Bad Action

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

The action on this keyboard is terrible. It feels very "plastic" and unnatural. The features-the knobs and sliders however are pretty useful. But if you care at all about how the keyboard feels, I don't recommend this board. Go with a Studiologic keyboard.

Buyer Beware!

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

Coming from the world of analog, making the jump to Light-Speed in the Midi world has been an arduous task at the very least. This is my first controller, so in all fairness I can't compare it to anything else. But I guarantee that will all be changing soon because I am getting rid it ASAP! Why is it that all the owners manuals tell you "What" the device does, but never "HOW" to do it? My first impression of this thing was that it is a BOAT ANCHORE! After zero help from their, [CME] so-called tech support it's still a BOAT ANCHORE! All things considered, the action is not too bad for a controller I guess. But the velocity settings are schizophrenic, making it very difficult to play with any feeling or texture. The controls are very cheep and flimsy feeling. I am very dissappointed with this unit, and for what it does, it is WAY TOO Heavy! Why else would they be discontinued? Spend your money more wisely elsewhere. Run as far away from CME products as you can. You'll thank me later!

Not Impressed

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

Even though it has the hammer feel of the keys, they tend to be very klunky. I am very disappointed overall in the purchase of this keyboard and definitely will never buy another CME product.

Drivers Are an Issue!!

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

Great keys, Seriously! I sold my M-audio Pro88 for the action this keyboard has, but about half of those who purchase it can't use it due to bunged up driver issues. If you have tradition midi in/outs your golden, but don't trust USB connection. Again 9 on everything but the driver, and a 1 for that...whats the use of a rock solid keyboard that can't control your software?

Feels better and plays better

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

Well, After goung though Three (Yes 3 M-Audio Pro 88 Controllers in a year) I switched to the CME 88. Although the M-Audio board has more knobs, sliders and program control with instant buttons to do program and controller changes, I quickly adapted my racks and approach to the CME style. The up down buttons work fine for going forward and backward on PC-based SW Synths, but using a hardware Synth can be a bit cumbersome. I easily programmed controller changes with this board and liked the instant volume control per MIDI channel. You can program the sliders to change volume per MIDI and controllers too.The Feel and weight of this keyboard is FAR SUPERIOR to the M-Audio board. Slide you fingers across the board and you will hurt you fingers on the M-Audio board. The CME board has a slight "Springy" return and is alot easier to play. Eventually the M-Audio board keys would start failing on me and stick in the down position. I was NOT gorillaing the board at all. the Middle C seemed to always fail first on every board I had (Maybe it's a hammer split point?) I also had to wait a month before I got a new board from M-Audio after they forgot about me. The CME board, although not as knobby and slidery has the proper key detents, came with a pedal, AND a beefy Power supply. The M-Audio board did not come with either.Hands down. I speak from real-world experience. Sorry M-Audio, you can have your board back. CME is now my controller of choice.

CME uf88 Great!

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

This is a relatively new product offering produced in China, I noticed Musicians friend does not list it in their catalog. I ordered the UF8, and aside from the growing pains involved with their usb driver development, I am happy with it. If I were going to be mostly in the studio some of the less expensive and more feature laden controllers would possibly be better. I am both a live player and a studio player so the UF8 was a no brainer for me. This keyboard is just plain cool and built like a tank. The keyboard action is just what I wanted. Although it is well built I still expect to get some road warrior scratches, comes with the territory. I like how CME thought outside the box instead of copying everyone else. No other board offers what this one does for the money. M-audio keys are flimsy in comparison. The uf8 does not offer memory location the way M-audio does, however after you power down, all settings are saved. The uf8 allows you to save different controller settings to the 16 midi channels and offers dual and split funtions. Also transmits in GS,GM or XG midi. The sliders and buttons seem to be of good quality as do the keys. Sliders and knobs are dual function at the touch of a button effectively doubling their use. All in all I chose this board over the competition because it does what I want it to no more no less, the design suits me to a tee. CME has even moved the controls to the left and made room for my laptop or a keyboard instead of clustering them all in the middle with no room at either end, thumbs up CME !

Comments about CME UF8 88-Key MIDI Controller:

having bought this controller at a discounted price, when i picked it up, i was simply amazed at how much this beast packs. sometimes you can't get what you want out of it, but that's often to be expected, as with any products there are certain restrictions or limits. but for the amount of use i've put into it in 3 months, i can only say this beats buying massively priced synths or workstations if you're a home studio user. make sure if you use this, to come equipped with a couple of rack effects with MIDI ability, or come loaded with a massive amount of VST plugins for your home studio or mobile laptop workstation, otherwise, you're not going to get the full worth. and always use the power supply when applicable!
