OVERVIEW

Real Les Paul tone and feel for beginners or pros.

This is a limited edition version of Epiphone's number one selling model available with a choice of "worn" finishes. The Epiphone Ltd Ed Special-I is a great way for beginners to get started on guitar with real Les Paul tone and feel. But seasoned pros love the Special-I also because it's a great-sounding, workhorse guitar that lets them leave their more expensive axes at home.

The authentic LP power starts with an basswood, trademarked Les Paul body with a bolted-on "1960's" SlimTaper„¢ mahogany neck featuring a 21-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The Special-I is voiced by a pair of hot open-coil Epiphone 700T and 650R humbucker pickups, giving it massive, unmistakable Les Paul tone. Like all of Epiphone's electric guitars, it comes standard-equipped with 500K potentiometers for the master volume and master tone controls, plus Epiphone's heavy-duty 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and exclusive non-rotating heavy-duty output jack. This value-champ also now features nickel hardware including an intonated, one-piece wraparound bridge-stopbar.

I agree with most of the reviews already posted. This is a great little guitar for the money!

It just FEELS good to play. The neck has a realy nice feel to it. The pick ups aren't the best, but better than some other entry level guitars. The tuners aren't great, as you'll need to re-tune every time you pick it up. The lack of adjustable saddles makes it nearly impossible to get the intonation right for every string, but you can come close. I like the satin finish, but others may not.

All and all don't even attempt to compare this to a $300+ guitar. It won't stack up.

But if you are looking for a beginner guitar, or just a cheap guitar you can pound on and not care this would be a great option.

For someone new to playing guitar, consider this:

You'll need to tune it every time you pick it up. But as a beginner, you need to learn how to tune the guitar.

The pick ups aren't amazing. As a beginner you won't know the difference.

You won't be able to set the intonation properly. As a beginner, you don't know what intonation is and won't be playing on the upper register.

Basswood is not mahogany, let alone mahogany with a maple cap. The tone is not as good, nor is the sustain. But as a beginner, could you tell?

The important thing is that as a beginner, this guitar feels good and will encourage you to play. There is a little fret buzz, but it doesn't come through the amp, so it's not really noticable.

The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the body is thinner than a regular Les Paul, so the guitar doesn't really fit properly in the fitted case. Two folded old T-Shirts should "shim" it up just fine!

For the price, for someone just learning guitar, or just a kick around guitar, I reccomend you consider this as an option.

i got this just to do some upgrading and because I've always dug the 'TV yellow' color on gtrs. After changing the tuners to Grovers and adding a Duncan Invader, it became what I wanted it for - something fun to bang around on. Is it a professional piece? No! Does it feel good to just pick it up, crank an amp, and peel off some some thick, single-note, palm-muted runs? Absolutely! There you go, for what it's worth.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

No guitar this inexpensive has any right to feel, play or sound this good!I traded someone a spare amp I had sitting around for one of these. This thing is GREAT! I was blown away by the sounds that I was able to get out of this guitar. My only dings are that the tuners are pretty bad and I'm not a huge fan of the bridge, but those are easy fixes. Epiphone has mastered putting value, great sound, and overall quality into an instrument available at a price point available to anybody. There is nothing fancy about this guitar, but the way it feels in my hands, sounds to my ears, and makes me feel when I play make me keep coming back for more. This is a great guitar!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

If you read the description of the sales volume, you too would want to own a TV Yellow LP just for the heck of it. Like other reviewers have noted, the factory strings have to come off. With a new set of Slinkys, now you're starting to get it right. A straight forward layout on the controls, it's ready to plug in and play. I'd say leave the pickups alone, and just play. The picture on the website is brighter than the actual shade, it's worn, read, it's dull. This guitar could be a go-to-axe when you want to create a song or idea because it's not a valuable instrument. It's a good value that does, however, perform well.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

Very nice guitar for his price, actually I'm kinda of impressive. It loooks nice. Very light weight. I had a Les Paul Santard Pro ago, I lost it and I bought this one just because I need the Les Paul feel. This guitar has a decent sound, and best of all, this particular model, is not P90, so this humbuckers set up are perfect, so you can upgrade it, or, leaving like that by default has a decent sound. The"pre-adjust" action requieres attention, I felt it a little bit high when it arrives, so I tweek with it a little, and ready to go. I have been jammin with this since arrived few days ago.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

Background: I played tons of Gibsons over the years. I have had a 1969 LP Deluxe that came with two of the white non-humbucking pickups. These pickups were terrible sounding and made so much noise I had to replace them with humbuckers. The neck was OK, but not great, shape-wise. So, I got rid of it (big mistake. These things are going for $2K-$3K now ... sigh I then bought a '70 LP Custom, 'The Fretless Wonder'. I never could play it (my problem not the guitar's) because of the low frets. It was more of a Jazz guitar than a rock guitar. So I got rid of it --- another big mistake. It was a beautiful instrument in the right hands, I had a friend who was a very good jazz guitarist and he made it sing.

Enter the LP Special I P-90's --- now, maybe it's just me, but this is a guitar I have fallen in love with. Granted it's the first Gibson (Epiphone) I have owned since 1973 when I sold the LP Custom, but this thing ROCKS. I bought one for my daughter, and after playing it for an hour ordered another one for myself. The P-90's do make some noise, but nothing like the Deluxe. And this guitar sounds great.

