OVERVIEW

A great sounding vocal mic for a friendly price.

Designed, assembled and tested in Wilsonville, Oregon, the OM2 is a dynamic vocal microphone used for a wide variety of live, home and studio applications. The OM2 utilizes a tight, uniform pattern, which helps isolate vocals from the other instruments on stage. This provides outstanding feedback rejection and allows vocals to cut through the mix.

Designed with a slight bass proximity and a tailored mid-range, the OM2 has a full-bodied sound on small to mid-sized PA systems while retaining true sound on large or professional PA systems.

With a wide frequency range of 50 Hz - 16 kHz, the OM2 employs a VLM diaphragm for a clear, precise sound with exceptional voice response. The OM2 is manufactured with a precision die cast zinc alloy body, beautiful black E-coat finish, and durable spring steel mesh grill to provide years of rock solid reliability. Includes heavy-duty nylon clip and carrying pouch.

I purchased this mic because I needed a backup mic while waiting for my Heil PR-22 to get repaired. I didn't want to spend a lot on another vocal mic, but since I play and sing in several groups, I could not get a low quality vocal mic. I also never really liked the sound and response of the tried-and-true SM58, and I prefer a hypercardiod pattern to better isolate my vocals. This mic seemed to fit my criteria, and came well recommended after reading many reviews. While it is no Heil large-diameter capsule mic, it is darn near close! I experienced great reproduction, with my vocals absolutely cutting thru the mix during an open mic night with my 4-pc acoustic-electric group. The OM2 also helped bring out my vocals with my 8-pc soul band, including cutting thru and above the horn section. All without a hint of feedback or bleedover. Although it does exhibit a bit of handling noise compared to my Heil and my ElectroVoice N/D's, it also costs much less, so I'd say it's a fair tradeoff. At this pricepoint, I can't see how anyone could go wrong having this mic in their locker. I know I will definitely recommend this one to all my musician friends with confidence.

I'm a singer for a hardrock band. I had the opportunity to use this mic recently for an acoustic show down in Portland, and I must say, I was excited to give it a spin. I'd always heard great things about Audix, although I'm a faithful Sennheiser man, myself.A few songs into the set, I noticed a rather stupid amount of feed back. I was facing the monitors, and I still got feedback, in a quiet, acoustic setting! Kind of ugly.A bit of eq adjustment, however, and we were running. This mic must have a crazy hot output to be getting such squeal in such a quiet setting. It was probably meant to be more of a workhorse for the loud, workingman jam-band.For my purposes, I wasn't digging it. I would take my sennheiser e835 over this humdoggy any day. But I would love to check out the om5, as I've heard amazing things about it.However, if you want an amazing mic at the same price as this here, go to SENNHEISER E835. You will not be disappointed!

OM2 is the 1 for you

Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

The Audix OM2 is , IMO, the best pro sound, anti feedback mic I've used. I own a senn. e 815, and 2 e-822's. I compared the om2 to a 58 and the e-835 (which I origally went to go buy). First off, the sm58 is out of the question compared to this mic. I brought home the sennheiser e 835 knowing the OM2 sounded better and had less feedback because it was a sennheiser, and I didn't want to switch brands. I got home and it sounded like the mics I already had. I called the store and drive 23 miles to exchange it the same day for the OM2. It's has the sound and feedback resistance I have been looking for for a long time. I did a dj gig set up in between 2 2x15 cabs cranked up all night, where the sennheiser would have been howling and squeeling, I left this mic on all night with no problem. It cut through the music like cheese. I even turned up the treble all the way to see what it would do, and it slowly started to feed back, same with the lows, and the sound is a sound that does not sacrifice highs or lows, its a full range, warm sound with a clear intelligable smooth creamy mids. (hotter than the Sennhieser and 58 at high volume but you have to almost kiss it)I'm sold on this Audix!

Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

We have been using 2 audix om2 in rehearsal with my rock band for a month now. We practice in a very small space and the sound tends to bounce alot. This mic has changed the way we hear our 2 singers. Their voices are clear, stand out and the feedback we got from our older mics is reduced to down to almost nothing. Great improvement for us.

Bought my first Audix OM2 as the stupid deal of the day. Should have been marked SMART Deal of the Day! Incredible mic for the price paid! just ordered my second one. This mic gives great crisp and clear vocals with higher pressure levels than my SM 58s ever could before feedback. A great all American mic made in the USA!!!

      Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

Been using an SM58 for years and even though that is a great mic I have to say that when switching to the OM2, I lost alot of the muddiness and I was able to pull out alot of the mids to acheive a very lifelike reproduction of my voice. I sing through a Bose L1 system and I now feel that my vocal sound is complete.

      A Dynamic with CLARITY!

      Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

I own 2 Audix OM2s and absolutely love this mic! It has a relatively flat response so it doesnt color your voice and you sound like you! I'm in a gigging rock band that regularly plays to 100-200 people and I use this mic for singing live and for recording in the studio! You can get awesome vocal takes with this mic for recording, its very condenser like in sound in my opinion. Also feedback wise its on par with an SM58, I've never had it feedback on me in a live situation. I gave it a 4.5 though in features because its a little to crispy and treble heavy for using live IF you occasionally yell or scream in your music otherwise its GREAT. I occasionally yell or scream so I'm now using a Sennheiser e835 live which isnt as top heavy and has more warmth. But I still use this mic live and to record. It is absolutely AWESOME in the studio for vocals!

      Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

I, like everyone else, own Shure mics. SM57, SM58, Beta58. I bought an OM2 a year ago & interestingly my Shure's are collecting dust. I'm either singing or playing guitar. Either way, the OM2 has won me over. I mike my guitar cab with it, yes OVER the sm57...or sing through it. It's just incredibly versatile & sounds phenomenal. In my opinion, one of the best buys on the market.

Audix OM2 is an Excellent Microphone

      Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

The OM2 is an excellent Microphone. Compared to the Shure SM58, I would go with the Audix OM2. They are at the exact same price point anyway. However, the OM2 is more clear, crisp and fuller sounding in my opinion. The OM2 just sounds better. Yes, it may be true that Shure microphones outsell all other competing brands, however, Shure microphones are way overrated. Try Audix. They are a smaller company and they pay more attention to detail. Don't buy something just because everyone else says it's the thing to buy. Try the Audix OM2 if you are in the market for a pro level quality microphone in the $99 price range.

      Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

This is an awesome microphone, let me just say that before this i used to use the sennheiser e835 which i though was good but this audix OM2 surpasses it. This microphone is extremely clear and durable. I cannot trash on the Shure SM58 because i have not used it yet. Think outside the box people and you wont regret going with this one.

        Excellent for pianist vocals

        By ChrisNY

        from Rochester NY

        Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

I purchased an OM2 and a Proline boom stand for our player grand. The speaker cabs under the piano double as a small PA and for Karaoke. I find the OM2 a fabulous addition for relatively fixed-position players (such as pianists). I am perfoming home studio work recording piano and vocals at the same time for mixdown later. This microphone is proving nothing less than stellar. The sound drops off dramatically if you move away from the target area, but that's to be expected.

I got this mic a couple months ago. I had heard bad things about audix from a friend, but soon realized that he must of been jealous because it blows his five dollar mic away. If you're looking for an amazing mic at a fair price, look no more. Don't form an opinion on what everybody says. Hear this one for yourself.

I'm not going to sound fake and say that I'm the best sound person that's ever lived, but I've been using the sm58, the senn e835, and I recently bought three of these mic's. This mic cuts through the mix like no other. It's extremely crisp and rarely feeds back. Give audix a chance and get this mic. (i don't want this review to 'bash' the e835 or the sm5 they are all great mic's....try them all out :] ) feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

The Audix OM2 has an amazing sound, it doesan't matter where you plug it in. it is the toughest microphone you can have if you're wanting to go crazy with it. I am in a hardcore band and I sing with it, I spin it, I throw it to the crowd and it is still in perfect shape. Very good buy!

        Comments about Audix OM2 Microphone:

This is a great mic that is well-suited to everyday vocal tasks. It delivers a consistent performance and doesn't need tweaking to produce a high quality live sound. It excels on vocals, and due to it's frequency response, is most usable in live situations. This mic is super rugged and is physically identical to to OM-3, 5, and 7 as far as I can tell. (electronically they are different, of course) Users of this mic need to understand that they need to hold the mic facing their mouth and keep it close. The off-axis rejection on this mic is very high. It is sensitive, but if you move off-axis, the level falls off dramatically. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend this as a good Karaoke mic or situations where people unfamiliar with the mic might be using it.

I dropped it once and the head broke of, warranty is good because i got a new one but over all, the 58 is better and stronger!

I gave it low on features b/c you should use a windscreen with it. But other tahn that I loved it!
