A great strummer with rich bottom end that's highly versatile.
The following descriptions are from Sound Check Sessions that allow a small group of Martin employee/players to spend quality time with fresh instruments to discuss the concepts behind the creations, and to offer commentary on sound, feel, and look.
The Concalo Alves Dreadnought is summed up this way: œIt excels at different musical styles. Conceived as a œ21-Special styled performer this Goncalo Alves dreadnought proves to be a highly versatile instrument. Its forward-shifted bracing helps deliver an overall lower fundamental tone.
This Adirondack spruce-topped guitar shows itself to be a good strummer with a sound signature reminiscent to that of a rosewood jumbo body. With a long scale, this instrument lends itself very well to alternative tunings. The rich bottom end is coherent and not boomy, even tuned 1/2-step down.
Balance across a variety of tunings will complement a variety of genre and performance styles. As a comfortable coffee-house strummer, attention will immediately be drawn to the distinct visual character of the Goncalo Alves. Visually, one thinks koa. Sonically, it has more rosewood timbres, undoubtedly due to the rich denseness of the wood.
