All the Rogue LX400 Pro bass needs to live up to the hype Musician's Friend has put on it is a little quality control. The problems I have had thus far should have been caught before it ever left a factory or warehouse. I had to immediately replace the nut because the one on the bass was grooved all the way to the fretboard. NO amount of setup was going to correct that. It should have never left the factory/warehouse in that condition. The strings weren't very good, but I knew that from the reviews already written. I paid $** to replace the nut and new strings were $** (I had ordered strings with the bass). This was cheaper than sending the thing back for repair and having to wait for it to return. Now for the up-side. This bass has a sleek style to it and looks really good. The paint is even and polished. The active electronics seem to work fine and I make sure I unplug my bass to lengthen the life of the battery. The sound is awesome with a nice deep rumble and crisp highs. The neck is thin enough to allow my hand to easily navigate the freboard. The bass itself is lightweight and easy to maneuver. Overall I am happy with the Rogue LX400 Pro and think it will fit my needs for a while. I do hope Musician's Friend will look at the quality control aspect of their operation. It will result in a much higher score on their products and much more satisfied customers.

The Rogue LX400 Pro is a very nice looking Bass,Has a great tone, good electronics but has the worst setup I have ever seen on any is aparent that the manufacturer spent absolutley no effort doing any nut or fret work on these guitars which I suppose that contributes to the low price. I have seen build it yourself kit guitars with better setups, seriously!the nut slot depth is not deep enough and does not follow the contour of the fretboard and the frets are high and low all the way down the board. However once I replaced the Graphite nut with a bone nut and leveled the frets it turned out to be a very nice playing bass, with the labror I have in this bass I would not take less than $350.00 and is probably one of my favorite bass guitars now. If you buy one of these Bass guitars you will want to go ahead and buy some nut files and fret files.Great bass for learning how to do setup work which in the end should produce a fine playing instrument.

Amazing Bass for the Price

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is one amazing bass guitar. This is my 4th bass guitar and of all of mine it is my second favorite to my gibson thunderbird active bass. this one beats out my fender jazz bass. the quality of it is amazing for the price. it has an amazing feel to it. I would advise any bassist to get this, beginner, medium, or advanced. I have never seen this good of a deal.

Nice sound, with blem

I bought this bass via Musiciansfriend, and it arrived with a blem on the back. My first impressions where:1: The pickups are too powerfull when the neck & strings adjusted correctly, causing distortion. So I moved the pickups further away from the strings.2: The pickup coils started to rust (oxidate) after a few weeks3: The batterydoor on the back started to open by itself, and once it did that and caught my belt, and it broke in 4 weeks after bought.4: The Bass arrived with blem. The back of the paint was scratched. I was too late to bring it back (out of warranty) since I came to the US to pick up this bass after 3 months. But the sound and finish is awesome! This bass has a 'black box' inside to shape the sound, and get done with unwanted frquencies.Plays very good as well, though the strings are too wobbing (too loose)

The Best bass for under

I bought this bass for my self for x-miss. and I love it. I am dying with this bass. Excellent slap and funk tone, and with smooth jazz tone. even with the eq on ur amp on 0, its a tone to die for. when i record, i use every style of playing u can think of, slaping on all of the strings, picking, fingering, plucking, finger taping, flowing lines, i mean every thang. this bass fills every thang i need expt for one, a tone nob. but i took out the blend and put a three way switch, put a tone knob. its awesome!!!

Far beyond my expectations

By Joel Farren

I got this thinking it wouldn't impress me too much. But it blew me away. I love everything about it. The sound, the feel, all of it. It went way beyond anything I could have expected. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to play a great bass but doesn't have a lot of cash.

Awesome Bass, Killer Price

Unless you happen to get a bad one from the factory, you cannot go wrong with this bass. The hardware and string-through body alone is worth it.

I got this bass in the black and it looks incredible. Right out of the box it played pretty good but I knew it needed some set up. I adjusted the truss rod and string saddles and it played great. I also replaced the strings with DR strings because the strings that come with it are so terrible, they are not even worth keeping as spares. Has cut out tuners so only takes me 10 minutes to string it. Great for a first bass, nice sound and fairly light.

Great sound, amazing playability, battery sucks

Amazing! :)

By bassistofbass

This is the first bass i've bought and it is a really good bass. i heard a comment about the frets being different hights but on mine they are all perfect it. it has a 4 tone controlls which of a great veriety of tone you can choose. It is better then even some basses i've played that are even more expensive. For a more expirienced bassist i recomend an esp ltd standard d series, i played one a few times and it's really good but for a more beginner bassist this is a really good bass.

a friggin STEAL

By a7xshredder

from Lansing, MI

What can I say. This bass is absolutely incredible. I've played Fenders, Warwicks and everything in between, so I know what I'm saying here. I love the quilted maple top, the sturdy tuners and bridge, the comfortable neck, PERFECT action, great active pickups, and the incredible sustain. I would've paid at least $400 for this beast. Thanks to MF for making this bass so affordable. Of course, nothing is perfect though, as I have one complaint. I unscrewed the back plate covering the electronics to have a look around, and when I screw it back on, it won't let me do it very tight so it vibrates when I play, but it's really no big deal. Do yourself a HUGE favor and go buy this bass!!!

