OVERVIEW

Reminiscent of banjos from a period when larger rims were more prevalent.

The Americana is the first 5-string banjo from Deering to be fitted with their new Grand 12 rim, which gives the banjo a stronger bass response and a much warmer tone. The fullness and warmth of the larger rim is further enhanced by the addition of a 12 Renaissance head which beautifully complements the banjo both visually and sonically.

Continuing the long-standing Goodtime philosophy of offering the best value American-made banjos available, the Americana is the lowest-priced 12 model on the market today and retains the distinctive natural blonde Goodtime aesthetics. In keeping with the rest of the Goodtime line, this banjo also features guitar-style tuners, a rock maple neck, nickel-plated hardware, and hardwood inlays.

Played with an old-time style technique, the Americana is reminiscent of banjos from a period when larger rims were more prevalent making the 12 a great setup for playing old-time music. A traditional 11 banjo with a frosted top head has a far brighter sound and will œcut more. Since the combination of the Grand 12 rim and the Renaissance head makes for a wonderfully laid back sound in comparison, the Americana lends itself perfectly for musicians looking to use the banjo to back up a vocalist or another instrument, instead of playing the a lead instrument role.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Americana Banjo:

Hi, this is TJ again. In my just issued comments, I mistakenly quoted the Goodtime Americana banjo head tightening tool as 9/64". My apologies ! That should have been 9/32". My only relief is that there was only one perfect person and He died for all of us !!!!!
    Thanks for understanding !

Comments about Deering Goodtime Americana Banjo:

If I took the time to mention all the good stuff about the Goodtime Americana banjo, the reading would eat into a good part of yours and my precious playing time. I would vigorously recommend, no matter what, that you do not settle for any other than a 1 1/4" neck with at the nut ! The difference is quite measurable. ( Please forgive the pun. )
The only down side I might mention is two fold.
The instrument does not come with "a supplied" head tightening tool. The specs list the proper fit as being 9/64," but I would wager that their measurement was taken before chroming. After trying a number of 9/64" sockets, as well as a nut driver or two, I had to choose the one that fit with the least resistance.
This, however, is not even close to a reason not to get one of these outstanding instruments for yourself ! Don't miss out on what could be the best deal of your musical experience.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Americana Banjo:

I play claw hammer mostly. I love the softer, more mellow tone of the renaissance head. Its a beautiful instrument. It looks great and it sounds even better. I have no complaints. I am happy I purchased it.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Americana Banjo:

This is my favorite banjo. It has a nice tone and is fine looking instrument. I keep it hanging on the wall where it's readily accessible for picking. Excellent for clawhammer style picking.

Comments about Deering Goodtime Americana Banjo:

I traded up to the Goodtime Americana banjo a year ago and I am amazed at how great this banjo sounds, particularly in the old-time music genre! The dealer I bought mine from had special ordered Americanas with a scoop on the neck to really get the tone that clawhammer banjo players love. The 12" pot and renaissance head gives it an overall warmer and deeper tone, definitely not for bluegrass. I have been in sessions where the Americana has just as good (if not better) tone than banjos twice the price. I also enjoy the feel of the rock maple neck as it is easy to fret and play. I recently had a custom setup on it where I had spikes installed at frets 7, 9, and 10 as well as new planetary tuners.

If you are on a budget yet want to buy an american-made banjo, you can do no better than the Goodtime Americana.
