With sounds taken directly from the world-standard PODxt, you get 16 amp models and more than 20 quality effects. And you'll have access to an online library of thousands of tones matched to the greatest guitarists, songs, bands, and gear of all time.

The Guitarist-Friendly Drummer

InstantDrummer gives you fresh and creatively varied drum tracks with fills using perfectly matched, full-kit studio drum recordings. Intensity, Variation, Ambience, and Gain knobs let you dial in your personal drummer.

Guitar-Optimized Recording

The unique Riff Recorder lets you set the tempo and even start recording from your guitar so you never have to put it down. It will even automatically create tracks as you play so you can record multiple takes or layer parts without a pause.

Mix Effects

The 7 mix effects per track are great for sweetening up the sound of most anything you might record with the GuitarPort hardware, even bass or a keyboard. And just like the virtual guitar rig, the included mixing effects are easy to operate. So you get great studio-quality sounds without the typical computer studio complication.

Collect and Combine Your Ideas

The Riff List holds the ideas you've recorded. Double-click a Riff in the list to open it for more recording, or to fine-tune your mix. Drag Riffs to the Song Bar to string them together. Then MIX a file to disk, and burn it with your CD software!

GuitarPort RiffTracker includes the award-winning GuitarPort hardware. I?ve been playing guitar, singing, and songwriting for over 20 years now (oh my, I?m getting old) and this GuitarPort RiffTracker is one of the coolest things to come down the road in a long time. I work as a computer network engineer for a day job so I feel right at home sitting in front of a computer, mix that with a guitar and all these effects, I?ve been doing computer-based recording since 1996 and have used just about every computer-based recording software on the market. I must say Sonoma Wire Works RiffWorks software is awe-inspiring. Keep It Simple is the design of RiffWorks. Their focus is to make a product that allows you to make music without being a recording engineer. The drummer feature is better than any drum machine or software I have ever used. They don?t skimp on the drummers they give you either. There are more you can buy, but you can do plenty with the 8 that come with it. Just find a guitar tone/effect you like, get a beat going, click record, and start jamming. If you get something that you like, you can keep the recording as a loop and even change up the drums after you?ve recorded it. (I do a lot of acoustic work and use the drums as a time keeper when I?m recording my riffs and then remove them afterwards.) Then you can string your loops together to make songs by dragging them into the song timeline window at the top of the screen. It?s really cool because it?s so easy to try different arrangements. You just drag the riffs in the order you want them in the song and then click play. If you want to try a different arrangement, just move the riff to a different spot in the song. It couldn?t be much easier. Customer ServiceThe Forums and people at Sonoma Wire Works are great. They are an extremely positive group of people dedicated to their product and are helpful in pretty much every aspect of music production. There are no dumb questions and you will get real answers to your question or comment, instead of flames. I haven't dealt with Line 6 Customer Service, so I can't comment on that.

I must say that I agree with the gentleman above who said that getting this stuff registered and getting the licenses straightened out was a pain. I'm still not sure how I did it. But somehow I got the Line 6 monkey to work. That being said, I was immediately impressed with the preset tones that come with Toneworks, all of which are completely tweakable, with plently of amp models, cab models, and effects to choose from. And you can purchase more models, effects, etc.. online. The thing that impressed me the most was the Tonelocker. Now that thing is BAD!! You can type in any band or any guitarist and get a list of some of their most famous songs broken down into separate parts such as "solo", "bridge", "acoustic chorus", etc... and just click on whichever tone you want.... so if you want Angus Young's rhythm tone, click on it, and it's yours. Yuu want some Satch or some David Gilmour sounds for your leads? Just type in the name and click on which one of their tones you want. I have never been able to nail Slash's tone until I got this program. I can make my Seymour Duncans moan and sing just like Slash now, and the tones don't sound digitized or cold. Line 6 did a great job with these preset tones. I can't wait to see how they sound through some decent speakers and not just through headphones. The recorder is easy to use, didn't take me long to figure it out. Good for just looping a rhythm track and soloing away for hours. The help file for it is short and to the point.Overall, these programs are exactly what I was looking for.Excellent job Line 6. YOu guys are straight-up tone magicians.

