I saw this guitar while I was testing out the new Breedlove Atlas series of guitars (to be reviewed later )... the XLR output interested me so I gave it a try. Unlike most guitars off the shelf the strings were brand new so I was able to determine how good this guitar was right away. I was expecting a smaller, thinner sound from it unplugged .... and that's exactly what it sounded like to me. HOWEVER, when plugged in it took on a whole new life. It certainly plays like a big guitar with some tweeking of the onboard controls. I needed a decent second guitar anyway so I snapped it up there and then. I use a local dealer so they set it up with med guage phospher bronze and filed the fret ends right there while I waited (sometimes it pays to shop local) threw in a nylon gig bag and off I went.I have been using a Taylor jumbo for ages, and for a long time felt that it was too good to bash around the bar-type gigs we do hence my need for something good, and reliable that had decent sound quality ... nothing beats a Taylor jumbo so there's no point in a comparison with it, however the Ibanez held it's own the first series of gigs I used it on. The neck is a little clunkier than most but if you play acoustic guitar a lot this shouldn't be a big deal. The onboard tuner is very handy, but I'm so used to my old Sabine tuner I hardly use it. I sometimes employ a heavy strum technique (a la Luka Bloom) when the full band gigs and the guitar stayed in tune, despite the fact that the machine heads look a little cheesy, and there's a lot of play in them. The Fishman pickup system allows for a lot of tone variety, and as mentioned there's an XLR as well as a regular 1/4" out. Plus this little bugger is loud!! Bottom line: As a second guitar (which this eventually will be for me) you could do a whole lot worse for the money, however if you intend to use it solely as an acoustic instrument you might be dissapointed with the sound from a small bodied guitar. I would replace it if it got stolen, etc.

I bought this guitar as my first acoustic electric. It has a good sound too it. Very rich. My only concern is craftsmanship. My saddle came unglued exactly one year (to the day) after I bought it. Then I had it repaired and set up again, and it doesn't sound the same. I wouldn't buy it again. I expect a guitar to last longer than a year though. Overall a good guitar though... maybe I just got a bad one. As far as playability, I recommend having the action lowered. I play fast and solo a lot... Its not the best guitar for that.

Great Mid-Line Guitar

By Gary Chapman

from Dallas TX

Owned this guitar for about 1 year. Plugged or unplugged,it sounds great. I replaced a 78 Fender with this guitar in our act. It has faster action than the Fender or the Ovation. Plugged, it tops them both. Great guitar for the money.

Great plugged

By balderod

from San Antonio, TX

I've had this baby for quite some time now. What I needed was a good sounding acoustic I can plug in and play live. I'm no rich man and this was in my price range. It sounds great plugged in. Really does. With the Fishman electronics and the built in tuner it will make you smile. My one qualm, if your looking for a guitar to jam on unplugged, this is not the one for you. It has a very thin body which doesn't produce great tone or volume. It's ok, but not great.Overall, if your looking for a live plugged in guitar, this one goes head to head with pricier models.A bit of advice for any acoustic buy--- get the hardshell case and a humidifier. Protect your investment. But overall, I am pleased for what i use it.

Beautiful black finish! Had to get the action lowered some. Nothing special unplugged but once you amplify it lookout. Also I like the size, smaller than a dreadnought more comfortable to play. Good deal for the money

Really nice acoustic. I played it at a friends house and played it for about 3 hours straight the second I picked it up. Sounds great not plugged in. Sounds great plugged in. The built in tuner is a plus.

FANTASTIC...:D

This guitar is my first electric-acoustic and its, simply put, amazing I've had it for a little over a year now and its always in tune and always sounding great. The pickups are very good, though on mine it doesn't pickup the high e very well. Also the wire from the pickup sometimes buzzes when you play the lower strings e.g. low E, A, and D but I still love it plugged or unpluggedIn short I definitely recommend this guitar it'll change your life for the better. :D

A diamond in the rough

The Ibanez AEL10e really is what I say in the title. This guitar has an unbelievable tone for a guitar of any price. I was looking for an acoustic about 6 months ago and found this bad boy. Its not as easy to fret as high end takamine's and taylors, but its by no means difficult to fret. But come on I think based on the low price you can get over it. I gave the quality a 9 because the tuners on the headstock(not the built in tuner) aren't too good. None the less I think you would be happy with purchasing this guitar. Oh, and the sound resonates very well making it great for vocal accompanyment.

Perfect Solution

By Eire Lingus

from Raleigh, NC

I have been playing out on a Gibson J-180 and realized that it was just too valuable to use in pubs week after week. I went looking for something with built-in electonics to take out on the road. I never would have guessed that I would buy an Ibanez, but it was the only neck that came close and the built in tuner closed the deal. The sound onstage is truly outstanding. Great Buy!

great sound plugged in

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I play praise and worship music in my youth band and have played many acoustics. This guitar sounds great when it is plugged into the system!!! However it lacks when playing it not plugged in. So if you are going to play it through a system go for it!!! Its the best bang for your buck.

Really choice guitar

I really love this guitar and I got more than I expected. I really like the abolone rosette and the pearl inlay dots. The action on this guitar is outstanding. This guitar plays like a much more expencive guitar. With an onboard tuner I don't know what else you can ask for on this great guitar.

Awesome if you know what your doing.

By Voxaddict

from Wisconsin

When I first picked up this guitar, I was skeptic because my friend who owned it before I did never used it. He always used his Ovation for everything. Yet when I picked this up i was amazed. With the lap-tapping that I do I instantly loved the Cleartone strings he had on there. The one thing I really love about this guitar is the on-board tuner. It really helps when you go back and forth from a lot of different tunings. The strings are not that high off the neck which is good if you are tapping a lot of songs. This is an amazing product unplugged and plugged in.

I have had this guitar for over a year now. When I first got it I knew that it was a really good looking guitar and it had amazing playability, but it didn't sound as good as I had hoped. Then, however, I took it home and plugged it in and was amazed at the difference in sound. When plugged in this is an amazing guitar. When not plugged in it is good, but nothing really special. I reccomend this guitar for intermediate players who are on a budget. You won't be dissapointed with it.

GREAT ELECTRONICS

By "Truth Chaser"

I've had this guitar for a year now and the sound is great If you looking for a guitar with a bright sound and no bass at all! But the system in it is amazing. I just wish it was in a better sounding guitar. Oh ya it is a super easy guitar to play, but the top sting buzzes(no matter what size strings you have on it.Best of luck finding the right guitar....

Kind of a O.K. Acoustic

I got this guitar for christmas and picked it out. I wish I would have researched acoustic guitars more before I bought it. The acoustic/electric is a plus but I don't really use it. The sound is ok but there are much better sounds in guitars ok equal price. It is not the easyist guitar to play either. Don't get me wrong it is a pretty good guitar but other guitars for the same price are much better(Taylor Big Baby)

A Review for the Skeptics

By Ron R

from Seminole, FL

See all my reviews

I have been playing for about 10 years now and just recently began playing live and recording. I bought this guitar because I have been playing on an Alvarez AE dreadnought model for many years. I bought this particular model for a fuller sound. Not only did I get a rich sound with great resonance, but it sounds great plugged in. I also used it to record a studio track and got the best sound I've ever gotten from the studio. The on board tuner is also a great tool to have. (It works even when the guitar isn't plugged in!) Like all Acoustic/Electric models, you probably should buy a feedback buster to kill the buzz. Other than that, you really get more than your money's worth! Enjoy it!
