I picked this 5 string up as a 2nd bass. For the price you get a ton for your money. Be prepared to do a little set-up yourself. Has a wide neck so it is great for players that like to switch between a pick and fingers. If you have small hands you might want to look at another 5 sting option.Big - heavy - plenty of balls. I run mine through a GK cabinet and head and this bass is quickly becoming my #1. Great for beginners or someone that wants to test drive a 5 string.

Sounds good, plays bad

By thought_could_get_mm_sound_cheap

Sounds nice but neck is a funny shape. After 1 hour of playing my left hand is a wreck. Also, two frets popped up after six months. Don't waste your money.

No surprises here

By B7WIM0amq

Make no mistake about it, you get what you pay for. Mine came with the intonation way off and fret buzz everywhere, setup quite poorly. Companies cut corners because they think beginners won't know the difference, maybe they're right, I don't know, but I'm not a beginner and it wasn't right for me.

Bdass bass

I've been playing bass for several years and when it came time to add a 5-string to my arsenal, this one caught my eye right away. I'm thoroughly pleased with this bass and the price makes you wonder how you could afford not to buy it.

i dont care what the others say its a sweet bass

By whiteroom101

from pittsburgh, PA

This bass is great. It has a great sound for jazz, rock, and blues but if you dont want to play that it would still adapt to the genre. All of the bad reviews are due to bad luck they had with the bass IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BASS. And you CAN slap on this bass right no matter if you are doing it right or wrong.

Amazing for the price!

I play in a punk/ska band, and a metal band, and am also doing some jazz stuff with my school, and I can coax sounds that fit all of those genres out of this guy.It also plays REALLY well. The action is perfect, I have absolutely NO fret buzz, and the neck is ridiculously smooth. It's also quite slap-able, but I'm more of a fingerstyle player, so the pickup suits my plucking hand placement well.

A Great Bass Even At Twice the Price

By Josh Justus

from Tulsa, OK

See all my reviews

I just bought the MM3 5-string bass and I can say without a doubt it is the best value I have found in a long, long time. I don't really have any complaints about it. I knew from reading reviews that I could anticipate having it setup and the frets filed on the sides, but the one I recieved doesn't need more work than I can do myself. The OLP quality control appears to be better than a lot of major brands i.e. Gibson/Epiphone. If you are thinking about buying this bass but are worried about the name on the headstock, don't be. This is a quality instrument at a price that CAN'T be beaten.

Great starter 5-string bass

By Bazguitarman

from East Tennessee

See all my reviews

I bought this bass for my son. It`s his first bass guitar so we didn`t want to spend tons of money. Instead I looked for a great starter bass that would provide a good foundation for modifications as he progressed musically. For the low cost, the OLP 5-string was a pleasant suprise. The fit and finish are quite good. The neck pocket was a snug fit. The hardware is hardy. The finish was well applied although not a high grade mirror finish. The black gloss finish and black hardware look fantastic with the black pearloid pickguard. The bass looks like a more expensive instrument than what it is. The neck is comfortable for a five string and has a nice feeling satin finish. The fret work is acceptable at this price level, but will definitaly require a fret level and polish to optimize playability and cut down on fret buzz. All the frets were well seated with no exposed or sharp ends.I can`t comment on the quality and tone of the pickup, as we have not bought a bass amp yet. The bass itself is very resonant and lively sounding. It has a huge sounding low end, but is present at the same time. The natural tone will be well served when we install a better pickup down the road.Over all I am quite pleased with the OLP 5-string bass. It looks good, plays fairly well and will make a great starting instrument that will grow with my son. With a fret level and polish and a good after market pickup it should serve him well for a few years.I definitaly recommend this bass for any young or starting players who want high quality for a very little amount of $$$`s. Parents should pay close attention to this review. This is an instrument that will grow with your child as he or she improves. A good investment to keep you from having to buy another bass in the immediate future.

Great bass, cheap price

By Michael0347

from Tennessee

When I got it, it took me a while to wear the neck in, but once it was all broken in it was the greatest five string I've ever played next to expensive Warwicks. It also can be used with many genres. Great bass if you're a kid with little money.

I own a black 5-string, the fit and finish is outstanding. For the price, no one else comes close! Sounds great, solid as a rock!

this kicks so much tail

By guitarguy07

from Sparks, NV

Now I'm not claiming to be an expert on bass guitars, because I am definitely not. I play the guitar but I wanted to get a beginner bass to help with my recordings and to just play around with. When I got this bass I couldn't have been happier. I love the sound of the fifth string. I'm having so much fun with this thing. I gave it all 10s on the review because I think that this bass is pretty much the best it can be for the money. This bass is so amazing, just get it and see for yourself.

Great Bass

By Paul -p-1DD

from Aalborg, Denmark

Olp MM3 5 string-bass. Ive been playing in different bands for nearly 30 years, on a number off good basses such as Ibanez, Steinberger, Aria SB 1000, Fender P bass and the danish handcrafted Mrch, but considering the prize, this is really a workhorse. Ive replaced the machine heads with Schaller and use RotoSound strings, and I must say that its worth the money. I use it through a Behringer stack, and further through JBL MPro PA gear in clubs and dancehalls, and on my latest recording session, it delivers a thick, punchy sound, clean without hum or rattle, with a good sustain, tho` I could use a little more output from the pickup, but its not really a problem, and the neck is, to me, very playable. The finish is nice to look at ( nature body and headstock ), and the balance is good, the weight is a little heavy, use a good strap and its not a problem. In all, a great tool.

Great value!

By BassAce-IGzwO

from Chicago

What attracted me to this bass was the way the neck felt. Smooth satin finish...not glossy, and perfect diameter. It plays well, and yes, you CAN slap on it. It's all in your technique. The only suggestion would be to swap out the pickups. They sound decent at low volumes, but through loud amps, they can be a bit noisey.

Nice bass

By Big Block Ross

from Maplewood, Mn

I bought this bass as a back up for my 6 string, thinking a inexpensive bass would fit the bill. I looked at many different brands in my area, I settled on the OLP MM3. I tested one at the local music store and liked what I heard, only it had a dead string. I ordered the bass and also bought some new strings, just in case. Upon delivery and set up, this bass sounds wonderful. It sits in the mix perfectly. It totally exceeded all expectations

OLP MM3 5-String Bass

By UnholyMarmotPie

I've had this bass for almost a year, and the only problem I've had with it was that one of the strap pins fell out once, but that was fixed easily. Overall, it's a very good 5-string for the money.

Waste of Money

By Basser-KPYpW

See all my reviews

Even though its my first bass and i am supposed to have some attachment to it, it sucks to much for me to get connected. the tuning machines break very easily, and the pick ups suck. the knobs that you attach the strap to come out and because you have to screw them in it gets looser every time.

Overall, a good bass

By Death Drummer 19

from Gillette, WY

See all my reviews

This is the first bass I have ever owned, and it's a good bass. The maple fretboard plays awesome, and the sound isn't too bad. It has both the mellow, fat tones, and it can also put out the punchy ones. My only complaint deals with the tone pots. They have come loose on me and the solder has broken inside the body. It's easy to fix though... good guitar.
