The Keystation 88 MKII feels and looks great. The keys are not exactly like a piano feel, but they're close. I use this for recording, using sounds that came with my DAW (Mixcraft 6) and it works great for that. If you already have decent piano sounds at hand, don't bother downloading the free piano software that comes with this (via a printed card). It's a pain in the neck and I STILL couldn't get it to show up in my VST's in my DAW. Probably operator error but it's not like I'm "new". I didn't download the Ableton Live Lite either, since I already had a DAW in place, so I can't review that part of it.
I really like this keyboard! Buy it!

Was looking for a cheap 88 key controller, MF has an open box unit... the box came in really bad shape, and from the stickers I figure I was the 4th owner. The action was poor, the keys made odd noises, and not usable - I guess there's a reason this was open box and had been returned multiple times. Maybe the new units are OK, but this was a dog. Returning it was a hassle too... odd for MF, they're usually pretty good about that.

Comments about M-Audio Keystation 88 MKII:

This is a decent keyboard; nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Key sensitivity is good, but doesn't have the same feel as more expensive models (which is to be expected). Overall, this is a solid choice in this price category. On a side note, it is a touch bulky; I use it on a sliding tray shelf below my desk, and it's almost too wide and tall for that setup (the keyboard is ~5" at its tallest and ~55" long)

We used the Keystation 88 as a controller for the synthesized sounds for our school play Once on this Island. It was truly plug and play and interfaced nicely with all the computers we hooked it to.

I am a beginner and bought this to accompany my Music Theory course. It is perfect for what I need to learn the basics with and I feel like I will have it for a long time. It sounds great when I use it with Garageband. I had a challenging time choosing my first keyboard and I am very happy with this one as my final decision. I always have my computer and I do not plan to take my keyboard traveling with me, so it being a controller and large isn't a problem. I like that it is large with some weight, it feels sturdy and I am stoked on the 88 keys. If you are just starting out as a pianist this is an awesome keyboard controller.

Comments about M-Audio Keystation 88 MKII:

I found this to be fairly easy to use. It has a nice feel when playing although I find the column response varies a bit from one note to the next when playing. However when playing back the finished song the sound seems perfectly normal so it could be more to do with the way my computer processes the signal while recording than any issues with the keyboard itself. I really like the full audio range available on thee 88 key version I purchased and the quality of the songs I am producing I more than expected. It comes with Abelton lite which is a plus. I use Presonus most of the time but find that each program has its own advantages depending on what you are producing. Overall I find it to be a very good purchase for the money and would recommend it to anyone. I'm sure there are many products that probably are better if you are willing to spend the money but there are no complaints with this one.

In a field of very limited 88-key MIDI keyboards at a reasonable cost, this one has been a reliable choice for a number of years now - I believe this is the technological successor to the 88-key Oxygen after M-Audio acquired the brand.

It's performed great, solidly reliable and reasonably well constructed. I use it for production, composition, and general piano practice, and it plays well with about as good of a feel as you can get with semi-weighted keys. The only drawback is that it has a limited feature set - no knobs, faders, or other MIDI bells and whistles that are useful to have as a producer. However, it can be easily paired with another inexpensive MIDI control device like the Korg nanoKONTROL2 to make up for this.

In exchange for that one weakness, you do get a reasonably slim design, making this a great overall keyboard for performances, composition, or any sound production application.

I've had other M-Audio Keystation 88 controllers in the past, and they've always worked just fine. I use it with Reason for mostly live performance. Straight forward performance without many whistles or bells. Semi-weighted action is interesting, not being hammer action but more of a tensive synth action.(whatever that means) ;-)

Comments about M-Audio Keystation 88 MKII:

The Keystation 88 MkII controller keyboard meets my needs nicely, and it's got a great price tag. If you have a small studio and you don't need a piano weighted keyboard, and you control many things from your software, it's also nice.

I'll be using mine mostly for open mic nights and jams and easy rehearsals carrying less gear and less heavy gear, and while it doesn't have a lot of features, it has the right ones for me.

It's got both USB MIDI and standard 5 pin midi and it has class compliant drivers so it can hook up to anything. It can be powered by an iPad via a USB cable and a lightning to USB camera kit. Very cool! The few controls it has are the right ones: there's an expression pedal input (also useful for volume changes in a DAW), there's programmable mod wheel, a pitch bend and a volume slider which is also programmable. There are other functions as well.

The feel of the keyboard is decent, not top notch, and a bit noisy, but it's a great price and I'm totally happy with it. It's not perfect, custom functions are not saved, so you have to redo them at startup each time, but there are only a few custom functions, and if you want more for the money, good luck. Highly recommended if it meets needs similar to my own.

I'd like to add that folks who complain that this keyboard is not a fully weighted hammer action keyboard, or that it doesn't make sounds of it's own need to educate themselves about the product before criticizing or leaving negative reviews.

Comments about M-Audio Keystation 88 MKII:

I'm enjoying making music for my short film with this. No problems working with Logic Pro X. There should be more instructions on how the advanced functions and the playback/record buttons at the top of this controller should work, though.