Amazing Value

An amazing bass for the price. I'm new to the music world having only played for 3 months. I was looking for an instrument that would be a sound investment and wouldn't break the bank. I found it in this bass, it is a beautiful instrument and sounds wonderful!

It exceeded my expectations, considering the cost

I found it very easy to play. The neck is fit, trim and narrow enough to be fast and fluid. The adjustable bridge, neck and tailpiece allow for varying string gauges without fret buzz. The active electronics coupled with the pick-up array allow for a very wide variety of playing tones and sounds. 25 years ago, I had a Rickenbacker 4001, and this little Rogue bass rivals the sounds I would get with it. In fact, with the active pick-ups and the positioning of them, I have a wider variety of sounds to choose from. Considering the price of the bass, it is a very good deal. The craftsmanship and the features are found in basses costing three times as much.

tone freaks beware

Alright tone freaks beware that you are about to be amazed! The item Rouge Lx400 pro 4- string bass is all to be dreamed over. But it is affordible. The pros are: fast silky smooth neck, lightweight, beutiful (liquid sunset), tone shaping capabilities are great, smooth body, good length, passive choice, great pickups, pretty good tuners (still getting sperzels), sustain, great all fret access, no fret buzz, nice action, intonation minorly tweaking neaded, nice inlays, TRANSFERS lows, mids, and highs amazingly, tone zone neck pickup thumb rest, balanced overall weight, and does me! Cons could be better finish to show quilted maple and lastly strings are not of good quilty.

Best bass I've ever had

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I'll admit, I'm pretty picky when it comes to my bass. I have some pretty high standards, and this blew them all away. I absolutely love it, it's light, has an amazing tone, and I love that it can be strung through the bridge. Out of all my basses, this is definately my favourite! It's perfect for aspiring musicians of all ages and skills.

Well made

My bass came with a few dents and a bad D string but other than that it is a great Bass. I showed it to the band director and he was impressed by the price and features of it.

nice sounding bass.....dont like the inlays

By bass bot

from Twin Falls, ID

This bass is very nice dont get me wrong on that but the inlays need to be WHITE and IN THE MIDDLE this bass just would look a bajillion times better like that. The pickups on it are the best I've heard the humbucker has a nice crisp tone and the single coil has a nice bassy tone. And one more thing the hardware needs to be black it would match a lot better. overall a deffinate need for any or old

Rogue LX400 Pro 4-String Electric Bass

I just bought this bass on Sunday, and it came today (thursday). I bought this bass as a backup for another bass of mine. I think I'll use this bass primarily now. The other bass of mine (list $500, by the way) doesn't even compare to the lows dished out by this one, even through the same amp. The feature are amazing, with a treble and bass cut/boost, and active/passive pickups. I can't belive Rouge is selling these things so cheap. The only flaw is that the factory setup is really bad, and the strings are el cheapo. Do yourself a favor and buy new strings when you order this bass, particularly Ernie Balls :)

Good for the money!

I've had my rogue LX400 Pro for 2 years now, I got the red one on sale for $150 from here. All in all a great buy, however there are some issues, first the tone pots are all most worthless and as others have said the strings are no good. One of the tuners popped a washer and now slips, $78 for new tuners. But the tone is very good for the money, this is not a great bass but it's not going to be for the price, you get what you pay for, sometimes you get lucky! Is it a good buy? You bet, try one!

I Now Own 2 Of these Bad-A**, Basses, and I have never had any trouble from either one ,that I have heard other people have had with theirs, It must have gotten by Q-Control that day or something... All I know is what I have in front of me! First let me say that the finish on both instruments is FLAWLESS! incredible wood grain, smooth & even clear, everything was in place, and functioned properly, even inside the control cavity was properly shielded and grounded with paint and foil, and the inlays were dynamite! The Headstock-Logo was made from Abalone!!! W O W! Keep up the good work guys!!!I will be buying more Soon! Thank You for Your Time, Big John.

Pretty Nice!!!

Ok, so I'm a guitar player of 10 years and I deceided to pickup Bass. I saw this one and read the reviews so I had to try it instead of my original plan of getting a Fender. I was really turned on by the Active/Passive pickups, tone controls and of course the beautiful finish (Liquid Sunset!). When I got it in I was blow away. For a starter Bass, this cannot be beat! About the only thing that really could have been of better quality is the bridge, but then it is entry level equipment. I'm not real sure how Pro Bass player would feel, but for a starter Bass, WOW!!! Oh yeah, setup out of the box was Horrible!! thats why I rated quality at a 4. After I set it up, Nice!!!