Great product...but, WOW, what a license nightmare

By MiddleAgedRocker

from Pennsylvania, USA

I recently purchased Line6 GuitarPort RiffTracker. Included in the box were the Guitarport and two software CDs. Everything installed on my computer okay and after a few minor adjustments I was off and playing (the built-in presets in GearBox are great!). Then I found that I could not save riffs in RiffTracker that I had created until the software was activated - that's when the confusion started. Included in the software is a product called the Line 6 Monkey that has to be used to update and register the software. Well, to make a long story shorter: after several hours of searching through (not-so-helpful) Help files I somehow managed to get the product registered - actually, I believe it was a pure accident. But I'm happy now. I really like the quality of the product and its capabilities, but the technical side of the software licenses seems to be overly complicated. Lastly, I'm not a computer novelist - I am an IT professional manager working in the world's 7th largest corporation - responsible for 15,000 PCs and 3,500 server systems. Recommendation to Line6: hire a good software specialist to clean up your license security process.

i am amazed. The sounds u can get will really help with using a sound of your own, on the other hand it has alot of artist based presets. i did not use mine online and it is compatible with XP OFFLINE!!! my only problem is that it is very hard to make each part of your song fit excactly into where its is supposed to be without a little empty transition. Right now i use it to record my entire band rehersals, using a micIt is very easy to convert your recordings into a .wav file for CD burning!!!!

I have had this product for almost 2 years now the first year was a battle with the line 6 company just trying to get it to activate. Its been frustration and anger trying to make this work. I keep telling myself try again but it never seems to work correctly . Just tonite I tryed to record a friend and I(someone I havent played with in over a year) And guess what it diddnt work so 3 Hours of playing was lost in the typical line 6n way. Thank You line 6 If you want to record guitar and vocals buy a tape recorder before this product.

Line 6 baby!

My friend who plays guitar(I play bass) decided to look into some relatively cheap but quality recording equipment to record our ideas. I'm telling you: this thing should cost twice as much. Pro-quality sound, easy to use tools and everything is right on the main menu. A little trouble starting it up, but the Riff Tracker is definitely worth it. I can't believe the amount of effects and things are loaded onto this puppy. Plus, anything that can be plugged into it can be recorded, and the built in drum-machine is pretty darn good. Great product.

It's worth it, I guess

By jtlvn

This is a great product for recording ideas for songs and looping chords to solo over for practice. I have been using it for about a year and am getting much better thanks to its power to loop measures and phrases effortlessly. However the drum machine is crap. I write a lot of stuff in odd time signatures or in 4/4(with that triplet 8th notes). No matter what the time sig. is the drums just play 4/4 beats. It sucks, really sucks. The guitar modeling and presets are above and beyond though. I've made countless setting using a suprisingly large amount of effects and different amps. This product is worth buying if you don't have a band to play with. But if you just need to record ideas just use a tape recorder or write them down like a true musician.

I don't currently have a band, but I do have a stockpile of riffs, full songs, lyrics, and little bits and pieces of songs just begging for a real song to call "home." The RiffTracker is beyond perfect for this. I can lay down the guitar, bass, and vocal tracks, and the "instant drummer" will give me some beats to keep time. The beats are rather generic, but they get the job done if you don't have an actual drummer.(You can also download more from Line 6's website.) You can also burn a CD to save your work, or, like I do, to hand out to people interested in joining your band. I also like that I don't have to drag my whole pedal setup around to record something, as it gives you amp/cab modeling and simulated stompboxes, which are just as good as the Digitech RP200 that I often use during practices and when I jam with friends. Bottom line, it's well worth the money spent.

This is a great tool for songwriting. Being able to loop one idea while trying out another is invaluable. I'm more productive using this software than I have been with anything else I've ever used.

I ordered the Guitar Port Riff Tracker several months ago, and quite frankly, I couldn't be more pleased. For the price, the Riff Tracker offers a wide selection of various tones and effects, that can be easily tweaked and mixed to the musician's preferences. An easy-to-follow tutorial instructs the musician on how to set the tempo and time signature, lay down a riff, adjust the tone and amp models and piece together a complete song that can be transferred to CD. The makers of Riff Tracker did a pretty good job of re-creating some signature tones from some of the greatest guitarists (Van Halen, Hendrix, Page, S.R.V., Hammett). It definitely takes some practice, but if you're new to recording and looking for a good way to transfer all those creative ideas to CD format, look no further than the Guitar Port Riff Tracker. (It can also be great fun to just plug in and fool around with the various tones and amp models, especially the signature tones, without actually recording! You never know what'll come out when you sit down and putter with Riff Tracker!)

I got this last year around cristmas time and I wasnt too happy about it. The amp models and stuff were cool but the hardware kept getting disconnected when there was no clear reason for it. Rifftracker is cool I guess, but if you do it riff by riff there is a little tiny bit of skip because the two tracks are not totally syncronized. I am going to get the boss micro br which i have heard wonders about.

