When you're looking for a pedal backed by the expertise of a truly talented builder, Mad Professor effects pedals are ready to deliver. These pedals are handmade to the exacting specifications of Bjorn Juhl of BJFE. Having built pedals as far back as 1981, Bjorn opened up an amp repair shop in 1999 and quickly earned a reputation for taking on the most challenging repair jobs that were too daunting for most repairmen to consider.  That tinkering experience led him to begin seriously building effects units in 2000, and the quality of his pedals made them so popular that a new company, Mad Professor, was formed in 2002 to make his designs more accessible to guitarists.

The company operates out of Finland, so it's no surprise that they're popular with Finnish metal legends Children of Bodom. The Little Green Wonder overdrive is a frequent tool for guitarist Alexi Laiho, and Janne Wirman uses a variety of Mad Professor pedals on the keyboard. Some of Children of Bodom's staple Mad Professor effects include the Blueberry bass overdrive, Deep Blue delay, Mighty Red distortion and Electric Blue chorus pedals.

Notice a theme? Mad Professor uses a rainbow of colors to designate their effects pedals, which is a pretty good reflection of the spectrum of sounds they allow you to create. To take advantage of Bjorn Juhl's excellent designs without breaking the bank, check out the factory series of pedals. If you're looking for something completely artisan-built, the Mad Professor hand-wired series will accommodate.

Like the BJFE pedals they're based on, Mad Professor's stompboxes are great for stacking up. The overdrive pedals are especially dynamic, with EQ and distortion characteristics that change with the guitar input level. One great example is the Sweet Honey overdrive, which can go from a tight, clear tone at lower volumes but cranking up the dial will give you a grittier overdrive sound.

No matter what sort of tone you're looking for, whether you want to capture the same effects as the Children of Bodom or create your own boutique pedal signature sound, Mad Professor is a solid choice. From the affordably amazing factory series to the artisanal hand-wired line, every Mad Professor pedal can be counted on to put out great sound at any volume.
