The Cranborne Audio Camden EC1 mic preamp and headphone amplifier brings the award-winning Camden preamp topology into a standalone desktop design, combining transparent mic, line and Hi-Z amplification with variable Mojo saturation and a reference-quality headphone amp. A 12-position gain control provides repeatable preamp settings, while dedicated operating modes accommodate microphones, instruments and line-level sources for tracking or mix-stage processing. When added character is needed, two Mojo modes—Thump and Cream—move the signal from clean and precise toward vintage-inspired harmonic saturation, with continuously variable intensity and true bypass when complete transparency is preferred.

Camden Preamp Technology Delivers Transparent Capture

The discrete preamp architecture is designed for extremely low noise and distortion along with consistent frequency and phase linearity across its gain range, allowing low-output microphones to be amplified without imposing unnecessary coloration on the source. Mic, line and Hi-Z modes extend that clean performance across vocals, acoustic instruments, electric guitars and previously recorded tracks. A dedicated phantom-power status LED changes from orange while voltage is charging or dissipating to red when 48V is fully established, providing useful visual feedback when enabling or disabling phantom power.

Mojo Adds Thump or Cream on Demand

Rather than permanently building transformer or tube coloration into the signal path, the EC1 lets engineers decide when that character belongs in the recording. Thump emphasizes low-frequency harmonic content for added weight and body, while Cream introduces a smoother, vintage-style saturation character suited to sources that need greater density or harmonic presence. The amount of Mojo is continuously adjustable from subtle enhancement to exaggerated coloration, and true bypass removes the circuit completely when a clean signal is required. Line-level material can also be routed through the preamp during mixing, extending these analog textures to DAW tracks, stems and stereo buses.

Headphone Monitoring, C.A.S.T. and DI Expand the Workflow

A reference-quality headphone amplifier and independent line mixer combine the preamp signal with playback from stereo AUX and mono external inputs, allowing musicians to monitor through a direct analog path without software-monitoring latency. The Hi-Z input works alongside a dedicated 1/4" Link output for DI, wet/dry recording and reamping workflows, while balanced XLR and impedance-balanced 1/4" outputs simplify connection to a variety of interfaces and recorders; a -10dB output pad accommodates equipment with lower input headroom. C.A.S.T. connectivity adds another option by linking the Cranborne Audio Camden EC1 with a compatible 500R8 or 500ADAT over shielded Cat 5e, Cat 6 or Cat 7 cable, carrying the preamp and external-input signals toward the control room while returning a monitor mix over the same connection.
