This ride is great! It's VERY versatile. The ping is very cutting, though it's fairly comparable to a medium ride from behind the kit. You can crash it in theory if you hit it just right, and when you do it cuts through loudly with a very bright tone. It can be used quietly or for loud situations. It's really responsive, and pretty heavy. The bell, unlike the vintage crash ride that I was using, has a very unique characteristic that is set apart from the rest of the cymbal. If you are looking for darker sounds, this cymbal is NOT for you, but I love it so much, I think that I'm going to stick with it for a very long time (Which is rare for me, as I'm very picky!) Wonderful cymbal!

This is a very heavy ride with too much ping and not enough wash. I was running it on my 4 piece Ludwig jazz kit, and it didn't match well at all. If you're someone who hits hard, you cannot break this cymbal. Otherwise there are better rides out there.

Great Cymbal

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal has an amazing ping sound at a medium loud volume. Great for recording or live. When crashing the ping still shows up but it still sounds better than the Sweet Ride in my opinion.

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

Overall, this is the BEST ride cymbals I've ever heard. I bought it without hearing it only because I heard such great comments about it. I was very surprised because I had just jumped from Sabian AA to A. Zildjian. I did not expect it to sound as good as it does. The bell REALLY cuts. It is extremely versatile. I've played straight metal and light jazz with it and it fit perfectly with both applications.

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

I play this ride everyday at school on our rock/pep-band set, and it is soooooooo nice!!!! It has a very good "ping" to it, and unlike a lot of rides, it is very musical. It doesn't sound like some random off tune note, but it actually sounds..... well musical!!! It has a lot of overtones but I like that in a ride. It's not good as a crash AT ALL. One of the other guys on here said it was like a crash, don't listen to him, it's a terrible crash. Then again it's a ride, and a great one at that!!!!

Very loud ping and insane bell

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

This ride really cuts through, however if you are playing in your bedroom without a band you might not notice. All of the reviewers that state that the ping isn't that loud probably have not heard it live from the audience. Its like a sledge hammer driving a railroad spike. The surrounding music has to be loud enough to cover the wash, then you really hear the ping. They also sound really piercing recorded as well, just listen to Steve Smith of Journey on their Frontiers album. The ping is so loud it almost sounds like you are playing the bell. The drawback of this cymbal is the lack of crashing ability, it really sounds more gong-like unless you shoulder crash just right. If you need a pingy ride that can be crashed I would go with a medium ride. The Ping ride is basically a medium ride with extra bow on the very edge to highten the ping. That extra bow ruins the crash sound somewhat.

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

My old ride was driving me mad with washing out, and I've played on a Ping Ride before,so I bought a 22". The name explaines it. No more wash - no matter how hard you crash it! Very good bell, and you can get so many different sounds out of the body. Very clear stick definition all around and a great overall cymbal. Rock on, Zildjian!!

It's what you need....

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

It's hard to shop for cymbals online but I did some research on the Zildjian site before I committed to this. It's not shiny like the picture so I gave the "features" 4.0. Other than that, this is probably one of the best ride cymbals you can buy. I have the 22" and it barely moves when you hit it, to me that's the sign of a good ride. It lives up to it's name as a "ping" ride w/little wash (but who hears the wash anyway when you're backing up a band w/a quality ride cymbal?). I spent a ton of money on this but when you think about what it takes to make something sound like this you figure that it's worth it. I'm glad that I took a chance on this. I'm clenching my jaw saying this... but "this is worth the money".

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

I absolutely LOVE my Zildjian Ping Ride. This cymbal is so dynamic, I swear I can get at least a dozen different sounds out of it.

It has great projection, long sustain and I love the clangy loudness of the bell.

Fantastic cymbal. Probably the only ride cymbal you will ever need in your lifetime, no matter what styles you play.

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

I have this ride in brilliant finish 20" and have had it for a year and a half and the only reason I have it because I got a good deal on some cymbals and this was just one of them but I am preety happy with it the bell is very nice and the ride its self has a little bit more overtone then I like but not much. I would recommend it, not bad for metal.

Comments about Zildjian A Series Ping Ride Cymbal:

I've been looking for that perfect ride and here it is. This ride has great ping to it and accents perfectly with either a slow jam or heavy rock. I've always wanted a ride that keeps the sound just above the music level. And this does it all.

I bought this Ride around 1991 and it was already at least 6-10 years old. I've heard from many a sound man that it's easily the best Ride they have ever heard.
