The phaser is a guitar effect that dates back to the 1960's, and it's easy to think of it as "been there, done that". So many hit songs from the 1970's have phasing on the guitar.
But I was easily able to dial in some phaser effects with my Hyper Phase that do not sound dated, cliched, or boring.
I have the Hard Wire phaser too, and the Hyper Phase is not just a "little brother" phaser. It has its own sound - warmer, more syrupy than the Hard Wire phaser. Very smooth. The way the sweeping is voiced, it sounds a bit like a cross between phasing and more subtle flanging. Unique, very pleasing and very musical.
One of the coolest features of the Hyper Phase, which is not shown in the photo on this page, and is not present on the Hard Wire phaser, is setting number 4 on the selector switch, which actually is not "Stage D" as shown in the photo here, but "Rise/Fall". This is essentially a sawtooth wave LFO rather than the standard sine wave. What this lets me do is add some movement and shimmer to clean guitar tones, without the repetitive up-down-up-down action of a sine wave LFO. In the rise setting, the phase sweep sounds like it's always going up. In the fall setting, it sounds like it's always going down. It's more musical than a sine wave setting IMO, and it hasn't been done to death. I have even been able to dial in very pleasing, musical, subtle phasing sounds in the rise/fall mode with the speed knob turned up to a high speed, with the depth or the regen knob turned down to more moderate levels. It adds a subtle, fast tremolo-like sound, without sounding wobbly, or like a ray gun noise. It sounds great on arpeggiated clean guitar parts.

I'm interested in going beyond the cliched and done-to-death phasing effects all over hit songs from 40 years ago, or making ray gun or underwater noises. I write songs and I enjoy exploring new yet musical ways to get sounds out of a guitar. I've found this phaser to be a great tool.

The volume is not adjustable so even after trying various positions in my chain it was still far too quiet to be useful. The digitech phaser has seven options, one of which has very little use and the rest are subtle variations of phase type. I wanted this for the different options it offered but after using it for some time I found it mostly sounds compressed and synthetic, I would recommend looking at another pedal.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

I bought this looking for a phaser that had versatility and chose digitech over boss due to price. The pedal is rock solid and does have a wide array of features for a phase pedal, but I have two major gripes with it. First and foremost it is way too quiet, no matter where I place it in my pedal chain. And because there's no volume knob you're stuck with a phase that's almost too quiet even for subtle accents. The other problem is the depth knob which is also incredibly weak. I care barely hear the difference between 0 and 10. All in all, it seems like a decent pedal and perhaps I'll need to try it on someone else's setup to know for sure, but it's not really satisfying me so far.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

I am a dedicated Boss fan who bought the degitech chorus because boss chorus pedal were lacking. I loved the Digitech and tried this for the hell of it. Best investment I may have made. I love this pedal. I gave it a 4 for features because it needs a level knob. When activating the pedal there is a miniscule drop in volume that is barely noticable but mildly annoying. Dont get me wrong, the features and sound of this pedal cannot be beat.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

This pedal is pretty cool, it has great features and it's built to last. The volume does drop and the tone gets a little bit thinned out. You have to take time to play with it and find the best sounds for you. At this price it beats the value of more expensive units. Digitech rocks!

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

If you're after a botique-quality pedal, look elsewhere. If you're after a great value (not THAT Great Value)then this is the one to get. I didn't even realize it had seven modes of phase. They're not all usable, but this will give you more to choose from than a typical one-trick pony phaser. Also on SDOTD, this was 1/3 the cost of the usual phasers, and they're not stereo. Do expect a great phaser with a very adjustable speed, sweep and depth that is very usable in any gig situation. The four and twelve step modes when run in stereo are my favorite.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

AWESOME! this pedal has 7 settings and almost every one of them is different and practical. I use this with my Ibanez GRX abd exclusecly with my biss DS-1 distortion. With the right settings i can tweak some nice rhythm sounds or killer solo sound. if you dont buy this go try it out. I went to the music store to buy a new distortion pedal and a cheap phaser but i was so amazed with this more exspensive 80 dollar phaser i had to buy it.

    digitech hyper phase

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

I use this pedal at shows and also while fooling around in my room, and it is an amazing pedal. It's very easy to create a variety of different tones and sounds with this pedal, and I only have 1 complaint about it. It kills a battery in about half an hour. This kinda pissed me off, but I bought an adapter, and I just wish that the cord for the adapter was longer.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

I would trust digitech with my life! I only buy from them for my pedal needs. The XHP is one of my favorite and most creative pedals; I can get great KoRn sounds with it. It is unbelievably variable and built to last. Only downside is that it eats batteries. BUY AN ADAPTER! Sound quality can't be beaten. Only buy Digitech :)

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

The Hyper Phase is inceredibly dynamic. It can provide a myriad of sounds from a slow, lush chorus to a dramatic flange, to a synth-like programing setting. It is a great pedal for any style of music. Good for stuff like Monty Are I, Anberlin, or even The Killers.

    By Anonymous

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

I absolutely love this pedal. It kicks ass both alone and in various combinations with my DOD Grunge Distortion, Digitech Chorus, Snarling Dogs Wah and Ibanez Echo/Delay. Great for many different types of music, though it may take a bit of fiddling around to figure out which settings sound best in combination with other pedals. It's great for weird sound effects, too. Using high regen, slow speed, and high depth on Stage A you can make it sound like a dropping bomb when used with a heavy distortion. Just pick the low E string and the pedal will do the rest.

    Phaser from Heaven

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

This pedal is THE phaser to get. It has three amazing rising-and-falling settings, three amazing rising-or-falling settings, and a sweet what I like to call "metronomical wah/synth" setting. For even more fun, hook this thing up to a keyboard. It really adds to those too.

Comments about DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase Stereo Phaser Pedal:

Wow..that's all i can say after recieving my Hyper Phase and trying it out. This is by far, THE most versatile phaser of all time. THis baby can produce every phase sound from EVH's "Eruption" to Disturbed's "Voices". 7 different types of phase can be adjusted by 3 knobs and its absolutely amazing. Recommended for anyone thinking about buying the more expensive MXP phase pedals.

Very versitile, good sounding phaser, but is a digital effect. No comparison to an analog phaser. Digital does not have the depth and richness of analog.