This was probably the best $190 I've spent in a while. The only downside is that you need to download the installer v3.70 from the line6 website if you're using Windows Vista. Other than that, the guitar port and riffworks is great.

No longer compatible with Windows XP!

This is undoubtedly a great package, but not if you're using XP. When I purchased the package, I installed GuitarPort version 2.5. It worked great, just as advertised. A few weeks later I decided to buy some add-on effects models from Line 6's website. In order to add the models to GuitarPort, it's necessary to use the Line 6 Monkey software, their online updater. During this process, I noticed there was an update available for GuitarPort, so I downloaded and installed it. The new drivers are not compatible with XP, a warning box even told me so right before I installed it, where the Line 6 instructions advised me to click "Continue anyway". Now whenever I start GuitarPort, RiffTracker, or GearBox (which is supposed to replace GuitarPort), my machine spontaneously reboots.Again this is a great package when you can get it to work, all I can hope for is that they one day release some drivers that are actually compatible with XP.

The effects alone you get from the Guitar Port are worth 5 times you pay for it. The ability to download tones is incredible and so is the quality of the effects. I've had mine for about 5 months and still having as much fun with it as the day I took it out of the box.

The ultimate for home recording

By tacotele

GuitarPort and RiffTracker give you everything you need to record guitar-based music at home. The basic GuitarPort with stock amp models gives enough variety that you don't feel constrained by having just a few guitar sounds to use. And of course, GuitarPort uses the same amp and cab models as the PodXT.RiffTracker is simply the easiest to use riff-based recording software out there. Record your song riff by riff (or all at once), and select from your favorite rex2 drum loops, or use the included "Instant Drummer", which takes the concept of the drum machine to the next level. I've been using GuitarPort and RiffTracker for about 10 months, and I've never felt more creative.

Guitar Port RiffTracker

My girlfriend got me this for my graduation and I must say that it's the best gift anyone has ever given me. It's easy to use, has great effects, and overall it just does anything I want it to. I highly recommend this for people that like to just sit at their computer and make music. I use it for guitar, bass, and vocals. No complaints...nope.

Great Recording Tool!

I will be short and to the point in saying that this product is amazing. It's perfect for any songwriter whether experienced or not. I'm a guitarist for 17 years but a novice when it comes to computer recording. Line 6 made it very simple to use with outstanding results. I don't usually give 10's in all areas but this product deserves it. I gave features only a 9 because I expected more drum styles included(if you want more , you have to buy from their website). I also like the fact that Line 6 caters to the PC world as opposed to the Mac(which everybody makes a big deal about). I highly recommend this product.

Amazing little product

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I've played guitar for over 20 years. I just purchased this amazing little piece of equipment and I am simply amazed. You plug your guitar into the GuitarPort via standard 1/4" instrument cable. Then, after installing the software on your PC, plug the GuitarPort into the PC using a standard USB cord (supplied). That's it. The amp and effect models are dead on accurate and sound amazing. Plug in a set of headphones (1/8" female output in the GuitarPort) and do your thing. Sounds great! If you have multi-track recording software, you can record directly into it using this as well. You can search a massive tone library for specific songs or guitarists and in 5 seconds, you're good to go. $200 is a little pricey, but IMHO, it's totally worth every cent. If mine were to break, I would buy one the next day. Oh! Which brings a good point... It is high impact plastic and some metal. It will probably survive a drop or two, but don't expect to abuse it. But, being tethered to a computer, I don't know how much abuse it would see anyway. As for those who complained about activating or registering the software... I had no troubles. I found you don't even have to register it if you don't want and it works just fine.

Line 6 shouldn't have called this guitarport riff tracker, only because it works with any instrument you can think of. Vocals, keyboard, bass. You can even export your saved songs into other programs. You can used the effects it comes with or your own pedals if you want. The instant drummer sounds 100% real, your friends will think you found a real person to jam with. And making the tracks is simple for those who aren't good at computer recording.

Good For Basics

By Nexus Engineering

from Mount Holly, NJ

I recently bought this at Guitar Center and for the first month I was pleased with the sounds. I still am kinda happy with the sounds of bass and guitar considering the price. The drummer is nice, but you really can't play anything that would be off beat or you cant ask it to hit the kick at a certain time (which really stinks). Other than the flaw with the drummer, I would recommind this to anyone "new" to recording.
