Comments about Audix DP 5A 5-Piece Drum Mic Kit:

If you want to see these in action, watch the demo video. I did and now that I own them, I can tell you it is accurate.I'm a live sound engineer who has worked in the industry for over 30 years. I've been using this kit for 3 months now, 9 gigs or so. In small clubs and larger halls, with mixed PA's, bands, and styles. These mics perform just as advertised. I use them primarily for live applications and have traditionally used 57s on everything except the kick. I've been searching for a kick mic that will provide slightly more punch without loss of definition. The D6 is all that and more. Straight up eq, no gate, no compression and it sounds great. Tom mics are much the same with the D4 perfectly rendering the wanted sounds of a low tom without any of the rumble or feedback. Again no gate and eq straight up. The snare is the only mic I have to work in some eq. It seems a bit low end heavy for my taste, but I am not eq'ing any more than I have been for years with a 57. Of note; the mics are heavy. They feel tough. The very first time I used the kit, the drummer dropped a case on the D4 and later hit the low tom with a shot of Jager on the head. After the gig, I found no dents, dings, or broken parts and wiped it down with a wet paper towel. Looks and sounds no different. A few weeks back a drummer simply hit a CAD mic supplied by the club and put a dent into the shell. You get what you pay for! The clips are a new design to me and so far have worked perfectly. The case is built well.Yes the price is higher than some other kits, but this is a deal.

Comments about Audix DP 5A 5-Piece Drum Mic Kit:

If you have the money, the Audix DP 5A Drum mic kit if fantastic. Compared to Shure Mics, the sound is way better, and the D6 blows the Beta 52 out of the water, but the Shure Mics are far less expensive. The SM57 is also a more "wide" snare mic than the Audix i5 in my opinion. If your looking for a cheaper option, go with the Shure drum mic pack with 3 SM57 mics and a Beta 52 kick mic. It is very road worthy. If your looking for a drum mic set that is under $400, you are asking for sound problems. With most mics, you get what you pay for, and cheap mics = a cheap sound. Just learn to budget and be patient, save up and get something good.

Comments about Audix DP 5A 5-Piece Drum Mic Kit:

These mics are designed and built for the professional drummer. They're not cheap mics, but they're worth more than what you pay for them. If you're considering getting some drum mics and are willing to spend the money on a professional product, get these. These are much better suited for live stage use but will fair extremely well in the studio as well.D2: These mics are fantastic on rack toms, placed close to the rim (capsule above the rim, about 1" from the head) and pointing towards the center of the tom, gives you what the tom should sound like. The mic is small and stays out of the way, which is good for tight setups. Great, clear tom sound with no or very little EQ required. Awesome.D4: Fantastic on floor toms and bass drums. Place this in the same fashion as I describe the D2's, but maybe a little higher off the head. Lots of low end punch and great attack make this just simply great.i5: I'm not too happy with these mics on snare drums. They sound good yeah, but they've got a huge bottom and a somewhat dark midrange that just sort of hides the snare in the mix. Although I prefer the sound of an SM57, I'd use the i5 sooner because of it's more rugged windscreen, the cap of 57's really do NOT like drumsticks. My favourite snare mic by far is the Audio Technica ATM650. Get that. The i5 sounds fantastic on guitar cabs, especially big, high-gain halfstacks thanks to it's huge low end, but I prefer the ATM650 here as well. These are really goddamn good on toms as well, and will give you a great sound on just about any other instrument you point it at.D6: This is THE bass drum mic. I've not used a better sounding microphone for bass drums. A huge, tight and punchy low end with a clear high end. Great especially for that heavy rock and metal "click", without being overbearing. This mic destroys all the other big name kick drum mics... I absolutely HATE the AKG D112.

Great For Live Drumming

Comments about Audix DP 5A 5-Piece Drum Mic Kit:

These mics are great for live drumming or recording sessions. Very easy to set up and maintain. The heavy duty mic clips stay on your drum rims while playing hard. The bass drum mic sounds great with deep thumps. The snare/high hat mic is super crisp with great sound. The tom mics are ranked with some of the best.

Great mics for the price. Great Live mics. you will not be dissappointed. great shape on sound. I use mine with a soundcraft 12/2 mixer to fine tune and add that extra punch and kick before going to the main board. These mics sound great. Works equally well in recording. Easy to control and shape.

Comments about Audix DP 5A 5-Piece Drum Mic Kit:

I like them. They make crappy cymbals sound good, and great cymbals sound like god. But the only thing i notice is that when you play something hard/intense it makes it sound a little worse. But they are good. I'd buy them again.
