Comments about MXR Booster Mini Effects Pedal:

Good pedal, but doesn't quite suit MY needs. It's pretty much a Micro Amp and an Echoplex preamp, with an added tone knob, in one housing.
First off, it sounds very good and can get VERY loud. Seemed to thicken up my Tele without adding bass – pretty much fattened the tone.
The tone knob is also subtle but effective.
The reason that I did not give it 5 stars is that the internal trim pot controls the "Echoplex" circuit, while external "Volume" knob controls the "Micro Amp." It's also wired so that the Echoplex is first in the signal.
Herein lies my issue – the Echoplex is great - however, the turning up the EP volume too much nearly negates the Micro Amp, so much so that if the EP is turned up more than 50%, you get a substantial increase in volume when the pedal is activated.
If the EP is turned up to 75-100%, the volume increase is very present, even if the Micro Amp volume is turned all the way down to "0". This brings up another issue – turning EP up too much, and the turning down the Micro Amp results in a nasty tone degradation. This goes away when turning up the Micro Amp, however it gets WAY too loud and can cause an explosive volume increase. I found that best combination is turning the EP to +/-25% and then adjusting the Micro Amp volume as needed.
While the idea of two preamps in one housing is a good one, this particular pedal was not well thought out. I think that part of the problem is that it everything is squished into a "micro pedal" housing. Using a standard sized MXR housing and placing BOTH volumes AND tone EXTERNALLY would have been a much more practical and user-friendly design. Pedal makers have come a long way with micro pedals, but there is simply too much circuitry crammed into the housing. I think that MXR meant this to be a "set and forget" type of pedal, which is fine, but the addition a micro switch so that the player could decide which of the two preamps comes first in the chain would be tremendous help.

Comments about MXR Booster Mini Effects Pedal:

I think this pedal will rank as one of MXR's best ever. Perfect for boosting a lead with the added ability to also change tone as well, or to thicken a clean sound. I love the thing.....
