OVERVIEW

A classic in a limited-edition finish.

The G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy is a factory-modded version of the traditional single-cutaway bolt-on axe. For players looking for the unmistakable warmth of a classic humbucker in the neck position, the Bluesboy delivers with a well-balanced pairing of a G&L alnico humbucker and a single-coil G&L bridge pickup.

Framed in a classic boxed-steel bridge, the single-coil alnico bridge pickup delivers crisp attack with complex harmonics while individual brass saddles offer modern levels of intonation refinement. Flip to the neck ‘bucker and you’ll discover all the charismatic warmth you could ask for. Put them together and you’ll enjoy a whole new level of pleasure.

The Tribute Series ASAT Classic Bluesboy is dripping with mojo at a price attainable for every working musician. This model comes in a special limited-edition finish with a 3-ply white pickguard and maple fretboard. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back. Case sold separately.

This is the best deal out there on a great bluesboy. The color looks more like pelham blue than turquoise and is stunning. The neck pickup is clear and articulate great for jazz / blues / rhythm. The bridge pickup is alnico and more tele sounding than other bluesboy models. Middle position is a good balance of these two pickups. I think the two tonal differences provide alot more sound options than the normal humbucker in the neck and mfd in the bridge. Also from what i have seen this is the only bluesboy (solid or semi hollow tribute series ) G&L ever produced that has the humbucker/alnico combination. All others have been humbucker / mfd combo. Neck finish is perfect and setup was great from the start.

I'm pretty disappointed. Thought I got a great deal when this went on sale, looked so good and couldn't wait to get my hands on it and play it. It arrived well packaged and when I first opened up the carton I was very pleased. Not a seafoam or surf green like it looks in the picture but more a sparkly light blue. I had a Fender Stratocaster this color once and loved it. When I got to inspecting it I noticed something didn't quite look right. The bridge was a bit crooked. Didn't notice it from about ten feet away but up close but it did not line up with the pickguard. The bridge was in the cutout on one side and clearly out of the cutout on the other. Also the tone control knob was loose, the knob itself was defective I confirmed by switching it with the volume. If it was just the knob I would have replaced it but with the bridge being crooked I just couldn't look past it. I never even plugged it in, had to return it.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

I own many guitars, a couple US G&L, US Strats, 335 Gibson, Godin, Epiphones and more, my main work horse is a US custom B-Bender Telecaster, my back up is a mexican Fenders Telecaster (Swirl)
I have 12 years of touring experience across North America, mostly Canada but also the US and have been retired off the road since 1993.

I'm in my 50s and consider myself an experienced player with above average skill. I've played through Fender, Peavey, Marshall and other amps, I have some of these on a shelf ready for use but now use a Roland Cube 80, it has a lot to offer in a small package. I've seen the abuse the road does to gear and appreciate a good guitar and amp. Though it is solid state, I get what I want and I don't miss any tube like qualities, especially when playing in a band.

This G&L Blueboy is a pleasure to play, the neck is lacquer free and feels great, the frets feel like a little bit could use slight filling on the edges but it does not affect my play whatsoever. I own the hollow body Bluesboy and was waiting to get this one should a deal come along. It is above my expectations, the color is great and fits with the 50s band I work with, It has all the spank a Tele needs to play in the Country band I also play for. I tend to use the mid position for most of my playing, it gives me a bright and full sound all at once, it has both Fender Telecaster qualities and Gibson as well from the Humbucker neck pickup, the tone knob can help dial in what you look for. I also have my own band which plays anything from Jimi Hendrix to Merle. This guitar can do it all and can be a main work horse, I recommend this G&L Bluesboy based on the one I received. At this time, I've been using the Bluesboy to play with both the 50s and the Country bands, come time to do my show with my band, I will probably go back to my Fender custom as I am so familiar with it. I do think the Bluesboy will become my back up and possibly steal the show. I hope this is helpful.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

Got the guitar and it plays nice and sounds nice plugged into my Gibson GA5T. But there are some issues that really had me wondering if I should return it. My experience doesn't seem to match up with the other reviews here or I just got one that's not as good. The frets are not polished in places - there are scratches that look like they are from 120 grit sandpaper. Either the bridge is crooked or the pickguard is because it is obvious that it is closer on one side than the other when you look at the bottom of the bridge. The nut actually sticks out 1/16th of an inch on either side of the fretboard. The 3 way switch seems solid but seems flimsy. I might be just expecting too much from a budget guitar but the workmanship on this is less impressive than the J Mascis Squire that I passed on when I got this one.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

I was pumped to find a guitar that looked like the first electric I ever played at such a great sale price (usd300- also, the profanity filter won't let me use the dol lar sign-number three hundred combo... also won't let me use the word d-o-l l-a-r), but once I got it, I found that the frets were very rough. Bends were gross and gritty. I returned it, got a new one, and the frets were still rough enough that it was uncomfortable to play, and there was some stray glue on the fret board. They agreed to issue another exchange, and said that the next guitar would be inspected before shipment. Instead, once the second fail was received, they issued a refund without telling me that there were no defect-free copies available. Cool company, sad representation.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

