Overview

A sampler for reggae-inspired live creativity.

Ready to drop reggae-inspired jams wherever you go? The EP-40 riddim Supertone Original Layering Machine from teenage engineering brings the sound-system spirit to life in a compact, performance-ready rig. With its intuitive three-mode architecture—Sound, Main and Tempo—users can build full songs from scratch using up to 999 sample slots, 128 MB of memory and a versatile subtractive synth engine. Whether loading classic dub sounds or capturing textures via line-in, the EP–40 delivers a fluid workflow and extensive manipulation through seven main FX and 12 punch-in FX. The result is a versatile, battery-powered toolkit perfect for sampling, sequencing and performing on the go.

Full Sampling, Sequencing and Sound-Design Flexibility

Sample directly from the world around you using the line-in jack or import audio via USB-C using the EP Sample Tool software. The riddim's step sequencer supports time divisions down to 1/32 with triplet options, perfect for complex programming or raw performance capture. You get nine editable projects, each offering four groups with 99 patterns and scenes, making it easy to layer, arrange and perform evolving compositions on the fly. Whether you’re chopping drum breaks, building dub grooves or experimenting with ambient loops, riddim gives you deep control over amplitude, pitch, loop behavior, envelope shaping and time-stretching to match any tempo.

Expressive Pads, Powerful FX and Real-Time Performance Tools

Performance is where the EP–40 riddim shines. The pressure-sensitive pads, dedicated fader, and dual X/Y encoders give you expressive, hands-on control over all key parameters. Choose between one-shot, looped or legato playbacks, and build complex scenes using the instant commit feature. Add movement and atmosphere with FX like delay, reverb, filter, distortion, phaser, chorus and compression, or get wild with real-time Punch-In FX 2.0 that let you glitch, warp and manipulate beats on the fly—all without breaking your groove.

Seamless Hardware Integration With Sync, MIDI and USB-C

Whether you're running a DAW-less setup or syncing to external gear, riddim makes integration easy. It features sync in/out, MIDI in/out and USB-C MIDI + audio support, enabling you to clock with Eurorack, control external synths and transfer samples or firmware updates. Want to hook up a turntable, your phone or a synth? The 3.5 mm stereo input makes sampling from any external device a breeze. And with the dual-purpose sync and MIDI I/O, you can daisy-chain Pocket Operators, drum machines or use the unit as a compact master clock.

Compact, Battery-Powered and Ready to Go

Designed with true portability in mind, the teenage engineering EP–40 riddim runs on four AAA batteries or over USB-C power, so you can compose anywhere—from studios to sidewalks. The lightweight design hides incredible depth, from keyboard pitch mapping with KEYS mode to Loop Startup Sequences, mute groups and Vinyl Tempo FX that slow your beat like a spinning turntable. The EP-40 riddim is a fully realized production system disguised as a pocket-sized groovebox—ready to help you build your next riddim, beat tape or live set from scratch.
