the near decade I've had this pedal, I've never written anything I was actually inclined to use the sitar setting on.

All of the distortion effects suck. No exceptions. They have no low end, and sound obviously digital. Great if you want to put vocals through it and sound like Limbs Bin, but awful for everything else.

It's also the noisiest pedal I've ever owned. Every setting adds a vile hiss to my signal that only aggressive gating can get rid of, except the octaver. The octaver is super noisy combined with ANY other pedal though.

Also, WHY IS THERE NO MASTER MIX, OR GAIN CONTROLS? Seriously. Huge pet peeve. Especially lacking gain controls. The distortions *might* be useful if they weren't all (but one) cranked to max gain.

Also, every effect here can be done significantly better by another pedal.

Seriously, only buy this if you want to make noise music, that's the ONLY thing I've actually found it really useful for.

Another amazing pedal

By Tomh8r

from Fort Myers, Fl

This pedal is a really awesome pedal if you are trying to recreate the sounds of disturbed and other heavy metal/hardcore bands, anything from Sipknot to As Blood Runs Black to Job for a Coyboyhowever, if you are just a fan of disturbed, and you play music like Pramore and Slverstein, than this is not the pedal for you. The odd thing is, that this pedal would probally work for a industrial band as well. This pedal has so many great unique effects that will have you sitting around for hours, just messing with them... overall, a truly great product from a truly great guitarist

Only half of the setting are useful.

By Luke

from Illinois

Pros

  • Decent phaser.
  • Octave effects are good, plus mix control.
  • Sitar effect is interesting.

Cons

  • Distortions all sound about the same.
  • Distortions are all pretty awful.
  • Jck of all trades, master of none.
  • NOISY. Even with an isolated power supply.

Best Uses

    A surplus of cool effects

    By Andrew-9LV37

    from Undisclosed

I found this pedal while browsing on the website. It looked pretty cool so i read some reviews - all of which were good. I soon received it as a gift and the minute I got it, i ripped it open and tried it out. The pedal packs a total of 7 effects. It's got a medium distortion and 2 types of heavy distortion, all of which are quite high quality. It has a distorted auto-wah, which is pretty cool, although i do wish it had a clean wah as well. There's an octave pitch shifter, which you can make some pretty crazy sounds with. Possibly best of all is the phaser/ramp distortion. It starts out as a phaser, but if you hold down the pedal, it gradually raises the volume of a non-phased, distorted guitar track. Releasing the pedal kills the phaser track and leaves you with the distortion. I can definitely see myself use this to pull off all kinds of stuff live that i'd normally only be able to do in the studio. Finally, and most disappointing, was the sitar. It has a fret buzz, which you can barely hear and reverb. The reverb is actually quite useful, but the effect was disappointing overall, because i was expecting something different. All in all, a great pedal, and while pricy, it's actually a good value considering how much you'd have to pay to get all the effects individually.

    Amazing Pedal!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

I love this thing! The effects are great, tone is too. Built like a tank. The only thing that is inconvenient about this pedal is not being able to switch between effects easily, But it's not too often that you need to. My favorite effects are the phase to distortion and the sitar. The multiple distortion types help too, because they let you play different styles of music. Overall, this pedal is freakin' sweet!

    This pedal sucks

I have been messing with a lot of pedal lately and this pedal has far the worst value of all . You can get a digitech rp200 for the same price and it has way more features . If your looking for a good quality distortion pedal this would not be the pedal for you .

    Music as a Weapon

    By Mr. Black

    from Seattle

Such an amazing pedal, awesome distortions, phaser/ramp used in voices is awesome, and you can hold the pedal down to fade into the distortion, cool octave pitch shift effect, and of course the sitar. Lots of controllability in each of the 7 settings, and 2 outputs, 1 amp, and 1 designed for mixer boards. Easy on-stage battery replacement, and it comes with the power supply, a pedalbag, and a Dan Donegan signature pick.

    Best distortion ever

    By Davy Jones

    from Jacksonville, Fl

I think this pedal is underated by some people. All the effects are really awesome, but what really impreses me is the 7th setting, the metal master distortion. This is probably the absolute BEST distortion if you play metal. Its super heavy, yet enough treble to rip through schorching leads that sustain forever. This distortion is worth the price, and more. I've played many metal distortions, the Death Metal, the Metal Zone, Silver dragon, just about all of them. And this one owns them all, hands down.

    Sickness

    By MetalSoldierJ

    from Redding, CA

Most people that don't like "The Weapon" say other pedals have better features, also more. The Weapon pedal is entirely based on Disturbed's sounds, not on other stuff, which is why its called the Weapon, and on the box it says,"Seven unique signature tones from Dan Donegan of Disturbed" Overall, I love this pedal, the price may be more than a lot of pedals, but if you get the pedal, youll understand the price. Also, each tone sounds completely different than the others, this pedal is seriously sick.

This thing, for super heavy chug, cannot be beat, and I have tried every pedal known to man...If yer looking for a monster distortion, with excellent amp and compression modeling, this his it. Sounds best if used without an amp, direct into a PA or mixer.

When I got this about a month ago I plugged it in and it was AWESOME. It sounded cool on a 15 watt amp. It can play lots of tons. It's great even for people who don't like disturbed. This provides killer tone and I think everyone should go buy it now!

I was looking for a different kind of pedal to create some new and inspiring tones. This thing fit the bill perfectly. Great new tones, a blast to play with. I like the sounds better then an RP. My only nits are the limited control over the distortion levels and the price.

This is not a bad pedal at all. I was impressed with the sounds that it has. I don't like the fact that you cant shape the existing sounds or that you are limited in the sounds available like you are.