It isn't the gorgeous block of Honduras mahogany on the Deluxe, but this plays and sounds so much
      better.

I'm a real fan of older/vintage guitars, and rarely bump into new models that I like as much, but I have to give credit where it's due, and this is it.

Even the tuners that some people talk about are fine for stock tuners. You could replace them if you like, but frankly I'll just wait until they wear out, if they ever do.

I've also, never been a big fan of the stop tailpiece/one-piece bridge combination in the past. But again I have to admit that it works just fine on this guitar.

Naturally, there's no whammy bar on this guitar. but the LP's I had were stock tailpieces with no spring loaded accessories.

All in all, if you are in the market for an electric, irregardless of price, you should audition this thing through a decent amp.

Great little guitar. Excellent fit and finish. Set up was OK right out of the box. Minor complaint, I wish the TV yellow was a solid color, but it is a semi transparent over a faux mahogany woodgrain. The quality of the guitar would stand on its own. It doesn't need to pretend to be something it's not.

My son wanted a LP for Christmas,I don't have the coin so we got the Epi. I've owned every pricey guitar there is and this is perfectly done. the fit & finish, play-ability and a fret-dress straight from the box that made my last $3500 piece look like trash. I'd gig w/it in a snap. NICE!

It's a great little no-frills guitar. Lightweight. Sustain is pretty good, probably because of the wraparound bridge/tailpiece. All the components are decent but could be upgraded if necessary. Intonation is good. Nice sound unplugged or otherwise. Lots of fun to play. Great for a cheap guitar. Some fret buzz. The TV Yellow (mustard) paint job is nice but not flashy, which I like.

Picked this Special up to use as a "mule" for pickup testing. Really solid acoustic tone. Perfect for my needs. Light weight & almost perfect balance. After some basic electronic re-configuring, fret level & re-crown, bone nut, (did that for appearances more then anything), set of DR Pure Blues 11s, ect, ect... This guitar is as good as any axe as you can get on a tight budget. I've taken it out & used it through a Blackface Bassman 50. Not that it impressed anybody but me... But I'm a pretty tough critic. Proud to have had it with me... & it Looks Killer with a lil' relic work & pickguard... Yea, showin' the new lil axe with some much older siblings... Bravo Epiphone, You've got this!

I bought one of thes for my son. It's his forth guitar. Once he had it in tune and played it, I knew I wanted one to. So I did just that. He has the cherry and I the yellow. They sound just as good as the more expensive lp. We have 12 guitars sitting around our house and these get played the most. My son is 14 and me 56. All I can say is buy one. If it's for a beginner or some one experienced they will enjoy playing this guitar and maybe you will even pick it up and play more often. My son has a higher priced start but this is what's in his hands most.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

It's a great relaxed guitar, feels and sounds like a Les Paul, has the look to proove it. It is perfect for rhythm and accenting a lead guitar. It can be used as a lead guitar when in the hands of someone more talented then I am, but I'm more rhythm any way.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

Not a fancy guitar, no high gloss finish, no body binding. But, you can't beat this guitar for the price. It's the best value around. Easy to play short scale. Versatile sound with the HH pups. Very light so you can wear it on your shoulder all night. The only complaint I had was the tuners did not keep it in tune with the heavier flat wound strings I like, so I replaced them with a set of Mighty Mites. I also smoothed the back of the neck with a piece of steel wool to make it fast.

I'm blown Away !!!!! If you want a great guitar this is undoubtedly the best bang for your buck. With the Free Shipping you can't go wrong. The guitar was very easy to play right out of the box. A little "Finger Ease" makes the neck fast. I may lower the strings a little more but really don't need to. This would be a great guitar to learn on for a youngster. Short scale for short fingers. The Finish is not too pretty but I can live with it.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special-I Electric Guitar:

I'm a piano player. I've never been remotely interested in learning to play the guitar. However, like most amateur/hobbyist musicians, I like to record stuff with protools and figured it'd be nice to have a guitar around to color my music with it from time to time. I haven't found a virtual guitar that quite gets there. So that's the attitude with which I approached this purchase. It arrived and, holy mackerel, it's so fun! It sounds great even through a little practice amp meant for a bass. I really can't put the thing down. In the past, I've picked up expensive guitars owned by friends and noodled around and was completely uninspired -- thus my disinterest in ever learning the guitar. This one is somehow different and I'm not sure I can explain why. For a beginner who wants to enjoy the process of learning to play this thing, I can't recommend this any higher. I'm ecstatic about it and can't believe it was that cheap. By the way, the black one looks way cooler than it does in the picture -- and that's fun too. Note that nearly all the reviews have marked, "fun to play". They're not kidding.

When I just want to entertain myself I pull this one from my quiver, run it through my looper and be my own one man band. It is a fun axe but I wouldn't gig with it. I think it would be reliable but too light for sustain and I would want to upgrade the pickups. With two G & Ls in Candy apple red and a custom paint job on my bass I honestly was just a sucker for the TV yellow. It is so cool.

Don't like the color, not really yellow as I had wanted. It's a brand new guitar and the fret ends are sharp enough to start really bothering your fingers, pickups sound muddy, waste of money after a long wait.
