Action too high but buzzes if the bridge is shortened. Wont play in tune up the neck all strings are flat. I may have gotten a bad neck set I have contacted Mitchel the manufacturer to see what they say. I would like to have this replaced if I did receive a badly built one. If not I will stand by not recommending it to anyone.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

I've had this for a while, and nearly traded it off a few times; but just like it more every time I pick it up. First off, it has a somewhat subdued tone and I thought (at first) it was "dull", comparing it to other "sparkly" sounding ukes. This Bari has soul. This Bari has a thick neck that is easy to grip, and is built to last. This Bari sounds great with a set of D'addario EJ88Bs; a match made in heaven. Yeah, I wish Mitchell would build one with a good pickup; however, I am gonna keep it.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

I bought this baritone uke so that I could return to playing and singing folk music that I sang in the past in an amateur but consistent manner. My left hand suffered some nerve damage in an auto accident over 20 years ago and has become a little arthritic as time has passed. I do not play my 6 string acoustic guitar as freely as I once could. This baritone uke has a good sound and is not too high pitched like a tenor uke. I am enjoying it very much.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

To learn something new at my age of 72 can be a challenge, however as it is the largest of the Ukuleles it fits my fingers so much better. Having only 4 strings to play as apposed to the 6 on a guitar is also not as daunting. I enjoy its mellow sound. One can play any song one wishes (providing one puts the practice in) I play for my own enjoyment. The Mitchell Baritone is a very good looking instrument with lovely inlay around center and outer edge.

Never had a baritone and thought the deeper tone would be better to sing to than c6 ukuleles, Mistakenly
purchased gcea strings thinking tuning accordingly would simply make this a deeper sounding standard uke, By the time you get the cgea strings tuned you end up with a giant tenor (already have a tenor), With bari strings dgbe back on I found most songs you can just use standard c6 chords and it works (not all but many) and bari chords aren't all that hard to learn, It's been about a month and I can't put this thing down, Sounds like a guitar much more intimate (small) Easy to play.............LOVE THIS THING!

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

Tone Wood (Spruce) and Finish are heavy which reduces the volume. Seems too robust for a musical instrument. As with most new instruments, the action seems a little high ( maybe I will have that adjusted after I play the Ukulele a little longer) Other than that it is a beautiful Instrument and plays easily. Sound is warm and a little muted.

Tone is quite good. The volume is loud enough to play with other uke's but is not as loud as a nylon string guitar. Finish on mine was flawless. It would be a good buy at it's standard price, but was an excellent deal on sale for almost 50% off.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

This is the standard by witch I judge all my other Ukes bought from MF. The finish is immaculate. The neck is perfect. Inlays are perfect. I thought it was a high priced Martin at first, had to look twice at the logo.
I have a Kala and Luna and Cordoba, they are not flawless. One other brand guitar I own compares in finish and it cost double. I can't prop myself up in bed and play the full size guitar like this baritone Mitchell and be comfortable.
Stopped by GC and checked out their Mitchell off the wall and it is just as good, no flaws. To me, it looks like the guitars that were made with classic looks in previous years.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

There aren't many options in baritone ukes so I decided to give this one a try. I was immediately impressed at the build quality, though it is a little over-built and the poly finish is thicker than it needs to be. The action was also a bit high at the bridge but that was easy to adjust. Oh, and I have to mention that it came with the absolute worst strings I've ever seen. The wound pair had way too much tension and the plain pair was dull and lifeless. They basically made the uke sound like garbage, but I was lucky because for no apparent reason one of them just snapped while sitting unattended and I was forced to swap them for a set of D'Addario EJ88B's. What a difference that made! All of a sudden it sounded like a real instrument instead of a cheap toy and I've been enjoying it ever since.

I had to write a second review now that I've had this uke for about 2 months. I bought it when MF had it on sale the last time and found that the workmanship and finish is way better than both my Alvarez guitar and tenor uke. It feels so much more like a high-quality instrument than the toy-like feel of most ukes. I've strung it using D'Addario "warm" low G tenor strings and it sounds great. Warmer and richer than my tenor, (which I've strung with D'Addario "bright" low G tennor strings).

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

I guess I'm an experienced novice. I've played the guitar forever, mostly for my own enjoyment but I'm fairly new to the uke. This little instrument is beautiful and seems to be of high quality...despite the price. The only flaw I have found is that the knot in the D string had pulled out and by the time I could get another knot to stay the string was too short. So, I took the D off my guitar, (a steel wound instead of nylon wound), and it sounds good enough for now. I've emailed MF and am anxious to see what they do about it. I think I might like to try all nylon bari and/or tenor strings. I'll write a follow-up review in a week or two.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who plays ukulele. Right out of the box I was amazed at the look of this instrument. It is beautiful. It also feels very well constructed, and sounds beautiful. Also, being a guitar player myself, it is very fun to play when tuned to DGBE (for you guitarist who don't know, baritone Ukes are tuned the same as the top four strings of a guitar) Super fun to play, and an amazing value.

wonderful solid construction, great sale price, did need the saddle piece to be sanded quite a bit for better action.

Comments about Mitchell MUB70S Baritone Ukulele:

BACKGROUND: I am a guitar player who has completed my ukulele collection with a Soprano, Concert, Tenor, and now a Baritone. The small Soprano (Neewer) is primarily for my visiting grandson's indocutanation into a string instrument that I will play for him. The Concert (UKBOY) and Tenor (PONO) are my "go to" ukes that I have out in my living room and family room ready to pickup and noodle anytime.

MUB70S: A Baritone is one I wanted to "test drive" the longer scale length and more of a standard guitar tuning on the top four strings. Overall built quality and fit and finish are very good although not perfect, but acceptable for the price point paid. Action was high for my finger-picking playing requirements. Because I repair and setup guitars, I spent around 2 hrs tweaking this uke for my use. I will mention I did not encounter any high frets or sharp fret ends that I normally have to correct, but they all did require a good polishing. This one is a looker and I love that unique head-stock! The thick solid top, the Rosewood laminated body, along with the heavy poly-finish all contribute to the somewhat mellow tone. Recognizing ukuleles are not "cannons" with deep bass response, this uke is more than acceptable in the tone department. In closing, I would recommend any of Mitchell ukulele's as excellent values, especially if you can pickup one on sale.

CONCERT CONVERSION: A baritone ukulele standard tuning is like a guitar's top 4 strings (D-G-B-E). If you put a capo on the 5th fret of a baritone uke, then you have temporary converted it to a concert uke scale length. So you can play along with Soparno, Concert, or Tenor ukuleles tuned to G-C-E-A with tradition ukulele chord shapes. Also, you will have low-G vs. high-g (linear vs. reentrant) tuning, plus there is wider string spacing. This makes the baritone sized ukulele an excellent choice for guitar players wanting to dabble in the uke world having two options at their fingertips. Sweet!