Received guitar and the set up was atrocious, basically unplayable. Action up as high as it could go, unlevelled frets, neck bowed. After a full set up it was playable. The fit and finish are fine, decent tuners, but the neck humbucker lacks clarity , but, for under 300 , it is what it is.
I do love the satin finish on the neck and the bridge is good quality. With a decent set up from the factory the guitar would not have been so disappointing.
By the way, the color is nothing like the color depicted on the website, more of a metallic , bluish, silver gray.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

Not even close to the color advertised. The neck is set a few millimeters off from the joint causing an overlap on the treble side where the neck sets in the groove and causes a gap on the bass side between the neck and body. Going to be used as a beater guitar.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

The guitar is nicer in hand than the pictures suggest. The finish is gorgeous and flawless. Everything works as it should, but I will upgrade the tuners eventually. The bridge is a bit crooked, a definite negative, but I reworked the mounting holes and now the bridge plate is square. The pickups were way out of balance, so I took the advice of another reviewer and replaced the neck pup with a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat. It's an awesome pickup, but it completely drowned out the bridge. With some research, I went with a S-D Hot Stack lead; the result is close enough: pleasant and completely manageable. I now have a tele that covers just about any genre I wish to play, and for a decent price, even with the upgrades.

I really really enjoy the tonal variations I get with this guitar. The single coil in the bridge and the humbucker in the neck allow for a lot of great tones. An excellent all-around instrument for country, blues, rock, and jazz. Plus the turquoise is sparkly and pretty!

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

My first copy of the Tribute ASAT Bluesboy was a open box. When I received the open box, I found no marks or scratches and the guitar player so well, but something was wrong. I finally realized the bridge was badly misaligned. It was so bad that the strings were crossing the bridge Pup at the edge of the magnets. The volume of the strings on the bridge Pup were much lower than the neck Pup. A fatal flaw that isn't worth fixing. Musician's Friend was greàt and accepted the return and paid for shipping. I decided to get a new Tribute ASAT Bluesboy instead of an open box version. When the new guitar arrived, I noticed immediately the bridge was much straighter and the strings were running over the bridge Pup center. A far better copy than the open box I originally received. So if you receive a copy of this guitar and it has defects, you should return it and get another. My second Bluesboy is a great guitar. I have a USA Fender Highway One Texas Telecaster and this G&L Tribute rivals the Fender USA quality in sound, playability and looks. The G&L Tribute offers incredible value for the money and blows away the MiM Fenders. The sound of the two Bluesboy Pups together is incredible. The range of sounds is amazing as well since you've got a single coil with plenty of spank at the bridge and a nice warm double coil at the neck. The guitar could probably benefit from a setup due to the nut height and intonation, but at this price range that is to be expected. Overall this is a fantastic guitar at a great price. Don't hesitate to buy.

The five stars are relative. No, it's not a world class top of the line hand crafted guitar. But for the price, this guitar blows away anything I have played from fender in the last ten years up to a 600 price tag. It just needed a little adjustment out of the box. Great guitar for the money, heavy duty bridge, individual saddles, smooth electronics.

I added this guitar to my stable because it added a sound like no other. The pickups are different than any other I own. i love the neck pickup. Combined they are just great. Wonderful warm sound with great clarity. The fit and finish is better than I expected from a guitar at this price. It was nearly perfect right out of the box.No setup or tweaking required. Amazing. I own many guitars and I am fussy about them. Well done G & L.

Just received this from MF last week. I own strats, a Les Paul, etc. The pickups on this sound better than my strat with Samarian Cobalt Noiseless pickups (the pickups that were on the American Deluxe Strat!) The neck is awesome, nicer than my strat also. Right out of the box, the set up was good. Made minor adjustment with the truss rod, and of course, changed the strings to Ernie Ball. I'm surprised just how good a guitar this is. I will be looking at G & L guitars again for the awesome quality, and, of course, buy it from Musician's Friend.

Great right out of the box lowered the action( personal taste) and tuned it and she was ready actually it was already in tune for the most part. It had some small scratch but hey had too look real hard to see it.
I really do wish it came with some info for future reference, such as a product card or something.

Comments about G&L Limited Edition Tribute ASAT Classic Bluesboy Electric Guitar:

I'm a 69 year old blues player and I have played some good ones and some bad ones, but this is Not a bad little guitar. Very reasonably priced. I think it is an excellent value. Not a "custom shop" guitar, but very resonate and playable, with good intonation right out of the box. I might at some point try some replacement pickups in it, but I am just going to play it a while before I do anything.

Awesome Guitar. The color is even better in person. I've bought several cheaper electrics this year and this is my favorite. It makes me want to play. Order now
