OVERVIEW

2-in, 2-out USB audio interface with two Scarlett mic preamps.

The second generation Scarlett range is packed full of upgrades. Scarlett generation 2 features super-low latency that will bring confidence to your performance, letting you record and monitor with software effects in real time. Its metal volume controls and a sleeker red metal chassis underscore its improved industrial design, built to go anywhere. Scarlett USB audio interfaces also now operate at sample rates all the way up to 192kHz, and the input channels have evolved too. The latest Scarlett mic preamp features a more even gain structure, so you can accurately set your levels, and the instrument input has also been completely redesigned so it can handle seriously hot pickups for recording electric guitar.

Compact yet versatile, the Scarlett 2i2 is a 2-in, 2-out USB audio interface that gives singer songwriters two natural-sounding Scarlett mic preamps and the same class-leading sound quality and digital conversion as the rest of the latest Scarlett range. Take it anywhere, connect by USB, plug your mics and guitars straight in, and simply start recording.

Focusrite interfaces are the perfect partner for Pro Tools, so Scarlett 2i2 comes with Pro Tools | First recording software, as well as Ableton Live Lite and a suite of software and samples so you can start recording straight away. As you’d expect, it works flawlessly with all major DAWs on Mac and PC.

Focusrite continues to add value to their products, long after the purchase is complete, by bringing monthly plug-in deals to customers through the Focusrite Plug-In Collective. Each month registered owners of Focusrite products will receive an exclusive code via email to unlock a free or discounted plug-in from the world’s leading plug-in companies. Comments about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

My only complaint is the wobbly USB input jack. it reminds me of an 80's Chrysler Minivan turn signal switch that's ready to fall off. Make that sturdy, and you will have a good product here and may even compare to the Roland Duo Capture. I returned mine.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

I replace my FocusRite iTrack Solo with this, to have an extra preamp. Nice to be able to double-mic a guitar track or vocal and play with the mix later, and this interface is perfect for that. The sound quality and ease of use are excellent (as they were for the iTrack). A further advantage of the 2i2 over the iTrack Solo is that you have separate volume controls on the unit for playback and input monitoring, which is useful for adjusting monitoring while recording. The 2nd generation unit has near-zero latency when the buffer size is set relatively low (say 256 samples/second or less); for high-quality playback during mixing, a larger buffer is often better, and the resulting slight delay is not bothersome. I've been using this for about a month and am very impressed.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

I bought this to be a part of my portable studio. I had the 6i6 previously and love Focusrite's preamp. I read good reviews and even tried one out. Well, I didn't try one out with my personal laptop. I have a brand new MacBook Pro. I went through the entire set up process and even downloaded the latency patch they have for it and it would not work. The audio would cut out frequently, if it worked at all. I contacted Focusrite and they never responded. I tried this with my wife's PC and my brother-in-law's older MacBook and it worked fine. I am assuming it has something to do with my set up, but I could not get it to work with my laptop and I received no service from Focusrite's customer service. Ended up going with a Steinberg UR22mkII and it worked flawlessly.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

Attempted to download the drivers and Norton virus protection tagged the software as a threat, no install. I am dead in the water. Contacted tech support and he wanted me to disable my virus protection to enable the download. In this day and age who in their right mind would download anything with virus protection off? I would give this thing, and their tech support, negative stars if I could.

Comments about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Generation) USB Audio Interface:

I've owned the 2i2 for a few years now. It works fine for my purposes, but I wish it had some different features.

I'm actually not a huge fan of the volume knobs for each channel. Personally I like to have ALL settings for a certain microphone for example built into an instrument in your music software. Having a physical knob just unnecessarily adds something that can easily be taken into account in the software.

I'm also not a fan of connectors on the front. I wish everything was in the back to make it look "cleaner". This isn't really a major issue but I wonder why so many audio interfaces are designed this way. I can understand a headphone jack being in the front obviously but connections for XLR cables should be in the back in my opinion.

Besides these few features I wish were changed, not much else to say. It works fine. I have noticed latency in some situations, but, to be fair, I'm not certain if the audio interface itself is causing this. It may just be my computer running slowly. Restarting the software usually fixes latency issues.

For the price and compactness, it is hard to beat this audio interface.
